Colts Extend QB Daniel Jones, Betting on His Return

0:00On March 12, the Indianapolis Colts have signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a contract extension. The 28-year-old joined the team as a free agent back in March of 2025 and delivered a breakout season over 13 starts. He threw for more than 3,000 yards with 19 touchdowns and just 8 picks, posting a completion rate near 68% and A, passing rating over 100. Jones set personal best in several key stats, including yards per attempt and overall efficiency. His numbers ranked him among the top quarterbacks league-wide and he even added five rushing scores. Early in the season, he fueled one of the NFL's best offenses, helping the Colts score on nearly 60% of their drives. That hot start saw Indianapolis go eight wins and two losses through 10 games. But injuries derailed the momentum, starting with a fractured left leg after their week 11 buy. He battled through limited mobility and a couple of losses before suffering a torn Achilles early in week 14 against Jacksonville, ending his year.

Jones says he expects full clearance by training camp in July and both general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen confirmed last month that he's right on schedule. Team owner Carly Urse Gordon is optimistic about recapturing that early magic next season, crediting Jones for his leadership on and off the field. With this extension locked in, the Colts are betting big on his return to form.
