Colts Back Leonard as Richardson's Backup

On March 30, the Indianapolis Colts seem cool with Riley Leonard, stepping up as their

number two quarterback if Anthony Richardson gets traded this.

Offseason.

Richardson, the fourth overall pick from 2023, asked for a trade back at the Scouting

Combine since there's no path to starting with.

The team locked into their current starter.

No deal has popped up yet, even as other teams beef up their quarterback rooms, like Minnesota

grabbing Carson Wentz or Philly trading for Andy.

Dalton.

The Colts might release Richardson if nothing happens, but that hits them with $5 million

in dead calf space.

Colts GM Chris Ballard praised Leonard for handling his start against Houston without

getting overwhelmed, despite some turnovers.

He called Richardson super talented and a good guy, just plagued by bad luck with injuries

derailing his first two seasons.

Richardson's rookie year ended early, with shoulder surgery after four starts, and more

issues last year, including a freak eye injury from A.

Resistance band that fractured his orbital bone and caused vision problems, though he's

cleared now.

Team owner Carly Urse Gordon backs Richardson's potential for an NFL career, but they're

eyeing Leonard as the back of Fid if he bounces.
