Cold Case Justice: 32-Year Wait for Traynor Conviction

He was convicted this week of indecent assault and attempted rape at Menchial Street Crown Court. Police linked him to the crime through DNA taken during an August 2023 stop for allegedly being drunk in charge of a vehicle. That sample matched evidence from the victim's clothing, alerting the Greater Manchester Police Cold Case Unit. The victim, Annie Davenport, was a church-going widow who had just visited friends after Sunday service. She fought back during the assault, but sadly passed away in 2004 from unrelated health issues. Her detailed statement from that night proved crucial in the trial. Trainer, now 56 and living in Poitin, Cheshire, claimed the encounter was consensual in his defense. The jury unanimously rejected that and found him guilty after hearing the evidence.
