Coach Thad Matta Retires with 502 Wins

0:00On March 16, Butler basketball head coach Thad Mata just hit a big milestone with his 500th win and now he's calling it a career. After reflecting on the season, he announced his retirement from coaching. Mata ends his time on the sidelines with an impressive overall record of 502 wins in 223 losses. He first came to Butler years ago and returned four years back because of his deep ties to the school. That family connection made it the perfect place to wrap things up. Mata plans to stick around the university and support the program however he can. Throughout his career at Butler, Xavier in Ohio State, he grabbed eight conference regular season titles. He took teams to the NCAA tournament 13 times, reached the final four twice, and even made it to a national championship game once. At Butler specifically, his teams went 87 and 77, hit the NCAA tournament in 2001, set a school record with 24 wins and won a conference championship.
