You can fire on the score of the game. You can fire on the spread.

00So like when I'm watching sports, what I'll do now is I'll fire like a slip or two slips. And then I'll also choose like who I think's just going to win the game. Price picks have also available in so many different states, California, Texas. Also available now in New York state again, so if you're in New York state, download the price picks app and also Tennessee now, you can choose teams as well. We have an absolute legend and I mean legend in the building today. Chuck the Iceman, Lidell. Great to have you both. We've been we've been wanting to have you on for a while. I remember watching you. I think I was in like probably eighth grade and like the spike TV days when I remember those fights. That's got to be the best error of the UFC. Would you agree? I'm a little biased. Yeah. It was a good time. It was fun. We had a great time. You think that was like the best time in a division ever like the light heavyweight division at that time? Well, it was the big at that time was one of the was the premier division I guess, but yeah, there's a lot of great fights back then. So, you know, it was a lot bigger like it was, you know, it was a UFC. There's five or six a year, not, you know, 45. You know, it got beat.

01It's a little more. I'm glad there's a lot more guys out there. A lot more guys fighting a lot more fights. Yeah. I just remember how deep it was. It was like you, Tito, Rampage, like, was that Machita show gun? Yeah. Yeah, everybody. Yeah. Through shot, Evans. Yeah. A lot of good guys. When you were fighting back then, did you kind of see the UFC getting as big as like a sport as it was or how was it back then? Like a lot of times, the way I put it is I, you know, I always thought I'd get there because it's the greatest sport in the world, but, um, but I thought it'd take a lot longer and I think, you know, that us getting on, it was just so hard to break into getting on free TV, getting people to understand even that what kind of fan base we had even at that time. And then, but the, you know, the reality show top just exploded. I mean, it made, you know, it was it, it was, I mean, it was great. It was, it was there. It was like, I think Dennis said it was this Trojan horse to get a free fight on TV and

05get people to see, you know, see the sport. I got to see, you know, meet guys that are fighting to see them train and see them doing stuff. It was a, it exploded. I mean, I can tell you, wait for me. It went from me being able to walk through them all and go, okay, that guy probably knows who I am and that guy with the tap out shirt, honey knows me and that guy maybe, uh, six year old lady's coming. Hey, good fight there tonight. Wow. And it was over and almost overnight out from the ultimate fighter, from the ultimate fighter. Yeah. The ultimate fighter to like, because we had the ultimate fighter, um, had, you know, that and then I won the title of the week after, um, and it was just, it was insane. How much of the reality TV did you like, because I know you did a cameo and entourage too. Oh, you got caught. Yeah. That's one of my favorite episodes.

06Yeah. That was awesome. I was my favorite show about that. Like, I was probably the last show I actually went, went out of my way, tried to see each episode right when they were in Eric, you know, so how did that even come together? I don't know. I asked everybody I knew, like, hey, give me, I just wanted to do like a cameo on, I just want to walk in and say, I had to venture something with my favorite show and then someone got me on there. And then I go, you know, hey, we got this, they, I think they changed the, the punk thing for me. Yeah. So the, oh, we got shot cool. Let's do this. Yeah. So it was pretty cool. Yeah. That's great. That's one of the best episodes ever. That was awesome. What was it like coaching on the ultimate fighter? It taught me in the beginning. It taught, it taught me a lot of things for as a coach, um, because like, I'm going to work with forest. I'm trying to show them something and it's like, man, this works for me every time and he can't seem to get it with, and he's pretty good. Like, he should understand what am I not doing, what am I not showing them? And it's just to add, there's a little detail in the, in the middle of it, I do naturally

09to the load something that made it work, like the move works. I'm like, oh, so I learned a lot more about showing details because I, and teach, teaching details. It's, it's different. I mean, no, you know, I mean, for my surface, I coach and people, it's like, you're like, no, don't like this. Like, they're like, well, I don't know what you're doing different, you know? So, but like, I have a lot of friends that, you know, you see some guys that are really good at this key of team, right? Um, Jake, you know, great key of team, you know, I'm finishing guys and, you know, I'm watching them go, okay, he's teaching it the same way everybody else teaches it. What's he doing different? You know, he's got, oh, okay, he's adjusting that, okay, okay, now I see what he's doing. I think that, I think I learned, learned from coach in there, um, working with guys that honestly just were good at what they do and they really, you know, and they're not getting what I'm teaching. I must be doing something. What was your biggest, uh, payday fight?

10Was it rampage? I'd have to look back. I don't know. What do you think was your most iconic fight, um, iconic, that's in terms of like, opponent, like, who is like, was it Tito? Well, Tito was fun, but I always knew from training. Yeah. I trained with him. I knew I was going to, I knew I was, you're going to go with that. Yeah. Um, no, I always, if you, if I had to pick one, I mean, it'd be the fight with Randy, the second fight, because I had to avenge to my loss. I finally got the title I was after and it was right after the show, you know, the first time I, my, I broke, I had a, like, uh, minimum, like minimum paper even buys to get actually hit my, my bonus, the first time I rate my bonus, so I was pretty excited about that too. What do you like watching? And then you'll see now fighters. I like watching a lot of the guys, I mean, you go to a lot of fights in person too. Is anyone like, specifically like maybe top three for you? I don't know. I mean, I like like prayer, prayer, yeah, I mean, we changed, we changed, we changed the Glover and members of my guy, so until Glover retired, Glover was all my favorites,

11just because we're friends, um, you know, um, I don't know, I like watching a lot of fighters. I mean, the guys, a lot of guys trying to finish today, they're like, yeah, I think for a little while, guys are trying to just wrestle or just try to edge out a win, you know, like making sure to do a just a point fight and just trying to do enough to win. And you know, I like it, I'm like, I don't care how you try to finish, I don't care if you're ground a pound submission guy, uh, striker, as long as trying to finish, I like to watch it. So you don't not like guys that will just like wrestle and just try to like kind of win by points. I know a lot of people complain about that sometimes it could be fun to watch if it's a technical. If you're actually like, look, here's the thing, I'm, I'm a wrestler and I'm a judo guy. So I like, I like to get appreciate technical. If you're not just riding the guy out, if it does not ground and hold, you lay it or when they just caught lay and pray, hmm, like if it does, I'm just taking the guy down and hold them there.

11It's like, what do you do? Yeah. Like, I don't want to watch this. But, you know, I put it on if the guys get, get held down from like, you can, you can play about a guy, hold the guy down for five rounds. Hey, learn how to get off your back, you know, if you can't get off your back, that's your problem. But I mean, the problem I have with some of these fights is you see guys out there, they're like, you're not even trying to get off your back. Yeah. You don't know how to get off your back. You're just holding them. He's laying on top of you. You're losing the fight. Yeah. Get up. And it's different like if I see a guy, if you're trying to get up, the guy is countering, that's one side. Right. That's great. I like that, actually. That's cool. Watch them out. Oh, okay. But if you're just slaying down there and holding your car, cold guard, like, hey, that by the way, you're not going to submit this guy. He's got great. He's great on top. You're not going to submit him. Get up. Do you think there's people like that try to prepare for that and they find whatever, the best sparring partner then they fight to be or Islam and they're just not, there's

12nothing to do to prepare for that. You know, I wouldn't know because I see what I'm watching them watching. I do the things he's doing down on the bottom. Yeah. He obviously does not know how to get off his back. Yeah. Or he's not doing anything that I would consider attempting to get off his back. It's not not so much that he's being countered as much as he's just, and I'm not saying that someone like that would be able to win the counter. Yeah. That's okay, too. Yeah. But if you're not, if I'm watching him, if you're not, it's frustrating because they're not even trying. You get rid, if you get rid out for five rounds and you're not, and you're not trying to get off your back to me, you know, I can't forget what's going on, what's going on, what's going on. Watching him sit there and he's just holding him down and not letting him damage him. Oh my goodness. Humza, humza, humza. Do you think you see that a decent amount of that one now? What's up recently? Yeah. He couldn't do shit though. He couldn't do anything though. Yeah. I mean, when you're that dominant as wrestler, I mean, humza's wrestled his whole life.

14I mean, yeah. But it's, it has to do with knowing how to get, like, if you don't know how to get, if you don't, to me, it looks like they don't know how to get off their back. And there's just not even trying. It's okay with me that the guy stops you. We're going to get that. Okay. Guys, he's good. Great. But I don't want to watch you if you're just going to sit down there and lay there, just trying to keep him from damaging you. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you're just trying to hold on to the. Do you got to blame the guys on the bottom just as much? 100%. That's a good point. Yeah. If you got, they, they need to work. Get up and get up and, or try to, try to get up and, you know, but that was one of the things. For me, I was always like, I didn't want to stuff for, I, I like, work from a half guard down there and do a lot of different things from down there. But, you know, you got to start right away. You got to, you get those guys get set on top of you. It's, it's a bitch. You get to get a good, strong, a result on top of you, they get, they get set on top of you. It's okay.

14Now it's a bitch. So you got to, you got to start, as soon as you get the ground and get broke, you know, you're going to be working to get out. Yeah. All right, guys, anytime I'm doing anything crypto related, whenever I want to buy or sell, I'm using the moon pay app. What I love about the moon pay app is it's so easy to use. And they also accept every single type of payment provider you could think of. They have PayPal. You can use your credit card, literally everything. What's your relationship with Dana like these days? Great. I look good. I feel like you guys always were pretty good. We had always had a good night. Well, he was my coach. I mean, I've been a coach for a manager before they bought the O.C. I did not know that. Yeah. He was my manager. He had to quit as my manager when they bought the O.C. I did not know that. That's fucking cool. So how did that come up? How did you guys first meet? He was actually managing Tito and Wayne Harryman's friend of both of us and he actually suggested, hey, man, you see this guy training with Tito and I said, I was beating up Tito. I was beating him up. I used to beat him up to everything. We trained together. I mean, they beat him up that probably too, right? Well, that came later. Okay. At this time, he was a manager and I were probably still there, still still good, right? I think their squabbles started later.

20But yeah, he was like, the guy who watched the sky, if you think this guy's good, this guy's beating him up. So he started managing me and it was, you know, that's why they decided to, I think that's how Dana's decided to buy the O.C. with the run zone. They were talking about doing a boxing promotion at that time. And then they decided, hey, well, why don't we take this over and do it, right? Wow. So with Dana, like, tell you stuff like that back then, like, oh, we're trying to buy this UFC thing. Yeah, when we talked about it, they were talking about that I talked about, you know, Dana was always going for that other stuff, like getting bigger stuff than, like, you know, it was normal. Like, back belt magazines, something like a karate magazine, something like that. But he was always trying to get some fitness magazines and do that, get more stuff. So what'd you notice about him and like, his like work ethicers and intelligence when you back then? Like I said, he was always, he's always pushing them up, trying to get more promotion,

20do something better, get something better. For you know, so it was, you know, something bigger, he's trying to, he was trying to make it bigger, so good, so good, so good. Plus, buy online and pick up at your favorite rack store for free. Great brands, great prices. That's why you rack. And he did a great job on it, him and Lorenzo and Frank, obviously, but what was your personal favorite moment in your UFC career? Yeah, well, I mean, I, people outside, I don't say to put a gun in my head, I would do that, that second fight with Randy, so when I knocked him out, because after winning the show, both my guys won one on the show with the whole thing and then, you know, and

27everything he was exploding, and I went out and won my fight by knockout and stuff. Yeah. So they don't really do the ultimate fighter as much anymore, right? The last one was what, McGregor and Chandler, I don't know, I don't keep up with it that much, but they should have like you back on as a coach or like to, that would be cool, right? What would you do it? It's fun. Yeah, I do. I think they like to have it set up where they can have right afterwards, too, that makes it so good, because that's for a long time, that promotes a big fight, you know. Who's rolling you out? You don't think Mike Tyson got back in there, you don't think you could get back in there? 56. My wife had killed me, but yeah, no, I, what do you think is the greatest fighter of all time? Damn. All time? My favorite was Anderson so well, it's probably, I mean, he was fun to watch, right? I mean, be, be him. I'm like, BJ and Matt Hughes, good for him. I know friends of mine, guys, love watching, that's fine.

28Is there a dream fight for yourself, like if there's anyone that you wish you would have fought in your day? I mean, it's silly, I guess. I think it's silly to talk about things that can't happen or, like, like, by promise, this person's prime or whatever. I think I matched up well with John Jones. I always thought I would, he's, I've got longer reach than people think, because at least my reach is 76, and I have about, about 79, it's 78, I'd be about 80, inch reach. But John, John did that on purpose, my trainer's, he's a little, he doesn't like, he's like, he's always, I don't know weird things with stuff like that, like, he didn't want, people know when I was that long. Yeah. I've trained for me being a long, that's pretty smart, because if you say I have an 80 inch reach for you, oh, you've got to be careful, he's going to be really long, you know, they listed me at 76. So that, you know, it's when you, it's you figure, by the time you figure out that I'm a little longer than you thought I was, it's a long time to do like, yeah, it's a little

31too late for that. Yeah. Okay. So based on all your fight, what's the most important discipline would you say to be good at in the, in MMA? It's important. I, you know, I think you have to be balanced on this, you have to be able to do everything. I always say the coach, what I preferred, and if I had to pick something, I'll take an all American wrestler. I know you're tough, I know you can help weight, make weight, I don't have to worry about that, and, and wrestling is a skill that it's hard, it's, it's hard to teach that you're not going to get that, the mad hours that they got to get to that good at wrestling, and I can teach everything. Yeah. You think that's the best base of the match? I mean, it's, it's the, the hardest one, the hardest one to get, I don't know, it's, it's, if you, if you're in wrestling, you're again, you're younger, you know, you can still be good, you can still fighting wrestling is different. So it's, you can still be, be great at it, but you're not never going to quite be the

32same. You know, it's, it's hard to explain, but you don't have that mad hours of, of, of, so, but if I, if you give me one, and, and I know they're mentally tough, you know, I don't know if they can, if you've, if you've, been that far in wrestling, you're mentally tough too. So what's it? What's it like being in like, in the mind of like, when you were fighting like, were there every time, is when you'd go into the ring, were you always like super confident going into a fight like every time, like, or was there every time you're like, fuck, like, no, every time, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm so bad at the point, where I get, when I lost, I'll be like, You still thought you would start over and I know I can fix that. I know I know I know I'm in wrong. Let me give you another shot. You know, I can beat this guy. I know I always had me right right after the fight. I knocked out. Still, wait, wait up. I know that messed up. I can fix that. So I was always starting to beat people. I think as a fighter, you should. You know, you should always say, yeah, I'm going to be that good.

34Well, do you think the biggest difference between your air and the UFC and now? There are a lot of differences. I mean, I don't know. I think the biggest difference is now you when we came out, I came in this sport, right? I used to see 17 was our first first one. 17. That's fucking insane. And I first ever made a mix fight was in 97. So then I fought in the U.S. in 98. But the biggest thing back then is we were trying to figure out how to train like how to mix it. Everybody, everybody was coming from one discipline and learning the other too. Like for me, I, one advantage is I had the beginning is I came from wrestling and striking. I came from wrestling and kickboxing, karate, background. And so I had two and I had to learn the third. You know, so we're learning how to just train. How do you spar? How do you? You guys are inventing the sport almost. Right. And yeah, so we're not. And these are trained guys are getting better. You know, I mean, if you go look at leg locks back then.

37You know, most of the leg ones were so basic. You know, some of these things got away with it. You couldn't get away with those nowadays. You don't. You know, you know, well, no, but now the guys are just so much better at leg locks. They're different. You know, it's a different, different breed. But like now, now, everybody, you start training and you go to, you go, you know, you decided it came once a train at five. You take them out to a gym that does everything. Yeah. You know, they have, they know how to go, they know how to mix it together, how to train, how to just keeps evolving. I mean, the sport when we were doing it, like if you stop evolving, you got, yeah, you know, can start out, start out with guys, you know, wrestling versus boxing versus Getsu versus whatever. Right. But then it became, and I think they started with it trying to prove Getsu was the best, you know, and then, and then what they found out was a mix of all of them's the best. Yeah. You know, putting it in, you know, putting it together, and that's what's gonna. Did you feel like then there was more pressure on you? Because there's like now,

38there's so many stars in the sport. And back then, there was only a few of you guys. I need to pressure that way. I mean, I think in the off season, there was like, it was like, there's a lot of, a lot more push to do the media stuff was like, there's only a few people, people knew it's a lot okay, we want you. Yeah. You need to go do that. I guess that's a good thing at the same time. At the same time, it was a great thing for me. And we were just, I mean, people are, oh man, a lot of stuff I get now after the fact is because of all the PR we did trying to promote the sport. I was, well, maybe they're a good job with the brand, but no, I just was trying to promote a sport. Yeah. We were just trying to grow a sport and they're not in the for a long time. We just tried to go into places and try and explain how to do interviews. I think, um, funny for when I first thought the first Chify with Tito is like, you know, Dana came to me and you gotta get your interviews got to get better. Oh really? Radio interviews. You gotta do, you know, but it was, it was hard back then. You go in there and people ask you the same, like I,

41I guess the same dumb questions that really are, they ask you asked and answer questions. Like they have their, their idea, whatever the answer should be and they kind of walk it through the question. They're like, um, do I tell you you're an idiot and you're wrong? I just go, yeah, yeah, great. That didn't do anything. And actually my, um, the manager at the time is, is sister helped me because she's, I'm not, they're like, get better at interviews. I, I went and I got an interview coach basically. She came and became even, she asked me, she asked me write down 10 questions, all the 10 questions or what, uh, you know, most common questions. She looked down like, they're asking me like to, all these questions are two questions in here. That's it. So, and look, and they, these people obviously haven't done anything. A lot of times you come to a radio interview that's having like read a one sheet. They don't know what anime is. They're asking me like, is it like pro wrestling? Like, no, yeah. You know, but and what the best bit of advice I got from there was she said,

45well, once you need, you need to speak up because I, I tend to mumble, but, um, but then she said, you need, um, go out there. These are, these questions are dumb. Just, just, whatever question they ask you. The first question, answer yes or no. Whatever it is, and talk for about a minute and a half to two minutes. Just talk about whatever you want to get out there. Yeah. And to speak. Yeah. And then, and what it does, and what it did is, and for radio interviews, because they're short, right? You know, the talk, now you may have got to look at it. He hasn't even looked at his one sheet. He barely knows your name. Yeah. And he's like, and they're like, and you make him, you give him something that look good, and you look good to him too. We make him look good. Right. Because anybody, any good DJs, if you give him some information, they'll make it fun. And they'll make it cool out of their audience once a year. They'll, they'll, they'll take care of the other part of it. Yeah. You just have to give them some, some information that they can use because I was just picking out of whatever you said. All right. If you guys want to start a new

Let's get back on the podcast. Social media, you know, that's like a skill set where you can just be a fan favorite and not even be the best fighter. You can build a whole career just off your social media. Right. Well, there's a lot more ways to promote you and get guys out of their talking, you know. But back then, we were doing them like radio. It was like radio. And it wasn't most of my like, I like going to the radio like station. Like they asked me if I wanted to call it or go, I'd rather go. Because for me, back then, you meet the DJ you're going to talk with. And you have a conversation. A lot of times, if nothing else, if I have a conversation with them before, we go on because it's a real quick hit, right? Yeah. If you have a conversation with before, it makes it so much easier for them when they get on air. For sure. Because then now that they, you're not just kind of going up, uh, like, you know, no, yeah. You know, don't, if you have a little wrap before you go out on the radio, it was

56better. Right. Dana always likes to post like injuries after fights, you know, like big cuts. What was the worst injury you sustained or? I think after that, uh, last fight, you know, see I got like, let's put up my lip and I look pretty bad. Yeah. What, what do you think about weight cutting in the UFC? You think guys or fighters should fight closer to their weight? That's one thing I'll never. By the way, it's a lot of weight. I mean, a lot of it's a balance. It's a balance. It's a fighter's choice. It's eight. I don't, I mean, if guys want to cut that much weight, great. If you don't, if you're, I like, like, I was worried. I think he's better at two or five than 185. I think it's a better fighter up there. I think that he's, I mean, he's cutting so much weight to 85. I don't even know how he made it. How do they do that? Yeah, I'm never understanding that. I didn't like cutting that much weight. I did the one at one time, screwed up long story, but I screwed up that they moved the fight date and so, so it changed things. So I want to have to cut 19 to half pounds of one day. How do the day wait? I'd wait, I'd wait, I'd win,

04and then fight. What do you do the day you have to cut 20 pounds? Yeah, we cut 19 pounds. Plastics in the sauna, sauna and plastics in the sweat. It's all water. And you obviously, I know, you can't even take a sip of water. And you're like, in the sauna and you're like, I put you're not drinking the sip of water now. But that is so far. I could not imagine that. And I don't know how you guys had to also get to do that. And then you also have to do media all week long while you're like, that is so far. But it's a choice. I walked around at like 225 to 230, right? I fought 205. But I would die it down during my, I can't see, by the time, fight by fight week, I usually woke up about 213 to 214. You know, I went to bed about, I stopped eating and drinking about eight o'clock at night. Uh, when I go to bed, then I get up in the morning. I, I, I, by the way, I hate having to make way to eight o'clock in the morning, like to do now, or whatever time to make it now. Yeah. We used to have to make it until like three or four. So I,

09I, because I, I don't know, I probably would have to get, start cutting, have to wake up extra early and start cutting. Because I slept in one of my train. I was, I slept until about nine, nine or 10 on flight. It's about where I'm at. That's what I was today. Yeah. That's what, I mean, I, I slept in one night, one of five, because I, I thought, I was told me, I fought it, um, nine o'clock at night. So if I'm going to bed at 10 o'clock, nine o'clock, 10 o'clock, my body's shutting down. Yeah. Mm-hmm. You know, so I, I used you with the bed, or a whole fight camp, about one or two. That's smart. Yeah. So I get that's more adjusted. But yeah. So that was like the the best toughest way cut. That was tough as we cut. Yeah. And that was, but you still made it. I made it. I never, I've never missed one. Was there ever like, is that a close call at the end? Funniest, funniest one though, the one I, for after the ultimate fighter. So I found out we, you know, I didn't know we had a pound of allowance until the ultimate fighter. I didn't know you, you only have to make a one oh six. Right. You don't have to make one oh five scratch. So I'm like,

10okay, perfect. I had a pound of allowance. So they thought I was having a hard time making the wait because I missed wait the first one I went up to fight. I went over and ran into the first time I stepped on a scale. Mm-hmm. Because I was, I thought we got a pound of allowance. Well, you don't get a pound of allowance for title fights. You don't. You don't. So I was like, oh, damn it. So I just ran back in. The song took a shit and came back. Well, we didn't, we jumped to the song room for a few minutes and came back. Well, you, you, yeah. But yeah, I, I mean, but I used to, I mean, I used to cut eight pounds of water pretty easy because I like, I like to die it down, but I walked around. I mean, two weeks out, I probably about two 18. Yeah. And I probably walk in the, I probably walked in the cage about 16 to 16 to 15 to 16. But, you know, sometimes I like to cut more. Some people like to feel bigger and they cut more, but I at two five known was not something. I was, I was, I mean, I've been two, I've been at the

11two five since I was 19 years old. You know, so yeah, you're comfortable right now. That way I'd stay there. You know, so my last five, it was almost 40. So would you celebrate a lot after big wins? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, good. So I was actually the first guy to announce my after part of me after winning a UFC. You were the first after party ever first first. First got announced. You really paid for that. Now it's just after part of the thing. And it was funny because they didn't tell me the story like six more like you said, no, we were starting to get, they went, when they got mad at me for you and now it's you because I did it at the, it was at the real. My after part, and we, and we were fighting it and at Manley Bay. And after my fight, he's one of the meetings later, like a couple of months later, they're like, hey, we don't want your fighters like sending people off out of the hotel after that. Who said that? The people from Manley Bay. Manley Bay. Oh, we don't want your fighter sending. So after that, all my after parties had to be wherever the video was.

12Because you, that was the first one announced. Was it pretty fucking packed that night? It was fun. Yeah. What fight was that? I don't remember. Yeah, I just remember because the fight with the after parties at the real. That's what I got. I always wonder now because like winter lose these guys still host after like it's got to be tough to go to the club after a big loss. And yeah, but your friends are still there. You're still totally coming. So I guess you was a friend of your own, you got paid, you got paid, you know, you know, it is what it is. Yeah. I mean, what was your craziest after fight celebration? I don't know. Actually, they're all pretty good. We had a good time back then. We had a good time. Yeah. Pretty hard not to have a good time after winning Vegas, right? Yeah. A lot of options. A lot of options. Old school was the one. You would always fight in Vegas, pretty much right? Yeah. A fun Vegas a lot. Yeah. Was that the pool party at a day party? Yeah, the day party. That hard rock. Is hard rock still exists there? No. So this was where I wouldn't even know now.

15Don't tell. I wonder what the club was called a Rio because I remember Rio when I was kid it used to be the spot. Yeah. What it was up top. Yeah. It was pretty cool. That in the palms were the two places. Yeah, palms I know. One, two, yeah. Did you ever fight in New York or New York? New York. New York wasn't leaving. I just don't find that. I don't think. Can you believe that at the point? That's wild. So where else would it ever be hosted if it wasn't Vegas? Well, I fought in Canada twice. Where'd you fight? Toronto or Montreal? A Montreal and Vancouver. Oh, nice. I fought in Brazil. Not in the U.S. though. It's their fight. Most of Vegas. Yeah. That was your favorite place to fight Vegas? Japan was interesting. That was a photo there a few times. For the U.S. for the U.C. over there and I fought for pride over there. What was different? I'm help fighting in Japan. It's just the first time I went and going out there, I think it was 18,000

17people there. And I remember it because I was watching that Dan Anderson fight and I was sitting there coming out from the locker. I got the first tier playing outside. And when we're standing there, I'm screaming at him. My brother's tapping me. I got my headphones on. Screaming at something like, hey, hey, I'm what? People can hear you. It's a crowd. No, it was quiet. Like when you fight, Japanese are quiet there? They're quiet. I think we're spec where you're fighting. Yeah, but when you're fighting, it's going to be like a guy who passed the guard, but they're very intelligent fans too, but I passed the guard and I go, oh, quiet. I mean, I could, you know, I could, I could yell instructions from, you know, the first, the first riser sit down to the ring and you hear me. Yeah. Like it's like Japanese love a good guard pass. No, but it was like with, like, a good move, but it was just so quiet. Like, you know, the fan,

20you know, we're still fighting. That's hilarious. We just went there recently to Japan a few months ago. I noticed that too. Like, they're so polite. I think I heard one car horn the whole time. Well, they don't honk. I, and I, and I, and I was well, I'm hold out there where I was walking around too. Like, I get like, and I start taking pictures and I, and he got a crowd, I'd be in a crowd of people, right? Like the lobby of the thing. But as soon as my buddy's back and let's go, let's go. We got to get you out of here. Like, and they start, we start trying to go away. Everyone goes, oh, he's done. Okay. Basically, if you want, that's very polite. Like, oh, he's not, he's not taking pictures anymore. Okay. Yeah. Stop. That's where you got the tattoo. What? Then we got the tattoo. No, I didn't get it there. But the tattoos for my original karate style, but it says Koikan. It was well, that nice. It's what we wear in our geese when we get your black belt instead of like your gym batch. Yeah. Switch that they have in our geese. So, cool. A lot of the fighters don't come from

21disciplines like that now, right? Like karate. Some, a lot of them do, a lot of them don't. Yeah. There's a lot of guys that come from different things. It's just playing and saying, if you decide to get in the fight, they start blending it so much sooner. Right. You know, like you start doing everything. You realize, I think one of the best things about the UFC coming out in the back way back was that teaching people that, hey, we, we, because my old karate style, they think, it's like, oh, we can't, you can't master his art. You know, you can't evolve. Like, wait, our, our founder evolved our, our, our, our, and made our style in the night, I think it was 50, 90, 52, and he combined the different styles together and put it together into one style, right? We had to stop evolving in 52. Like, we can't get better. We can do, and I think one of the things that the UFC did was show everybody you have to have some kind of answer for a ground game. Yeah. You have to say, as I'm going to answer, answer for a wrestler. You can't just, you're not just going to,

25oh, I can just punch you. Okay. Well, if you can't stop me from taking it down, you'll get it, if you can't stop me from taking it down, you don't get to punch me. Sorry. All right, guys, I want to tell you guys about another one of our sponsors, Beam Dream. This shit is fucking amazing. I've been taking this every single night. You did dancing with the stars. Oh, yeah. How long ago was that? And who's your partner? Oh, oh, nine. Oh, nine, uh, add a truck in the sky. Everyone says it was a really funny and great performance. I don't want to take away from your dancing ability. No, my dancing abilities are hard. Look, it's one of the things it's like, I'd be fucked on that show. Well, that's a pretty My goal is to set it really well. He's on the show with me. I said, I'm used to telling my body what to do and it just doesn't. But dancing's not the same. That's right. Like, one of the

30things I always say, like, uh, like for me, like I got, you know, you what the our position fighting wrestling, uh, football, it's all here. We're like bang over or any athletic position, right? In dancing, you need to be here straight in the position. And it's like, if I've ever been in that position, any sport I've ever been, I'm screwed. You're sure you're done. Like, it's like you out when you're dancing. Like, so when you get, like I get behind on a move or a step, you want to catch up, right? So you want to get to an athletic position and get there, right? Yeah. But like, uh, on an explaining to me, she said, look, when you get in that position, now I've got to travel four times the distance together where I got to be. Yeah. So it's like, it's funny. Not cool. Yeah. Stars and we're breaking it down like it's a UFC fight. Yeah. But it's like a thing. I'm like, oh, okay. Well, I think she's trying to give it to me in a certain way. I understand it. I'm like, oh, okay. But so was it tougher to prepare for that than

33some of your fights? You think? Oh, yeah. Well, you're not comfortable in like, I like, did you go into that with the same confidence, too? Or are you like shit? I don't know. No, I think I was, I just did one letter down trying to get to make sure I don't mess this up. And one of the other things is like, she's, she's, she's so sweet. Like that, like in the season after she was talking about the difficulties of working with someone in my socks. Yeah. She's like, well, it's like, and she called me a sh, I think she said, call me a Sherman tank. Like, I'm like, and she paused. I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I like, I'll take Sherman tank. That's something good. I'm good with that. Yeah. I guess that wasn't an insult to me. But she was like, saying like that, because a lot of the girls are backly the guys. So they backly. So I can't backlead you. If you go the wrong way, I'm going with you. Yeah. I told you not, I can't make you move the way I want you to. Right. So it was just that place. Do you remember? Oh, I was out

34after week four, week four, maybe week five. I don't know, though. You know, I think, I think they're mad at me because a friend of mine, um, you know, you are, uh, he, uh, he, uh, stole the, the key. They, they, they, they got for the practice room. They got practice rooms. They had they got one of those, uh, house boxes where you've got a combination, you get the key out, and you can open the door, right? Yeah. She stole it off the thing. Like, well, we're out, he wanted to see it. We're out, out drinking one night. We're out. And he wanted to go see, see the workout area. Like, oh, cool. All right. He's a, you know, takes pictures of whatever. He was going to say it and then we get back to the house. And he's got the lock box. Oh, shit. I'm like, what are you doing? Yeah. But why do we get it? So I don't know, think about it. Don't worry about it. I'm going to take it back in the morning, whatever. I get up about,

34go in to go work out of like 12 or whatever. And I bring the box and I'm like, hey, man, my friend grabbed us. I'm sorry. They've got the cops that are changing the locks, the, the freaking out. And so we, so we were, we pissed off the, uh, the staff, like, or the people that run the play, like, they, they, they changed locks. They probably thought that there's like a stalker or something. Yeah. Something, something crazy. So I'm, I, and I get it. I mean, but, and then I, I think I was out the next week. I was out that week. So I, I think that might have something to do with that. They're just get rid of it. Yeah. This guy, this is a liability. We got to just, yeah. No matter how big it is. Unless you had your best performance ever, then they're like, fuck, we're in a pickle here. Yeah. I don't know that. Yeah. Cause I think we are, we're still trying to get get that. I mean, the reason I did it was because it was for, it's trying to get a demographic, because it was a demographic that isn't ours. We're sure. Yeah. For, for, for me, it was perfect. It's like how they had bad money in the Super Bowl. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's not our diameter. It's not my demographic. Yeah.

35So it's, it's trying to get more people to see us as, as fighters and, and, you're going to ask your girl to call you a Sherman tank now. I, she already may. I'm trying to think because we have dancing with the stars. Entrez, what are their big cameos? Cause I think I'm missing blue mountain state. Yeah. Oh, wow. That's, that was fun. That's, that's, that's, that move I do in there. That by my special move that, I don't know if you've seen that episode. Yeah. Or I do a cartwheel to a horseshoe punch. And that was actually the, the, the only crazy move we can do. I mean, I, I do this one. We, we do like, um, at the end of training camp, John, who's always just crazy, like points sparring, like, circle, like, it's just kind of funny. Cause we got that goof around and do like karate kid types. So like, I'm trying to try to score on guys and one, and one of the things I do is, like, especially guys that are coming from out of, from other gems or whatever, like, I go out there and I try to get a cartwheel to a horseshoe

36punch. Or if I could land that, it was like, it was a walkoff. I had, I, you know, but it was just fun. I was like, people like, they look at you. You, you do a horrible lot of them. Look at it. Like, what's he doing? I dive in with them. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm scoring both, you know, so that's one of the blue mountains since that castle. I said that he's, you know, but that castle absolute legend. Have you ever been like out at a bar and a fan's tried to press you or something and been that stupid? That really actually, um, I, I, I, I mean, I, that guys look like I grow up fighting and I, I knew how to turn what you say into a, you know, a moment where you have to decide either to put your tail between your legs and walk out the door or fight me. Um, but I learned about when I was 21 to do that. I didn't really want to do that. I give guys outs, right? So, I mean, I, I mean, I had, many people say stuff like, I could have easily turned it into a fight or they were trying to be pretty something. I mean, I, I mean, hey, you sound pretty tough, man, we're making some good money now. You should play fighting the UFC. Then they go, they go back and sit, they go, hey, Matt Chucks, I could be in the UFC and I can go sit down and take my beer,

39relax. But yeah, I always say like, I never had much problem with that. Like, excuse me, when the, here's the thing, um, I'm used to it a lot bigger than they thought I was. I'm not known for being a slick wrestler or a striker, uh, uh, a slick wrestler or a jiu-jitsu guy. I'm known as a heavy-handed brawler. Yeah. So that's not a, yeah, so you use them on a mess with, and then, and moat, to be honest, um, most assholes that would do that kind of thing are fans of so far as I, I'm nice, I'm nice enough to, um, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm easy. I'm approachable. I mean, you were, I'm not, not easy to sacrifice with. So, you know, they just want to go home tell their boys, you know, I feed chocolate, L, it's fucking the dive bar tonight. I've never, I never really had to put that problem. Yeah. I don't see that happening. And I'm laid back, and I will have fun. Yeah. But you make fun of me. I just thought if it's funny, I'll have. Yeah.

40Was there any low points in your career, like mentally or just like emotionally? I have to pick one. I mean, obviously any time you lose, you lose, you're going to have that, um, tyrant was tough, like just making that choice. Um, but I, I think, I think when I, the hardest loss for me was, was losing a Randy the first time, the first time with Randy, not because I lost a Randy, because he's a great fighter. And I, I, I kind of knew what, what I did wrong coming into that, but letting Tito off the hook was what bothered me, because it was dodging me. He was like, you went from challenging me, like, I'll, but I'll kick trucks ass after I'm done with what, Ken, like, I knocked the guy out and he went and then all of a sudden he doesn't want to fight me. Yeah. And so it was like, and this is the fight that I was going to theater, I'm tired of having to fight me. If you wanted, if you wanted to get a saddlebag, um, and, and I lost that one, so that kind of really sucked. Yeah. I think Dana helped out letting me go fight and cry,

41and I got that fight with over him right away after that. Yeah. So they got me right back in her gym. So it was good. What do you think made you such, because I mean, even today, you're such a fan favorite, what do you think people love about you so much? I don't know. You know, I, I, I think it, I just, I'm just me. Like, I go out, I'm like, I think I'm, I think I'm, I'm never, I was never a character. I just, I, I, they like to stop my style of fighting was when I like to fight and wait. People that happen to like that, um, you have a sick of shorts, ever too. Yeah. Thanks. That was cool. Yeah. Other things, but the shorts are so dope. Yeah. It's awesome. Yeah. Knock out. It's probably helped too. Now counts. Yeah. Well, it's a style of fight. Not here's the thing. I mean, I did you get to I did good wrestler, um, decent wrestler. Um, but I, I knew I could finish, I was best at finishing on my feet. And that's, that's kind of when I got into the sport. Like I, I came in with two things, had to learn the ground. And I spent

45most of my time like I, like I do, I know, I know I had to do submission. I know I knew, but I wasn't good enough at them to, to submit guys at that level. Right. I mean, I, I've been doing it for a few ask me, I mean, yeah, I've been doing it for a long time. But I, during my fight, we're concentrated mostly on just getting off my back and staying at it and standing good position on top. So, and not getting caught. That, that not be, you know, that's one of the things you have to learn submissions to understand what they're trying to do to submit you. Yeah. If you don't understand what they're doing, it's easy to catch you, right? Right. You know, you learn some new, like when someone, oh, it's a new move and all you get someone, you know, that's why those work so well because when you're first learning, I mean, you don't know what to do. Sometimes you do the wrong things. What submission were you best at? Would you like, would you like the most? Sort of like rear nakeds? If I went for anything, it'd be a rear naked, usually, I mean, I like, I mean, goofs from around and in that, like I, I trained with Scott Adams. He was one of the best

50link-off guys at the time, um, in my opinion. But, but so I, I didn't like playing, I was really getting a counter-ing-way box, but I was, I was, as soon as you started to go for my mountain, I ain't playing with it anywhere near, I'm getting out of here. I'm not playing with hooks. So, plus is like that. You know, Ryan Hall, he always goes for link locks. Oh, yeah. That's all he does. There's guys that are good at it, man. That does, and they, and people who's got better and better, obviously, like it's been, uh, you know, it's fun to watch. All right. Well, what should we plug your clothing brand real quick? Oh, sure. Yeah, what do we got here? Yeah. New clothes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Key of wireless. Just lifting t-shirt right here. Yeah. Key of wireless. Key of wireless.com. Hell yeah. Yeah. When did you guys start this? A couple of years ago. Yeah. It's been, been going. It's been fun. What other stuff are you doing, like, right now, like day-to-day, business-wise, personal-wise,

52hobby-wise? You know, raising kids, um, just kind of looking at opening a gym. I've been planning, but I've been talking about that for years, you know, but I kind of stayed away from a fight team and, you know, it's up for a long time because of my kids. So, you know, I want to, I don't want to have to be gone when they get, when they get so coming up, I like to prioritize watching them play. So, um, but looking at, looking at opening one soon. And, uh, yeah, just doing, doing things out, um, doing out colds. Those were fun. Like, if you do those reaction videos, those, uh, get on there with a few people and have fun watching those. Those, those are always out. People like those. Yeah. Yeah. It's always some stupid things they put on there, but, but that's, that's fun. Hell yeah. So, I appreciate you coming, bro. You're making a truck. Thank you. Thank you, bro. Thank you, bro.
