Chiefs Trade McDuffie to Rams for Draft Picks
About this episode
The Kansas City Chiefs trade cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams, receiving a 2026 first-round pick, a fifth-rounder, and a sixth-rounder in 2026, and a 2027 third-round pick. The Chiefs, who missed the playoffs and had their first losing record since 2012, decided not to meet McDuffies contract demands. The Rams, aiming to improve their weak secondary, view McDuffie as a top-tier corner with impressive stats. This deal earns the Rams a B-plus grade for adding talent, while the Chiefs receive an A-minus for the valuable draft picks, now holding the number nine and number twenty-nine selections.

In return, they get a 20-26 first round pick at number 29 overall, plus a fifth rounder and sixth rounder that year and a 20-27 third round pick. The Chiefs are shaking things up after missing the playoffs and posting their first losing records since 2012. McDuffy, their 20-22 first round pick, was heading into his fifth year option, but they decided against meeting his contract demands. Meanwhile, the Rams jumped at the chance to fix their week secondary from last season. They view the 25-year-old as a top tier corner with solid stats like three interceptions and plenty of pass breakups. This deal gives the Rams a B-plus grade for adding talent better than most free agents even at a high cost. They still hold the number 13 pick and might tweak their defense to fit him better. For the Chiefs, it's an A-mine-us-move with great value on draft picks.
Now with the number 9 and number 29 selections, they can reload and stay a threat in the league. This episode is supported by our sponsor. No earbuds, no headbands, no awkward sleeping positions, just a pillow that plays your sound. S-O-L-I, solelypillow.com.
