We're going to have a lot of fun because in this bonus episode, we got to talk about a, the trades that have to be made. There's no way around it. The trade philosophy in this NFL draft for the Kansas City Chiefs is important. And in a bit, we're going to come back and talk about a post scenario that's happened already in the past, and what we just learned about it from an unlikely source. I hope you guys are having a good day. Thanks for joining me. This is a, this is a time of year that they often call smoke. It is smoke season. 2:04This is season 22 for me, overall. And every year, it's slight variations on the same. Quite frankly, it's gotten a little bit more complex and subtle in which our, our peace in a minute is going to shed some more light on. But this year, it's got to be a bit of everything. There's got to be some drastic things. There's got to be some subtle things. And for Brett Vich, the volume is what the volume is. You can't turn it up anymore because this draft class is screaming at you what it needs and what it has to have. And that is a trade out of number nine. As we sit here, mid-march, late-march, whatever we want to call it, looking at the 20th of March, I feel they have to trade out of nine. I may come around on a different scenario as we get closer to the draft, but right now they have to get out of nine. I'm convinced of it because one of two things, first, the top edge rushers are likely not

3:11going to be there. There's always a chance that Rubenbaen in particular falls to the chiefs at number nine. And if they love him as much as I'm hearing, they love him, go ahead and do it. I think loving Rubenbaen might be a bit of smoke on Candice City's part. So that is something to consider. And when I say smoke, knowing that we've talked draft for so long and I've covered this for so long, I want to tell you, every team is a liar right now, every team. Whether they're telling you the fans, one thing, and the internal people, another, whether the telling one team, something, and another team, another. There's a lot of lying going on right now, and that is all a smoke screen to put up a barrier between what the real plans are and the real hopes are. What's also be real, there's a lot of hope out there. A lot of teams are hoping for things to happen in this draft, and they're trying to give themselves as many options to get a result that they want out of it. That smoke screen is all about who wants who or who's talking to who or who's motivated

4:16to do X, Y, or Z, take everything with a grain of salt right now, because it's all all smoke of one kind or another might be that thin, wispy little white smoke that is just a slight distraction, or it might be set the tires on fire, black plumes of you can't see through it, smoke, either way, every team is doing some of it, and I think right now the trade up is still unlikely, right, Vitch will trade up, we have seen that, do I think that's the smartest move here, probably not, especially if it were to involve having to give up to pick next season, because the draft class next season, I think is going to be dramatically improved over this one. So it is still a possibility, and if Brett Beach does love somebody, maybe it's a David Bailey, maybe it's an Arborees, I don't think you're those guys fit spags bill, but maybe they do, or maybe it's a wide receiver that we don't think is going to be there, maybe

5:16the smokes real and they will trade up. That's tough, when you're already in the top 10, it gives you an option, it's still very expensive to trade up within the top 10. So most likely it is a trade down scenario, which makes sense if the top adressers are off the board, you could trade down, pick up an additional pick, you could even trade back up with that additional pick, from your second pick at 29, also in the first round. So that's what I think the scenario right now is that I'm pushing for and that I think the cheese need to do is trade down from nine trade up from 29 and try to get it done. They've done something similar and they've been able to throw their own smoke in the past talking about that next. 9:22time the chiefs had a plan. And I believe the Brett Veech targets players. I think that's pretty evident for those who like to deny it. I have a couple of circumstances that I will point to. But it's not just best player available, especially in Kansas City, but across the league. Everybody has players that they like that they like more than others that they want to make targets. The chiefs do it too. And I think right now they have a plan. They have targets right now. It's not going to come on on draft day. It's not a last minute thing. They have targets they want to go get. They had a target on Josh Simmons when he was at San Diego State before he got to Ohio State. They knew that they wanted him. They knew they wanted Patrick my homes. That's what we heard a little bit more about this week. When Mike Borganzi, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs, both in player personnel, assistant GM, now the GM of the Titans, went on with Peter Schrieger and talked about the run-up

10:26to the Patrick Mahomes selection. And he spent a lot of time talking about how he did film and Brett Veech did film and how Brett would text Andy and wear him out and all that. That's all great part of it. But a couple of the subtleties probably went under the radar for almost everyone unless you listen like I do to figure out how they go about this. And this is what it came down to. It wasn't that they knew they were going to trade to X, Y, or Z and grab this kid. It was two phase. One, they knew. They knew a year in advance. They wanted to go pick Patrick Mahomes. In an absolute year, Mike Borganzi admitted that in May they had these calls, texts, etc. Before the next season. And he talked about having to keep it quiet and make sure no one leaked. That whole fall, while the Chiefs were playing their season, they knew the quarterback they wanted to go get.

11:26This was the year that Alex Smith is flexing in the end zone and playing some of his best ball of his career, yet they know they want to go get this kid. That says a lot. A, that they were able to not only put other smoke out there. In fact, he talked about deceiving the media that they were looking for a linebacker, which Peter Schrader fell for, and in playing that all out, throwing that smoke for a year, that is dedication. And I think that that is a true plan hatched and conceived, but it took another thing too. He also admitted that yes, they had that plan, but they had to find a draft partner and they didn't know who it was going to be. And finally, as a cane closer to the draft, they were able to get that pick with Brandon Bean to go up to 10 to go get Patrick Mahomes that they had been targeting for over a year. I think they probably have something in mind in this class as well. I think they've understood that it wasn't going to be a prime time class.

12:26I think they're here to disobey that Dante Moore didn't come out in this class and keep another quarterback above them. I think there's a number of things that they would have liked to see, including March Manning, too, probably if he had played more. I think right now they are looking for that trade partner up down or otherwise. That's where they're at right now to see what this plan will turn into. Hopefully we find out more about what this plan is because that's coming together and we're going to cover it for you here like we do all the time.
