Charges Dropped Against Man Filming Border Patrol

Federal prosecutors in Charlotte are moving to drop the final charge against a 24-year-old U.S. citizen who photographed Border Patrol agents during raids last fall. Miguel Angel Garcia Martinez faced felony assault accusations after agents said he used his work van as a weapon while filming them on November 16, 2025. The case dimmed from Operation Charlotte's web when masked and armed agents swept through the city, arresting people in parking lots and outside a... a... church. Martinez pulled away from what his lawyer called, a voluntary stop, leading to a short chase, where both sides drove into oncoming traffic. Martinez, a local father of two who grew up near Charlotte, could have faced over 20 years in prison. The Department of Homeland Security highlighted his arrest to claim agents were under attack, but a magistrate judge already tossed the deadly weapon, charge for lack of evidence.
