Central Alabama Storms: Trees Down, Roads Blocked

Officials are warning people to stay away from fallen trees, especially if power lines might be involved, since you can't always see them clearly, particularly at night. In Shelby County, a tree crashed onto a camper home in Calera, but everyone inside is safe. These also blocked County Road 86 and County Road 84 near Vulcan materials, though those roads are now open. Jefferson County saw crews clearing debris along Oxmore Road and College Avenue in Homewood. Over in Shelton County, storms twisted a trampoline, ripped the roof off a chicken coop, and toppled trees near Highway 191 and Highway 50. James Fuller, Calera's chief information officer, says to call 911 if trees block roads so the right teams can respond. For private property, he recommends removing dead trees ahead of the next storm, and notes
