Capybara Samba on the Loose: Search Intensifies

0:00On March 23rd, a capybar named Samba escaped from Marwell Zoo near Winchester, in Hampshire, just one day after arriving there on Tuesday. She's the world's largest rodent, native to South America, and can weigh up to 80 kg. Her enclosure mate, Tango, escaped too, but was quickly found hiding in nearby bushes. Now in its sixth day, the search has ramped up with sniffer dogs tracking her scent along local rivers and gardens. Who staff have narrowed the area and are asking nearby residents to check their ponds and water spots, since capybaras love swimming. Locals have been buzzing with sightings, including one as far as Stonehenge 35 miles away, and near a pub in Auzelbury. A recent video from Sunday morning around 11.05 a.m. showed Samba by the River Itchin, but dogs barking scared her into the water before. Keepers arrive with heat-seeking gear. 15 team members rush to the spot after a resident shared the clip, confirming it was Samba looking healthy.
