0:00Hello and welcome to the official Supercoach AFL podcast late mail and captain's show for round eight, which I think is a third of the way through the season, which is crazy. I'm Al Payton and joining me. We love a Debbie Tont in Supercoach and, well, meet your age Debbie Tonts even better. He could have been called on the Wilburity type operator. He's been around the chapter a while, but first appearance for this year, Dan Batten, welcome to the show. Well, my team's not going great, but it's great to be here else, so yeah, let's get stuck in. Exactly. So plenty more this week to talk about with injuries and changes and whispers for the teams this week. So we'll go through those very quickly, some captain recommendations as well. And we can start with the news, big news, of course, in Supercoach is that the Supercoach Cup kicks off this weekend, head to head, competition, 131,000 and 72 entries in round one that will be halved after this week. So losers are out. Winner goes through. So check out your matchup this weekend. I think I've actually been stitched up, so I'm actually projected to lose against the guy

1:01I'm up against. So we'll watch that very closely, but I'm not sure how you're looking down in the cup. I had the buy. Did everyone have the buyup last week? Yeah. Lots of the buyup last week. That was sort of a qualifying round. This is the real stuff. This is the real stuff. Yeah. Well, I think I had a stinker this week, which actually works better. It means you match stuff against maybe a worse opponent, but the way my team is going at the moment, I need Josh Rochelle to pull his finger out otherwise it might be straight out. Well, we're keeping it close on all those results as we fly through all the way through to round 24, where, of course, we'll be down to just the two remaining teams fighting off for that magnificent trophy. And at the $1,000 prize. But starting off this week, we've got some teams news, of course, calling with Hawthorne playing tonight in the Thursday night game. If you change this here, not, I don't think another man going to make a huge difference to us in super coach, but four changes at the prize. We know they're resting Scott Pendabry around his milestone game and just keeping him fit after what he's called nearly 150 points last week in about his 450th game. So yeah, he's going all right, but Jeremy Howe has also been managed. Bo McCreary has the old general sawness, might be the first appearance of the general for

2:042026 and Tim Memory has a hamstring injury. So Darcy Moore comes back, Ned Long comes back, Will Parker and Jack Buller, who is actually on the bubble, but he's 285 K and he has a break even of 131. So don't think we'll be going there into super coach over at the Hawks, just a couple of changes. As you would expect, James Sicily and Dylan Moore are back after their one week bands, Harry Morrison, Jack Dalton, Makeway and still no Flynn Perez. So if you went there a couple of weeks ago as a 99K rookie, he was sort of managed last week, but he's not back. So yeah, that's unfortunate. I think yeah. I'll see you again. I was one of those who did go for him at 99K, was always a risk with his job security and thought, surely if there's anywhere he gets a game, it's when Sicily suspended and he was out. And not even in the emergencies either. So at least we can't be a loophole this week, but I feel a loophole in the weeks to come. Yeah, yeah. I might come back at some point, but yeah, that's it because I didn't think he was too bad in those two games that he did play. Now, in other teams news, we do have another Debbie Tont that we heard about earlier today, Cody Curtin for the Brisbane Lions, younger brother of Dan Curtin was picked 43 in last

3:09year's draft. So obviously they've lost Oscar Allen for about three months with a foot injury. So Cody comes in as a Ford and probably the impact there in Super Coach is 113K. We'll see how he goes, but he's averaging 66 in the VFL. So I probably don't want to put too much stock in him as a Super Coach rookie, but it probably means no ZZ for people who are hoping he might come back in with with that Oscar Allen injury. Yeah, because the thought might have been that Tyke out goes back for, but he seems like he's gone pretty well as a key back. So yeah, obviously they're putting their trust in Cody Curtin. So I'd actually spoke to him with a draft combine last year. He's really mature age and he's very strong and he could impact right away, especially in that line's fall. I'm a cement logon Morrison. I've been able to do, but I probably don't think he's a Super Coach option, even at 113K. It would take a lot for him to average 60 at the VFL level. Over the next, with upgrades coming in, you sort of sometimes you just take whatever rookies there. So he's always good to have him as an option.

4:09And we think his brother might come back in for the cruise this week too. So that's another one to watch when we see the teams for the showdown. But plenty of news down at the Winnoble this week, we think Tim English is a decent chance to come back in against Frio on Friday night. So he's listed as a test. So it's Aaron Norton, which not really Super Coach relevant, but pretty crazy considering what happens in last weekend. That was just shocking watching that live on TV. But hopefully he's all right. And you might play this weekend. Ponson Pelley, Luke Beverage says he's a little bit sore, but they don't think it's going to get any worse. So we'll just keep playing him. So, I mean, I guess that's good. Does it affect whether we potentially think about him as a captain we might talk about that a little bit later? And the other one that's interesting as at the dogs Dan Arty Jones listed as a test. So he's had a pretty unlucky run so far this year was sort of KOed by Harris Andrews in opening round. If you remember that one, came back and then scored about 82 points. I think it was in three quarters, then did his hamstring against Nesson. And so now if he does come back in this week, he will be on the bubble as a mid forward is an interesting one when we've really been talking about because he hasn't played

5:10for a few weeks. But should we consider him if he's named this week? Yeah. It's definitely a watch. I mean, especially with Rich go who will get to a bit later already there, he'd scored at a 60 in the preseason as well. He had some really good preseason form. Looks like a really good pick after opening, you know, halfway through opening round. And then obviously the injury. So it scored 82 in round four against the bombers, you know. So I think with that 20 scoring loop, you can probably afford to wait a week on him, especially with Rich go already there. But if you need another mid forward, yeah, it's not about to show out if he comes back. Yeah, I don't mind that because I've got a stack of mid forwards in my forward line, but I don't have any in the midfield, which is making it a bit tricky. So having one on the bench could be useful. So yeah, but good point that give him his price might not go up too much this week. We can afford to maybe have a look at him and if he goes well, potentially see what the rookies look like next week and bring him in. The news around the traps. We think Todd Marshall will come back. He was late out with illness last week, trade this week.

6:11He's not on the injury list for port. So we would assume he would play. Hopefully he comes back in for the power Isaac Haney. We think we'll play had calf soreness and missed game last week, which is stiff if you have him. He's been absolutely flying. Mark Pidenay is down as a test for the blues, Mr. Weak, we have the broken hand. I think if he comes back in, do you think Liam Reedy keeps his spot? He's the currently the third most traded in player in super coach, 119 in case. I scored a ton last week, first of his career. So obviously played all right, but can the blues play the two rucks and what does that mean for Reedy scoring? Yeah, I mean, I think it could be a chance this week considering it's against the Saints. Obviously, they've got the two-pronged ruck set up. So that could be a chance, but long-term does he stay in? It's hard to say. He doesn't, he hasn't, as we saw in opening round, he doesn't impact that much up forward. Liam Reedy, but they might look to try and overwhelm a martial and decoding with that, with two rucks themselves. But Pidenay has been going pretty well on his own.

7:11So yeah, it's, I guess we'll see in the teams tonight, and that's probably when you make your call about Liam Reedy in terms of it downgrade. Speaking of dual rucks, I was one of the Max Gornonus who was very surprised in a good way to see Max Heath take him. So you had him capped in too well? Yeah, that's okay. We did that after passing on the bonds of EC. Just a lesson for everybody. If you get 135 from a VC, you take it no matter who, how well we think you're a captain might go. But yeah, Max Heath took 50% just about of the ruck concess last week with Max in the goal square for a lot of the game. So he did well to score 100, to be honest. He still played all right. And so it was interesting to his Stephen King talking about it this week. He did have one line where he said, I just did like the look of Max Ford, which is not what you want to hear. But he did also talk about Max Heath, how basically he earned his chance. After really playing well in the VFL, but we've got to be careful about how we manage him. We don't want to burn him out either. And maybe it was just a bit of circumstances that he was playing well against the Tygs. Gorn was going all right in the four line, you know, Richmond had no a bolt in jumping

8:12all over him at the opening bounces and maybe just word for that particular game. So given up, he's coming up against Grundy this weekend. That was something that King hinted at as well that maybe they've just managed Max a couple of times the last couple of weeks with that Grundy match up in mind. So I'm thinking that Max will do, well, Max Gorn, that is, we'll do the line share of the rucking this Friday night. Hopefully I'm not just being too optimistic. Oh, you think so, but I'm in the other, the other argument, you could look at it both ways, obviously, the way you were saying, or maybe they go max Heath at stopper just to overwhelm, you know, to combat Grundy, because that's probably not his strength as much to the leaping in the hitouts and that sort of thing. And then you go Grundy, I was used Gorn around the ground to sort of really stretch him. So maybe they do play the two rucks, it's hard to know which way they go. But either way, I mean, he was playing out of his skin, but he was still playing 50% game time. And it was against Samson Ryan. So there is that qualifier there, of course, sorry, Dossie, I know you're probably going to be producing this after, but one of the worst trades of all time.

9:13And to be honest, I was considering it too, but I'm luckily, when else we're, but yeah, I think either way, Gorn, like, he's a whole, like, you got, I think he's got West Coast the week after, or they've got a pretty good run coming up. So obviously you wouldn't be looking elsewhere with him, but we just hope that, you know, it's limited ruck for max Heath. And still for lining, I've got Max Heath in my keeper league. So I might actually play in this week, instead of benching him like I did last week. Now, speaking of rucks, Dania, of course, our Jolong Evertizer correspondent, you're down at the category this week. Mitch Edwards, I think, produced a mighty 12 supercarriage point last week from about 80% time on ground. And he's up against Grundy this weekend. So we'll talk about captain's short. Oh, cherry, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But even even more anonymous mashup. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What do you, you know, is there any issues there within potentially not playing? I think Tana Brun also didn't train. Yes. So the media is there, which so is that just the cats playing? Gays, but it actually we were there longer than usual at training.

10:15Blitz Arves was like an off to the side with a leg brace. So he's out. You think Stanley probably does come in. Do they play Stanley and Edwards? I don't think like Stanley's probably would get smashed just Stanley against cherry. So I think that works in Edwards favor. And I think with Edwards, every week it's been, is he going to get arrested? Is he going to get arrested? Scott said, nah, look, he's performing, well, you know, we'd like to give him a rest eventually, but like he's performing so well that we actually can't afford to leave him out. But obviously he didn't go great on the weekend. So yeah, that'll be definitely a wait and see. But yeah, if I had to, I had to guess right now, I'd probably say Stanley and Edwards playing. Brun, I think that, I think that's definitely a watch as well, which is because the cats have rotated through a lot of players in recent weeks. I had a few six day breaks in a row. You know, Stanley, I built a conning rather being managed in a few others over the past few weeks. It could just be that they're managing through a lot of session as well.

11:16So you know, you can read too much into these things, but you know, he hasn't really had a game off yet, Bruin, and I had limited game time in one of those games where he dropped to 60. So yeah, I think that might be just a bit of a watch, whether he is out or has limited minutes this weekend. Yeah, interesting. I've got them currently factoring into my trade plan, so yeah, it wouldn't be the worst move if he has less games. I'm at least this weekend, but we'll see what happens. There are a couple of other little ones before we get into some captains noticed Brent Daniels had a press conference this weekend, a couple of interesting comments from him, which people might be considering him as a trade-in after a pretty, a couple of pretty decent scores in his first two games. He's only 300K, but he did say that we're playing at Smart with his body during the year, given obviously the injuries that he's had. So maybe some shorter breaks he might have a week off for some limited games, I'm as well. And keep in mind, if you think about trading him in, down at Richmond, just more terrible injury news and it's the kids that... Will he ever play out? Well, Josh Sinalt. Which one are we afraid to? Because there's been seven things for Josh Smiley and Josh Gibkis. At least he played the first game.

12:17Gibkis. I startled him as well. So both of those guys, you know, multiple weeks who know, you know, no time lines, and you look at the Richmond injury list, which goes forever and a half of them, like TBC. So yeah, shocking run down there and those two young guys in particular, we just want to see them out on the parks, particularly as Richmond supporters, but as supercoaches, as well. So yeah, I mean, yeah, just we won't be seeing them any time soon, both as the end of it. Yeah. And Smiley, apparently he's grown an extra few centimetres as well. So one 97 centimetre mid, apparently, but I don't know, like it seems like those tall events are breaking down more and more in the modern game. So yeah, we think it's cross, he can, he can get it together because he will be a great supercoach pick when that comes. Yeah, apparently some runs fine. It's only when he tries to kick the ball at, it's a problem. Disha-ball off, apparently. Yeah. Yeah, sure. So we've got you here as the rookie expert. I thought we'll finish off with a quick rating of the bubble boys for this weekend. So Patrick Richko at the Tigers is clearly the number one trade in this week at 26 Disposals, I think last weekend scored in the 80s.

13:17So and given the injuries of Richmond, he can't see him falling out of that scene many time soon. So he'd be a clear number one, but if you wanted to pick another rookie this week, and we mentioned Adi Jones, Liam Reedy, Jefferson at Melbourne, I think he's on the bubble. Is anyone else that you think about? I probably wouldn't be going Jefferson to be honest. I mean, I think he's only goals really came from, you know, pretty dodgy free kicks and 50s. Yeah, that's against Richard. That's so good. That's what he's done. To be fair, I was actually barricading for Melbourne most of the game because he had Max Gordon-Captain was, was promoting in the chat. Gordon wasn't getting any free, so he's got all these other, anyway. Anyway, so in terms of the ranks, I think Richko obviously cleared number one. I almost say he's a must have rookie at this point, especially with the limited options coming up. What's the fair bit of him in Jolong V for last year? I reckon he wouldn't be playing in any other team besides Jolong, and maybe a couple of other contenders. Like, is it? It just wins a lot of footies we've seen on the wing, and yeah, again, surprised that he wasn't playing Richmond earlier on in the year, especially with, you know, other people were playing on the wing like Sonzie and others, but yeah, I think he's a lock and, yeah,

14:22which could be a pretty reliable on field options, as well as that, maybe that M8, or even if you've got a zero in there to sort of emergency loophole, but in terms of the seconds, I'm one of those ones with McCandruid R3, so I'm thinking that even if Reed is in for two weeks, three weeks, one week, I'll trade him in if he's named this week. Just a cashier. Yeah, that's right. I mean, but a lot of people aren't in that position. They might have McCandruid in flex, or anything like that. Definitely, I watch on teams, I reckon, like, I think it's definitely extra impetus if pitnets out. If pitnets out, it's like, okay, he could potentially, as like number one, rock, score your, you know, 7080 to get a big cash grab, and then hopefully he stays in for a bit longer, but yeah, the long-term job security is definitely a concern, but at the same time, there's not really too many other options on the horizon, so, but I think if you had to choose the 20-odd Jones and Reed, and they're both named this week, it's probably Jones, in

15:27the long-term, I reckon. But then in terms of the others, Charlie Edwards, I mean, with Curtin coming back and others, he's playing pretty much as a pure mid. Richell, he wasn't playing much in there. Rankin says he wants to get more mid-fueled. It's just probably again a concern with job security. I'd almost prefer trade in a Sam coming a week early. Well, that was going to be my next question about the guys to watch this week who play last weekend, we'll be on the bubble next week, and Reed Rookie's coming was, you know, pretty good we're talking about that, watching the Tigers, obviously, and Tom Burton's only 99K, so he hadn't scored 40, but if he could stay in the team, a 99K would be pretty handy. And I thought Tom Williams actually showed a bit further swans as well. Did, yeah, for sure, and he's had a few years in the system, but again, he's a locked-down K-back most likely, so, and, you know, they've had Hamlin go out, and it's just, again, that the job security there is questionable. I think coming is rockside, I mean, Richmond Carniford, to not play him, right? He was only really out because of his shoulder injury, a recurrence of that shoulder injury had, from his draft year, but, yeah, got a fair amount of a cent of ounce minutes as

16:31well, and even when he wasn't half, it wasn't pure mid-fueled, he was sort of half forward and pushed the end to the mid, so, yeah, I think, yeah, it's actually a tough choice between going early on coming or doing an Arty Jones or a radio if they're names, but, yeah, even if you have that extra cash, because he's 170K, I probably would go in terms of long-term job security, I'd say that coming is the most reliable, even when he's played Andy exactly and scoring, too, in that role. Yeah, we'll definitely be talking about him a lot more next week, I think. All right, we just jump into captains for the week. It's a bit of a tricky week this week, even some of the selection users were still waiting on, some injury clouds, and also the order of the games, which we'll talk about in a sec, but we'll count down from the top five. I've got Nick Daykoss at number five, so his record against the Hawks isn't great. We know Finn McGinnis came back into the Hawthorne team last week and he did an absolute number on Nick a couple of years ago, so, do the Hawks do that again, Sam Mitchell referred, was talking asked about it this week and he said, yeah, it's definitely something in our kit bag that we can look at, but he did say, you know, Nick's been a bit of a different

17:31play now than he was. I think that was back in about his second season when Finn completely shut him down, but given that they played Thursday night, you could roll it off. And he has done the media interviews this week too about his, you know, his really painful injury. Finn McGinnis that is, so, yeah, you know, he's definitely playing this week, so could they send him to him? I think it's, it is a bit of a watch, and he's scoring in the last sort of few games against them as well. Hasn't been amazing. I think he's actually, yeah, just sort of, I think even last time he had a lot, I remember I traded him in. I think on that game, around 12 last year, and he scored once extambit, he had about 40. So, yeah, and especially with the way he was using it last week, it is a bit of a watch, but, you know, you can never doubt Nick Deikos, can you? Yeah, and the Hawks are hard to read because they haven't really tagged, but then they've got Finn McGinnis there. Zach Butter scored 150 against him a couple of weeks ago, but then bought on his scored 80. So, yeah, but given that's the early game, you could potentially put the VC in just a year ago. Definitely. So, yeah, I think that's the first place on the Friday night, averages 122 in his past

18:32three against Adelaide. So, not amazing, but he's absolutely flying this year's scored 112 last week, even with a heavy tag promotion, Mullen. So, yeah, don't mind him as an option on Friday night. Then I've got the bond, but as we said, playing saw, and now we saw last week scored 135. I remember last year, a couple of times he was, came in under an injury cloud and went absolutely ballistic. So, you can never doubt the bond need. Has an incredible record against Freeo, average is 140 in his last five against him, including 140, four last year and 160 and 180 in his last few. So, yeah, he loves playing the dockers, so that's an option, but again, tricky timing with the games. And then, yeah, speaking of Friday night, we've got Luke Jackson against the Bulldogs, who are in the same game, obviously. But maybe this is a bit dependent on does Tim English come back, because if he doesn't, he's probably rucking against one of the dog's two games. Yeah, a lot of he Smith and Lewis Emmett, oh, he could, like, I've targeted him as a trade in, depending if English is named, I mean, like, even if he is named, I might even go with him. But, yeah, he could go, his memory, the, the vehicle isn't teeny last year, the 180 game.

19:35I reckon it could be that could be on the cards against a lucky Smith. Yeah, so again, close watch on teams. And then, similar for number one, on the list, I've got Tristan Cherry. We mentioned him earlier, coming up against the cat. So, back in the team, scored 150 last week against the Giants. Dorsi was very happy about that, which was very annoying, but, yeah, it just depends who he comes up against this week. So last week, Jordan Sweets scored 141 against Mitch Edwards. And he was dual rucking with Don, so he doesn't know who knows what Tristan Cherry could do. Now, Rhys Stanley does come back. I looked up last year when Cherry played the cats. He was up against Stanley and he scored 151 in that game. So, I think he's a pretty safe bet whoever he plays. Yeah, I think he's given that one 92 break, even a shame, for sure. Could you, as a bit of a risky move with captains, it's probably bound to go wrong. Could you VC the bond? See how he goes in the first quarter? He's up to, I mean, I think Fricko tweeted this week that he's one of the highest first quarter scorers. If he's on a six-year quarter time, lock it in, and don't, obviously, can't see the score. 40 minutes after that game, the port game starts.

20:36Yeah. So, you could then go into roll into butter, sea, or wait for another option later on. Yeah, I guess it depends when, if you've got a loophole later in the round, like I've got plenty of white plays on the Sunday. Yeah. Yeah, if bond starts well, you could let him roll, and then if it sort of peed us out, then at least you could, you know, you could get a loophole. A backup option. Later. So, who's playing later in the round? Or if he has an absolute stinker, and then you put the say on butter's, and then, you know, as Super Coach works, bond would end up scoring 150 and butter would score 70. Yeah, we do. What about, would you choose Jackson or Bond in the same game? Ooh. Maybe it depends on you. It depends if English. I think if English isn't there, it's 100% Jackson, but I'm probably leaning towards Bond if English is there. Just because of Bond's history against the Dockers, and the fact that he scored, you know, 135 a month later, last week. Yeah, fair, fair. I also looked at, potentially, Grundy against the day, especially if he's coming up against Max Heath, fair bit. And that's all I want to say, Miller, against the Blues, not a bad shot, either as a backup captain. On the Sunday, the Tag is to watch, we've been talking about that.

21:37We mentioned that game. So, Ashine Mullin, probably you think maybe Harry Sheezle, or Luke Davis, you know. Yeah. I'm just looking at, like, the general Tag is, it's more, more so like the, like, the, the, I guess, your burst players like the L.D.U., rather than a Sheezle, for, for Mullin. Like, they usually, like, a target, a, a, a, a, Zack Buddies, or like, you know, a Bond and Pelley, those sort of real hurt factors, whereas, like, Sheezle was probably more death by 1,000 cuts. So, if I had to, you know, guess who they're going to attack, it's probably, probably L.D. U. And he's shown he can't tag the bigger bodies with, with, with, uh, with a couple of weeks to go. So, but yeah, definitely, I wouldn't be putting the second Sheezle though, just in case. So, Fino Sellerland did that to the number on, uh, my man, uh, uh, Finn Kellyanne last weekend. Who do you think he'll line up with going the other way? I mean, he's, um, as the most obvious target, or maybe a Max Holmes? Yeah. I mean, that is probably the obvious one, but like, I look at Holmes, like, there's got such similar traits with Foss speed and, and Holmes, Holmes being, you know, one of the, the quickest players in the comp. But at the same time, Holmes has been playing half back, and it's like, do you want Foss

22:39playing as a, a half forward? Yeah. It could chop and change a bit, you know, it's a, a bit of a watch, but obviously, like, Foss does have the, the running power as well to potentially cover a barely smith. So, yeah, um, I think that will be a, I watch this space, but definitely don't be trading either of those guys. I think they're going to be dropping in price as well. Yeah. I break even here. Yeah. Especially Max Holmes might get, uh, defense. Yeah. Speaking of those numbers on, uh, code sports. So, um, yeah, that's going to be a close watch over the next few weeks. And the other one, just the flag is, uh, you think James Jordan will go to Cosy Picket this week. And the other one, maybe just hold off on that trade, you know, like Cosy's just been absolutely flying. Might not matter. But, uh, he does have the eagles the week after. So, if you don't get him this week, we're hoping maybe slightly lower score, get him a little bit cheaper, potentially, but, um, yeah, he'll be someone I'll be looking at very closely next week ahead of that West Coast game. Any danger of any timeline, a finger on Cosy, like, seriously, like, that was one of the reasons why I didn't pick him because I thought, okay, he's just going to get these tags and he could probably be, you know, a little easily nullified, but I mean, with Richmond, like, you know, he would have scored 120 with a tag, I reckon. So, he was on absolute tear.

23:40Yeah. All right. Welcome to Coach's Edge brought to you by tab we're on, uh, last week we went very, very close, but we're going to, we're going to nail it this weekend. I did mention last week, uh, tall forwards against the bulldogs and that, uh, would have paid off if you'd gone down that route. So again, you might look at some of those freer guys. Patrick Vicer, he comes back into the team is $3.30, uh, at the tab to kick through a ball goal. So, I don't mind that. And then I reckon that, as the tie is being undersold here, $3.50 for a Richmond one to 39 point win against West Coast. I seen in the, uh, in the herald sun that Al has tipped the Tigers. So, I mean, so West Coast home game, but I mean, they're not dribbled that well. Surely. Yeah. Well, I took the Tigers against Port and yeah, they were shocking and we got so many, I'm not with a wee Richmond. I've got so many players out. So, uh, yeah, I mean, yeah, we'll, like, uh, we'll see, I mean, three, three, 50. It's, it's not the worst shot. Yeah. Might have to put a little bit on that one, but, uh, the same game multi this week is from that game now. A rookie roulette, as we know, can be punishing in Super Coach, but we're targeting some of the rookies who've been so good for us from these teams in Super Coach East.

24:43So, Patrick Richco, uh, we love in Super Coach as the bubble boy this week, 20 plus disposal for him, 20 plus for Willem Dersmoe, who's been fantastic for the Eagles this year. Uh, Josh Lindsey had, I think, 20 kicks last week. So, we just have him down for 20 disposals. I think he should cover that pretty easily.
