Caps Surge Past Flames 7-3

The Washington Capitals beat the Calgary Flames 7-3 on Monday night in a game that saw big swings between periods. The caps jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first, but Calgary fought back to tie it in the second. Then Washington exploded for four goals in the third to seal the win. In the opening period, the Capitals controlled play, especially in the Flames' zone. They scored three quick ones on rebounds and a slot shot, out shooting Calgary 8-7. The Flames turned it around in the second, dominating with 14 shots to Washington's 8. They cut the lead with a nice rister, then grabbed two shorthand of goals on the same power play to tie things at three a piece. Things stayed close early in the third until the caps pulled ahead on a power play goal, followed by another just 23 seconds later. Calgary net and a laybreak away made it 7-3 with Washington out shooting Calgary 13-5.
