Capitals Acquire David Kampf, Strengthen Fourth Line

The Washington Capitals just picked up 31-year-old forward David Kamp from the Vancouver

Canucks at the 2026 trade deadline, sending back a sixth round draft pick.

This move fills the gap on their fourth line after trading Nick Dow to Vegas.

Kamp, a left-shot player who can handle center or wing, brings solid bottom six experience

to help in the final push of the 2025.

Kamp started his NHL journey undrafted, signing a two-year deal with the Chicago Black Hawks

back in the 2017-18 season after strong play in Chekia.

He spent four years there, suiting up for 235 games and notching 58 points, plus a bit

of time in the American hockey.

He moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2021, posting career-best numbers

early on with 26 and 27 points in his first two full seasons.

Over four years, he added 65 points in regular season and playoffs, but this year he hit

waivers, played a few minor league games, then landed, with Vancouver before the trade.

For the Capitals, Kamp slots in nicely with guys like Hendrix Loppier and Brandon Duheim,

offering strong face-off skills at over 50% wins.

This season, physical play at 6 foot 2 and penalty kill reliability with hits and blocks.

His size helps shut down opponents.

He's waiting on Visa clearance, so his debut might come Wednesday against the Philadelphia

Flyers.

Adjusting to coach Spencer Carburey's system will be key after mixed results under past

benches, but he could boost their special teams right away.
