Simple stuff like grocery runs two blocks away left her lost, she couldn't drive anymore, and even lost track of her finances to the point her car got, repossessed. It all came out of nowhere during the pandemic when she showed up for a COVID test and walked away with that diagnosis instead. She had zero symptoms, but it took months of slow rebuilding to trust her body again. Society pushes this idea that cancer patients got to be brave warriors, but Gurwitch says that label made her feel like a fraud on tough days.
