Yao was a four-star recruits straight out of Calera. He started at Coahoma Community College, moved to Appalachian State in 2023 for 14 games with one start, then transferred to Arkansas State his final year, wrecking up 49 tackles, including a high of eight against his old squad. The towns buzzing because Yao Wei joins another Calera grad, Kobe Prentice, who signed with the Carolina Panthers. City Councilman Henry Davis called it proof of the strong culture and work ethic building there, a real win for the community. Now they're planning a big celebration Thursday at the Calera Elks Lodge from 4 to 8 pm to honor Yao Wei's jump to the pros. Small towns like Calera are showing big dreams, pay off, and with these two Eagles in the league, expect more highlights coming down the line.
