The Jaguars signed for Monterey Brown and Dennis Gardek, the two biggest outside free, or not outside. Inside free agents that the Jaguars brought back. They're not the only free agents that Jaguars resigned. You had Quentin Morris, who was going to be a free agent. Keith Taylor, Christian Braswell, obviously was an exclusive rights free agent, so they only had to sign him to a minimum deal, one year deal. You had Matt Dickerson, they brought back DJ Dallas, probably missing one or two other guys. But overall, the rest of those players outside of Monterey, Buster Brown, and Dennis Gardek, really we're going to be more on very, very minimal deals. And even the Dennis Gardek deal is not a huge one. But we're going to dive into the contract details here

2:03for both of those players. This is kind of nerdy kind of stuff that might not everyone really care about, but we're going to dive into it anyways. So I just think this stuff is kind of important to understand what these contracts really mean, because you see Buster Brown signed a three-year, $33 million contract. And it was reported or suggested by Ollie Connolly of the Read optional podcast that Dennis Gardek signed a two-year deal where $12 million, that number is not accurate at all. So the $33 million number wasn't quite right. $20 million, $20.65 million guaranteed. And basically, you have a out after the third year,

3:04excuse me, after the second year. Out after the second year. Obviously, there's an out after the third year. It's three-year contract, dummy. Yes, there's a team out after the second year, right? So the Jaguars can get out and save most of the 28th Capit, if they want to. Not saying they should want to, Monteric Brown is still a very young player. If he's playing up to his potential, and you still have Anthony Campanile or some version of Anthony Campanile's defensive system and place here in Jacksonville, no reason to think that Monteric Brown could not play this contract out. Now, if he's continuing to play the way, he's played the last couple of years. He might want a new contract before the contract is expired before the 2028 season, but that remains to be seen, right? But I think all this is stuff that makes sense for the Jaguars, a team out after year two. And when it comes to the actual Capits for this contract,

4:08in 2026, it comes in just under $4 million, $3.9 million, which that's what I expected. How do teams do this? How do you sign a player to an almost $11 million per year deal, but his Capit is only $3.9 million? Well, you sign him with a big signing bonus. And thanks to Shotcon, the Jaguars are willing to write very large signing bonuses. And then you also add void years. So this is a three year contract, but there is a void year following the contract, where the Jaguars are taking on $4.4 million of Cap space for this contract in 2029, even though the contract expires following the 2028 season. This is a strategy that a lot of teams are employing now, because quite frankly, the salary cap is rising so rapidly. These are negligible amounts of Capit long term. They don't impact you in a big way. So I think it's a smart way to do business because you're kicking the can down the road a little bit,

5:09and the road gets a whole lot wider the further you get into the future. So I think it makes sense. Now again, $3.9 million Capit this year, which is really excellent. I was predicting my best guess was that it would be in between four and five. And $3.9 is right at that point. So good to go for me on that front. Let's see if they have the Jaguar's updated salary cap on over the cap. So right now it says the team is $1.1 million in the red. So that likely means there will be another move coming before or at the 4 PM started a new league year later today, Wednesday, March 11th, right? The league year starts at 4 PM Eastern standard time. Teams have to be cap compliant by that time. So you could see the Jaguars.

Cut someone like maybe Tuma Adoga could make sense.

7:13They would save all the money they need and then some to be cap compliant. I think it's like 2.7 million. If they moved on from Tuma Adoga, they could also just restructure a player, they could restructure multiple players, right? So whatever the Jags want to do, they have the ability to do. It's just like, do we want to allocate the resources to do this? Is this the best utilization of our resources? They can restructure a lot of different players. They really want to do big restructures. You can be looking at like Josh Heinz Allen or Trevor Lawrence, if they want to make a big, big move for a player. That's still on the table, not saying it will happen, just saying it could happen, right? So in 2027 is when Buster Brown will get the most, well, not one, he'll get the most money. It's when he will count the most towards the Jaguars cap at $11.95 million. In 2028, again, the Jaguars could tear up the contract, write a new one,

8:14they could decide to move on, but it will be a $11.5 million cap hit in 2028 if the Jaguars let the contract play out through the three years. And then again, in 2029, the $4.4 million void year. So it's a good looking contract, man. I mean, for the way Buster Brown played for the Jaguars last year, I am all over this. I love it. And then when you get to the Dennis Gardek deal, he's an older player. He is much more of a role player, like Buster Brown is a starting corner back in the Jaguar system, starting outside corner. Dennis Gardek, on the other hand, is a player who, in some weeks, he gets starting reps. It just depends on the game plan. It depends on the situation, the opponent you're playing, but he's this hybrid off-ball slash on-ball linebacker, kind of like a Sam, old school Sam linebacker. You just don't see that as much these days.

9:15But he's gonna be 32. He's had a lot of injuries throughout his career. His deal is two years, 6.5 million. Average per year is 3.25 million. I'm totally good with that. And that's a good number to have him at. He's well worth that. Special teams, star, really good, specialized type of role in the Jaguar's defense. He can play the run on the edge. He can blitz from all over the place. He can drop back and cover a little bit. He can rush the passer from the edge. So there's just a lot he can do. His deal, the Jags, if they want to, they can move on following the 2026 season. But his cap number, cap hit in 2026 this year is 2001, excuse me, 2000, two million, 100,000, 2.1 mil. So that is a negligible cap hit.

10:16Not really a big deal at all. And then his cap number in 2027 is 3.35 million. And the Jaguars could effectively, again, get out after the 2026 season. They have $1.95 million in cap savings. If they cut Dennis Gardek after this season, with only $1.4 million in dead money. So they could definitely move on. If they want to, not saying they should want to, just saying they could. The flexibility is there. There are void years here. The cap number for 2028, the year after this contract expires is 1 million, 50,000. So very negligible, not a big deal at all. Yeah. I love both of these two deals. I think the Jaguars should still be aggressive to try to pursue someone who can be a high impact past rusher, whether that be from the interior or the edge,

11:16whatever you can make work, whatever you think works, figure it out, and then still be aggressive on the defensive front and the draft. So that will do it here. That's the two contracts.
