0:00On April 17, an 84-year-old great-grandfather named John McColle lost his life in a brutal attack by an ex-cell bully dog owned by 31-year-old Sean Garner. This happened on February 24 last year when McColle wandered onto Garner's driveway in Warrington, Cheshire. The dog, weighing seven stone four pounds, mauled him for 45 minutes, causing catastrophic facial injuries. McColle died a month later from those wounds. McColle's had to shoot the dog, named Toretto, 10 times to stop it. It had no food in its stomach and it started eating McColle alive. Officers also shot a second ex-cell bully, a female called Malibu, found inside the house. Neighbors tried using tools like a spirit level and walking stick to pull the dog off, but nothing worked until cops arrived. McColle's family unleashed raw pain in court. His granddaughter called out Garner for denying her granddad a dignified death, saying the dog basically ate him alive. His daughter accused Garner of robbing them of their loved one without a care.

Garner got 12 years in Liverpool Crown Court for owning a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused fatal injury. The judge slammed his lies, like claiming McColle unlocked a shed to free the dog and said any remorse was wiped out. Garner had priors for driving in drugs, lied to his landlord about the ban breed, and lacked exemption papers. This case spotlights the dangers of these powerful dogs when owners cut corners on control. Family shattered, justice served harsh remains a grim reminder to keep pets secured.
