On April 18th, a 24-year-old British dude from Dundee named Tyler Buchanan just pleaded guilty to teaming up with hackers to rip off at least a dozen companies ensnag $8 million in crypto from folks across the US. They pulled it off with SMS fishing scams, blasting fake techs to employees at entertainment, telecom, tech, and crypto firms to trick them into. Handing over login details from September 2021 to April 2023. This hit hard on victims who lost millions in virtual currency after the crew used stolen credentials to raid accounts and grab sensitive info. With one device at Buchanan's Scottish home loaded with victim names, addresses, and crypto keys. Buchanan's been locked up in US federal custody since April 2025, copped to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity, theft, and faces up to 22 years when he gets sentenced on the 21st of August. Meanwhile, he's tied to the scatter spider crew, charged alongside four young American

guys last November. Years and paying back 13 million in restitution as the FBI keeps digging into the rest.
