Britain First Protest in Manchester: Minimal Arrests

0:00On April 18th, Greater Manchester Police wrapped up a big operation today. April 18th, after about 1,000 Britain First Supporters and counter protesters hit the city center. They only made three arrests in the whole thing, way fewer folks than expected, showing up. The Britain First crew marched a controlled route from Piccadilly Station down Portland Street to St. Peter's Square, while anti-racism groups gathered in Piccadilly Gardens. The two sides faced off, but kept it mostly verbal, with cops in tight formation holding the line. Hundreds of officers, including backup from Mercyside Police, kept things separated, and most people on both sides stayed chill. Two male counter protesters got nabbed, one for not removing a face covering, and another for allegedly assaulting an officer, plus a woman for, breaching the piece. Tram shut down for hours around St. Peter's Square, and police used Pavispray on a small breakaway group trying to push through lines near the town. Hall Officials noted force was minimal to avoid bigger trouble.

1:02A dispersal order stays in effect until 8 p.m. tonight, letting cops clue the area if needed. Assistant Chief Constable Rick Jackson praised the teamwork for keeping the piece and minimizing disruption for everyday folks in the city.
