Brighton Beach Rape Trial: Asylum Seekers Deny Gang-Rape

0:00On March 18th, a trial is underway at Hove Crown Court, involving three asylum seekers accused of gang raping a woman in her 30s on Brighton, Beach. The attack happened last October after she left a nightclub. The defendants are Ibrahim al-Shafi, 25 from Egypt, Abdullah Amadi, 26 from Iran, and Karen Al-Dhanassur, 20 years old. All three arrived in the UK by small boat and were staying in government-approved housing. After that night, the woman had been out drinking with friends and became extremely intoxicated. Court heard she could barely walk as she staggered along the seafront around 5 a.m. Instead of helping, the men led her down to a secluded area on the Pebble Beach. The victim told police she drifted in and out of consciousness during the assault, fearing the men would kill her. She described being held down and pleaded for them to stop, too scared to even open her eyes at times. She also worried her friend might be in danger.
