There was a coxida and local chords, many classics.

But the real block starts tomorrow,

really, with Bruges, which is more of a sprint.

not as wet as it originally looked, but it is wet.

30 to 32 K an hour,

lots of crosswind opportunity,

and what's destined to be a brunch sprint with this wind

is not going to be the case.

It's going to be horrible, mate.

I never enjoyed the stress to get there,

dictate the speed of the group,

decide when you want to split it further,

but it can also be the devil.

If you're behind,

you can be as strong as you want

and there's nothing you can do to come back.

as the biggest race in the world,

but it's a World Tour one day race,

the first year of it being World Tour.

And it's going to be blown to bits.

And then we move on to E3.

That's the small race.

So, that's what I was going to say, actually,

for people back home,

you gave a quick overview of their names.

Areca now, you're the expert now.

I'm just going to sit here and listen,

but if you just give a brief overview,

a minute or so of each race,

highlights, no lights, it's good things, bad things,

whatever.

And then we can see what our favorite ones are.

So, E3, yeah, that's race, man.

It's like, if anything is bigger than Flanders, I would say.

It's actually one of the hardest races

because it has pretty much every climb that Flanders has,

include in Copperberg.

And it has every climb,

might not repeat them multiple times.

Flanders only in 200k.

It's so short, punchy and intense.

Short distance, but so intense.

Bam, bam, bam.

If you look at the parkour, it's just like super intense.

Yeah.

And E3, but a trivia for everyone in the back home.

Why is it called E3?

Because there's the name of the highway, no?

Mm.

Yeah.

It's random, that one, eh?

Imagine doing a race in the UK, M4.

A-470.

But this is one, let's D3 down a little bit.

Is the finish is a little bit disappointing.

Down the E3, like it's not that exciting.

Yeah, it is that long, straight road, isn't it?

But, eh, yeah, it's a super intense race, mate.

Super intense.

A nice Friday, and then on Sunday, Gengwevagan, eh?

It's short and slightly this year.

Normally, it's like, can be like 250.

It's just 240, so it's a little bit shorter,

but, eh, a new start in Middle Kekka.

And then it's, eh, normally it starts around Eber area.

But a race that's traditionally a race of two halves,

the first half is decided by the wind.

It can often be blown to bits.

And then the second half is, you know,

you enter the climbs at E3 times Kemalberg,

and now you have three sections of plug struts,

which are gravel, gravel and rows, basically.

And then it's looking like we're, then,

you're getting the big road all the way back to Eber,

which is going to be tailwind.

It's very hard for groups to come back.

But, eh, you had a very memorable Gengwevagan one year, didn't you?

Yeah, I was about to say, eh,

that's the race has changed a lot as well, isn't it?

But, eh, mate, I don't know what the wind speed was when we did it back.

Did you do it this day?

It's 2015.

How strong is Reckon that wind was?

Close to 100.

K and hour, obviously, not mile now, but it was,

well, when Stegwens, who's 90,

O'Keele gets blown off the road into the bloody canal,

you know it's windy.

But, eh, my one memory of that, actually,

which other than that,

was we were going down this straight road

and like, there was two quicks that guys in the break for me.

It might have been one other, but anyway,

and what's the day we're hitting me?

Because I've won E3 a couple days before.

yeah, this big dude was just sat,

like just on my wheel.

I was going up a slight drag and then just looking underneath.

And he's like, so, so, so, so.

I think it's the first time I've ever ridden anyone off my wheel.

I felt like I was the Hulk mate.

I was like, yeah, I have a bit of that.

But then.

Oh, man.

Now, I think that was one of the hardest races I ever did.

I would come in with Kate to go.

I didn't know it was a Kate to go.

My eyes were all blurry,

double vision,

because all the wind and rain and crap in your eyes.

Didn't even see the flag really.

It was just a tiny little kite.

Yeah.

Um, served should add me in the sprints and I was third, but.

Yeah.

Then there's plenty of memes going around every time in there.

Again, why are you going to come around this picture of me, like.

Just riding off onto the grass, flipping over the bars.

But, yeah, good times mate.

It's a tough threat.

And it used to be, like historically,

like the sprinters,

uh, the sprinters classic,

which made it harder and harder.

Now, we do two accents of normal camelberg won the backpack.

to finish, which is super tough. Yeah, there's some other... It's a tough, tough race, and

they've added the gravel road as well. Yeah, one thing that reminds me about that,

that they used to go down the camel, and there was that big trash one, yeah.

Yeah, do you remember? And it was like, this was before we were racing. That's one image I

always have in my head as a kid, seeing whoever it was. What a deck it down there, it was like,

holy moly. And Chippa throwing the ball. Yeah, the motorbike. Weird things you remember in it.

What's up next was doors. Is that what's called now? Was it changed his name as well?

Oh, it's changed his name. I mean, it's changed his name slightly. So,

by the way, Rewind into Gantwelfogum, it's called Inflanda's Fields from Middlegecker to

Welfogum. And this door is called, those doors flandering at Trave La Flamme. So it's still

doors door, yeah. I think that was the first time, this is a midweek classic in between

Gantwelfogum and flanders. And this was the first, this was one of your breakthrough kind of

classics results coming this race, didn't it? Mine. Yeah. Yeah, second behind,

Nick Noyens 2011. When Nick Noyens ended up going on to win flanders, so he was obviously going

pretty good. Yeah, national championship is on. It's one of them, like when you're young,

you know, you respect the race, you love the race and stuff, but you don't really think about

what you're doing. I think sometimes the older you get, you overthink things sometimes. And

there's one of them who's just just racing. I don't even know how I ended up going away,

but when away with Nick Noyens on some climb, we had two guys sat on us as well. Nick Noyens

trying to get me to pull hard, but I was just like, I'll do enough, kind of like always speaking

about with Pitcock really in San Remo, but get it enough to stay away. And he ended up beating me

quite comfortably in the sprint really, that the bunch would breathe in down our necks.

Tyler Farrer actually was one of the bunch sprint members in. Caves mate. Caves loved him, didn't he?

But yeah, that was my first like resulting Belgium really. Good race. Good race. Good race.

Good race, slightly shorter as well. That that whole parkour has changed different race now,

completely different race, but you're going to do two laps of a circuit, including three, four

couple climbs, but completely new. I think the best thing ever was there was like, I know sixth one

year is five times away and I chipped away from the group behind, but yeah, it's midweek. It's

a lot shorter as well. I think to try and attract people and the bigger riders there to kind of

make it a hit out midweek, I think it's like 180k now, which for a lot of guys to be able to rate

that between, you know, after 240k at Wevelgum and before 260 at Flanders, they've shorn it

slightly with that intention, I think, trying to keep some big names coming if they make it another

two, 20 years going to be big week. It's a lot of the minute when you think E3 Wevelgum and then

that Flanders is like a bruise before it and bruise through that as well. Yeah. Wevelgum,

doors door, Flanders, some teams will do shell the price and then ruby.

Yeah, like you wouldn't normally count bruises if there's no wind, you know, it's a sprint day,

it's a bit like like shell the price used to be, but with a wind like that, it's definitely a day

on the pedal, so. I mean straight off the bat, you've got 200k wind and rain. It takes its toll on

the bottom. Yeah. I mean, it could if it after six k, it's open. Bruce, there's no secret, every

single rider in the Etnaux after six k, it's going to start to split and then if you if you're

discovery plus or HBO or whatever, you you put that on the tally first, don't you? Oh, it's going to

be good from kilometer zero. That would be that would be worth watching. Right in sports fans,

So just one quick thing when you said that then ronda van flanderer and so I was in

up the way right ski and recently we were in this bar and there was this just chance of the bar

made with my father-in-law and she she ends up being from Belgium. So I was like oh you must know

the ronda van flanderer and then she was like but we kind of talking a bit like she wasn't really

wanting to chat but I think I'd add a couple of beers and it was just you know just chatting away.

She wasn't really definitely didn't want to chat. Anyway I was like right she's from Belgium I know

what I'll get her now. So I was like oh you must have run the van flanderer and

and aave my father and I was looking me like what are you going on about and then she had no idea

I was like I felt like what I didn't feel that bad but I was like okay this is I feel like

I said you're a map it. She never heard of it. No and I was like are you actually from Belgium

and she was from like well only part. So Prusky then was like oh yeah it's not really Belgium.

No that's not. That's mad in it like you'd think someone in Belgium everyone in Belgium knows

that race. Sure. I think she just couldn't be asked or can she make I think she just gave

you a cold shoulder because probably it's like saying to a British person Wimbledon I think

is a great example. I couldn't give a shit about Danips but I know Wimbledon is and you got

to spend it. I think I think everyone in Wales is six nations or something. Yeah there's no

getting away from it. Yeah she just didn't want to chat did she. Yeah top layman. Oh well

um but yeah I'm still flanders over Roubaing it. If I could choose I could flander. I think

just because it I felt like it was more suited to me and I just enjoyed it more for that reason.

Yeah I got that. Yeah that's that and just I wait you know I think we said loads of times the

atmosphere there that was the birds and the crowd and you just smell the beer on their breath and

it's just like the atmosphere there especially now but those loops require a map and just

builds attention don't they? It's just such a good race and like when you're signing on as well

I always remember signing on for slanders like it was just like I felt like a rock star didn't you?

Like I think it's changed now obviously but that that square I was going to say little square

it was massive but it was just full of people like a big church thing and insane but yeah flanders

for me. Fair enough it's still a bit for me but I mean yeah the coming down to the last two races

now really flanders and rebay that we're talking about these are the two monuments there's five

monuments per year and these are two within a week. It's also often referred to as the holy

week of cycling you know two monuments within eight days on two consecutive Sundays.

Huge week and you can you can almost do what you want at the rest of the classics but

everyone always remembers the final two flanders and rebay they're the big boys

that's what the classic everything else seems is huge races any one of them is huge

but you know it comes down to the final two they're the big boys.

Which is harder? I think Rubei takes his toll on your body more like the next day you're more

achy I knew and saw your neck and everything because of those cobbles but from a purely physical I

don't know I probably got more flanders just because of the those climbs like I don't know if you

run out of legs in Rubei you've got pretty slow on those cobbles as well but I don't know the

bugs feel I don't know actually if you don't have speed over cobbles you just seem to hit everyone

don't you and everyone slows you down even more. I remember looking at my when I was riding

looking at the power files and they were almost identical in terms of like

already yeah calories expended and average I think their average for Rubei is obviously higher

but normalized for flanders was always higher but in terms of like expenditure they're always

within like a hundred calories each other they're in like almost identical

like five and a half thousand calories or something six thousand it's up and crazy huge stays out

and big old days yeah and then after Rubei you just go and just drink below the Belgian beers and

throw up in the hotel room on the carpet and that's all stopped now though aren't it?

Perfect recovery I know it last yeah yeah the last two years of my career when I was there in

New York it kind of all stopped because yeah well a lot of people well we did it it was the classic

squad was the you know for the all the Belgian races and you would never really cross over and

do the art dance but then the last few years we had a lot of guys crossing over big Ben Dylan

big cock Magnus so you know they were racing the week after week yeah where for us it was always

Rubei's stop and you'd have your break him in for two or two or so one night out mate what's that

gonna do? Right all you need all you need is grenadier sriders listen to this podcast now because you

they'll be given them don't be given them anything any shit now feel go out and get plastered Sunday night

the opening day in it but only because yeah yeah yeah yeah but I just like the field wise as well

there's generally like Fabian always used to miss it like Boon and Never won it from that side

yeah so from that side that tells me that it's not as big you know if you ask it depends who

you're asking I think for the teams and in my eyes E3 and Wealthalcom are bigger than on loop

and current so I couldn't obviously go but from the Belgium's point of view if you ask a Belgian

I think on loop is the all like a general general public maybe not the Cypress general public

in within Belgium I think on loops the next bit after flanders and Rubei just because it's like the

first one you wait you wait you wait it's in every newspaper it's all the time on loop on loop on

loop but mate some of them haven't even heard of the rondo van vlandoren let alone she would

on the news blood well that's the classics mate it's exciting I'm looking forward to it like

it's where we started well where I started racing I'm guessing you as well really first

country we race when we went abroad going over to like South Croiden with

boss's name now John Barclay John Barclay he used to take he used to take kids over all the time

well I get the ferry over racing Belgium I was great at just walking into a bar and like

big old fat men with big beer bellies with beers just watching cycling they just blew my mind you know

like not football or rugby like it would be in Cardiff you know just these old boys talking about

cycling and the pub was just mad and I think it for me is a toss up between Belgium and Italy

I think Italy might sway it slightly nah nah Belgium mate just the weather can be bad but

just pure bike racing enjoyment watching it doing it the whole thing you know all right just to just

to finish this off who's going to win Ruby um it's kind of van the whole hog shootout but I'm

going to go in my heart more and say I'm taking a R team out of it no no no I'm taking him out of it

but I go Mads purely from Mads Pedestan from from like that's what I'd like to see yeah I'm going

to go out yeah shout shout I mean we can always say Matthew van the pool can't we you know like

I mean he says he's yeah I don't have favorite but yeah I'll go out to Flanders
