Bovino Retires as CBP Commander-at-Large

Great Bovino, the former commander at large for customs and border protection immigration enforcement, plans to retire at the end of the month. He led high-profile operations alongside about 200 agents in cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, New Orleans, and Minneapolis. Earlier this year, Bovino was relieved of his commander at large duties following two officer involved deaths of American citizens in Minneapolis. Those incidents sparked tensions between state and local leaders and the Department of Homeland Security. To help ease those conflicts, Borders R. Tom Homan stepped in to manage the situation in Minneapolis. Bovino's team had been at the forefront of the agency's immigration efforts during that time. Before his top role, Bovino served as chief of the El Centro Sector for customs and border protection. He was also a close ally to outgoing Homeland Security Secretary, Christie Knowham, and Chief Advisor, Cory Lewandowski.
