Boswell's Defensive Masterclass in Illinois' NCAA Win

0:00On March 20th, Illinois guard Kyland Boswell delivered a standout defensive performance in the team's first round in CWA tournament, win over Penn. The 6-foot-2 guard locked down Penn forward. TJ Power, a 6-foot-9 Ivy League star known for his three-point shooting and rebounding. Power, who usually hits over 42% from deep and grabs about 8 boards per game, struggled badly, finishing 2-for-8 from the field with just 6 points and 1 rebound. Boswell stayed glued to power all-game, using physical play and quick hands to deny him the ball without picking up a single foul. He fought through screens and disrupted every touch, making it tough for Power's teammates to even get him the ball. Even though Power was dealing with an illness, Boswell's effort turned a potential threat into a non-factor. Coaches and fans noticed right away. Illinois coach Brad Underwood praised Boswell for poking the ball loose multiple times and rising to the occasion. Saying he wished he'd call day, time out sooner, after Power's 1 make before halftime.

Lately in the tournament stretch though, he's brought full intensity every minute, filling the role of defensive stopper the Aligny have needed. With Boswell locked in like this during Winter Go Home games, Illinois looks poised for a deep run as they advance in the bracket.
