Boston Symphony Orchestra Parts Ways with Nelsons

0:00It's March 6th, here's your entertainment news in two minutes. The Boston Symphony Orchestra just announced they won't renew music director Andrews Nelson's contract after the summer of 2027. That's after 13 seasons together. The board says it's because they no longer share the same vision for the future, despite wanting top performances. Nelson's a 47-year-old five-time Grammy winner first stepped in with the orchestra back in March 2011. He replaced James Levine at Carnegie Hall and became music director starting the 2014 to 15 season. They extended his deal multiple times, including an evergreen contract, just this January. In a letter to the musicians and staff, Nelson said he didn't expect this, but remains fully committed to the group. He noted the choice wasn't about artistic quality or past successes, so he's focused on keeping things stable and performing at peak levels until the end. Right now, Nelson's is leading the Vienna Philharmonic on a U.S. tour. He was set to conduct them Friday night in Naples, Florida.
