Border Officer Charged in Opium, Cannabis Bust

A Canada Border Services Agency officer, station at the Queenston-Lewiston Border Crossing in Niagara, faces multiple charges for letting a truck, packed with millions of dollars worth of opium, cannabis, and tobacco slip into Canada. Back in January, the officer and the truck driver were both arrested after the officer skipped standard checks and waved the load through. This week, the RCMP lay charges against the officer, Daniel Noteriani, and driver Abhishek Abhishek, including conspiracy to import illegal drugs, trafficking controlled substances, and handling tobacco for sale. Law enforcement leaders praised the close teamwork between the RCMP and Border Agency that led to this quick bust and investigation. With court dates set for March 23rd, 2026, for Noteriani and Welland Ontario, and April 9th for Abhishek, authorities reaffirm. They're focused on secure borders and holding everyone accountable.
