Blue Jackets Acquire Garland, Canucks Rebuild

The Columbus Blue Jackets made a key move before the 2026 NHL trade deadline, acquiring forward Conor Garland from the Vancouver Canucks. In exchange, they sent over a third round pick in 2026 and a second round pick in 2028. The Jackets sit just one point out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and wanted to boost their scoring punch. This season, Columbus ranked 17th in goals per game at 3.13. Garland, a 29-year-old winger, brings solid experience despite a slower year with seven goals in 19 assists in 50 games. He's hit 20 goals twice and 15 or more five times over the last seven seasons, filling a gap after they traded Igor Chinakoff earlier. Vancouver General Manager Patrick Alvin thanked Garland for his five years in strong play, calling him a key contributor. He said the pick spit perfectly into their rebuild plans.
