And I'm Ashley Coffin. Hey, Ashley. Oh, hi. Well, I wonder why you're so excited. Listen, that was one of my favorite text messages you ever sent me. Growing up, you want to talk about Blade? Yes, I do. Oh, this morning? Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's great. Yeah, our listener, Christian McMullen, like four months ago, wrote this in an email that we should cover all three Blade movies. That's great. It's true. And honestly, I mean, before we even start talking about the movie, there's so much about this movie happening, which kind of made everything happen after it. Oh, yeah. We would be here if it wasn't for this. Marvel was bankrupt. Yeah, Marvel would likely not exist if it weren't for Blade. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
2:01Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. They not exist if it weren't for Blade. Yeah. Many, many of Marvel execs and such have said that because they were on the verge of bankruptcy about... They filed in 1996. Okay. They were screwed. They were about to probably end up having to, like, merge with someone or sell off or quit operating or whatever. They're in dire straits financially. And then this movie basically gave them the road map for how to make money, which was sell a character IP off and get it made into a movie, which, you know, has complicated things now that they have the MCU. Yes. They went a little overboard. Yeah. They went a little overboard selling things. But they, they now, they've got most of the rights back. And this, but this is what began the whole cinematic era, really. I mean, they've, they're Marvel movies before this. But this was the one that, like, oh, that's how we make money with this IP. They were such camp movies. Like, there was Howard the Duck in 86. Mm-hmm. And stuff. But Blade came out and it was R. And that definitely kind of opened the door for X-Men,
3:02but I think it also started like the Matrix. And it kind of showed you that you could have a dark superhero quotes movie and kind of, I feel like the dark night and stuff like that. Yeah, for sure. You can take a little bit from this. I was even looking at Resident Evil. There's huge like influences of the, this on things like Resident Evil, which was like five years later, which, you know, that whole, kind of genre of schlocky action has, has continued on. It's just, it's so many stylistic elements from this, that, you know, it is adapting from things before it, of course, but stylistic elements. I always thought about this movie leading into the Matrix because of the long trench coat and just the general dark style. And, like, you said, the X-Men, all wearing black suits, black flight suits instead of whatever. It's all very based on this same aesthetic, but, like, watching the movie again, which I don't think I've watched since theaters. Like, this is on my first free watching blade. Oh, really? Yeah, I am not a huge, I like the movie, but I'm not a huge blade fan. And so, going back, it's like,
4:02not only is it stylistically similar, like, the fashion, but the, like, the cinematography, the way the camera moves, the characters move into frame, like, it is setting up a lot of what is to come in, not only Marvel movies, but all kinds of action, adventure, kind of stuff. We had that, like, meeting of the, like, a gothic meets that 1990s aesthetic. It's a martial arts heavy action movie, and then it has that score, which I feel like you're right, the Matrix kind of has that same thing. Like, when it's fight time, it's like this sixth, you know, industrial song, and that was the big thing happening then, was all the industrial stuff. I think it also showed us that lesser-known characters could succeed. And then, I mean, we have a, the first black-led superhero blockbuster, and it's a serious, powerful portrayal of a black comic character, and a major representation. Yeah. Absolutely, which pissed them off so much when you think about, like, the Sony leaked emails when they're like, I'm sorry, black movies don't travel, and they wouldn't cast black actors
5:02and some of the lead roles and Sony movies back in the day, because they were like, black movies won't travel, but this movie was a huge success. There's plenty of movies that have been huge successes, and it's just a self-fulfilling prophecy when you decide we're not going to cast black people, because they won't travel or whatever, and then they never will travel because you don't cast them, even when you've seen huge successes like this, or things like whatever, independent stay, or like a huge movie starring black leads, and it's just, it's an insane thing. Yeah. And it's just like, after it caught fire, it just stopped, and you're like, why, what happened? Hollywood. I was 14 when this movie came out. I bought the soundtrack immediately, and even today I was doing my little treadmill thing. The beginning of this movie is beyond iconic. Like, is there a better intro to a movie, and then you get the song by new order? I don't think there's a better scene in this movie either. Like, I don't think so. The whole movie is good, the whole movie is good, but that first scene sets the bar at this level.
6:03I don't think the movie ever reaches again. It is so, and it switches so interestingly, like you said, the score is wonderful, but like the rave, like sexy rave party, then obviously something creepy is going on with those weird bodies in the background. Then he gets in there, and then it becomes the most horrifying scene you've ever seen, reminds me of the descent when she's like falling into bloody pools of, that's a little worse in the descent because it's like bloody pools of gross stuff, not just blood. But that, these bloody characters just reaching out for her. It's just so terrifying. And then it flips on a dime when blade walks in the room. That's the thing that's so cool. He looks so clean. Yeah. There's just something about the way he looks compared to everything else that's going on. And I love it so much. If you haven't seen it a long time, this is the scene where a vampire leads an unsuspecting human into a race. Tracing the words, porn star. Her name bubbles.
7:03Yeah, yeah. I knew I'd heard her name somewhere before. Did you see Zach and Mary make a porno? I did. That's she was in that day. She's bubbles. Nice. Oh, okay, bubbles in that. Gotcha. Yeah, I didn't remember where I'd seen her name before, but maybe I shouldn't reveal it. I knew her name. I should have never heard her name in my life. That's like the Jenna Jameson's, the Tracy Lords. It was the crem de la crem of porn stars. The night is just popping into movies, especially horror movies. Yeah, yeah. Well, that's the thing. This movie walks this line between the sort of... It allows it to have a long leash with the gore, with the sexuality, with the... There's just some weirdness that is... It would not be okay in a Disney-led Marvel movie, unfortunately. No, no. And I don't expect Blade to go as far as this movie went, because it's riding this line between nobody expects its success, it's kind of riding under the radar,
8:05and making somewhere in between a schlocky horror movie that is allowed to do whatever it wants, because it's not trying for prestige, but then it's hitting on all cylinders as an action adventure movie that is creating the superhero genre. It's its nuts. And the guy who directed this only directed for movies, and the only one that I had seen was Leeuve Extraordinary Gentlemen. Yeah. Which, that was the last one he directed. And I know that one. I think went really high with the budgets, and I wonder if that one... It's not the best movie. I know a lot of people have a little place in their heart for that. Sean Conneries in it, though, is... I definitely have a place in my heart for it, you know, it's not the best movie at all, but it's fine. It's of its time. Oh, sorry, I was starting to... Just to give people context, the scene we're talking about is... Vampirely is an unspecting man into a rave type situation in a... Beyond a cooler and a meat packing house, and then in the middle of the rave,
9:06blood starts raining from the sprinklers, and it just becomes this intense horrific scene. I couldn't remember... I remembered the blood, but I don't remember how many humans were in there, as far as I can tell, he's the only one. He's the only one, yeah. It's just a room full of vampires reaching for him, and grabbing for him, and... What I think had already happened is they killed a bunch of the people, and that's what we see, and then, because they had to fill the tanks up with the whole human blood to spray down, so he was just like a little fun, and luckily they made him kind of a dick, so he deserved it. I did not like the way he threw her coat on the ground. Well, he got away, too, right? He did, he did, yeah. He got him out of there. What did they do to make him a dick? I'm not really... I mean, he was just kind of a genius. He was just kind of being... Yeah, and then, like, when she handed him her coat to hold the coat. Oh, yeah, he just threw it on the ground. Yeah, I was like, what was that? That is disrespectful. Very disrespectful. It just seemed... I got this since he was like, I'm now in a room full of beautiful women dancing. I don't care if I follow her around anymore. Yeah. Yeah, so yeah, I definitely got the douche vibes, for sure.
10:07It's so funny, because I've been obsessed with Stephen Dorif, since I was a little kid, because I had a crush on him in the gate. Do you remember the gate from the 80s? No. It was like this hole in the backyard, and monsters came out, but... So he's always kind of been in my, you know, film zeitgeist, and then I was up... So I was like... You remember when you used to record stuff off the TV, like trailers, or movies? Yeah. I recorded, like, every trailer for this and put together, like, a master cut, the way that people just do on YouTube now. I couldn't wait to see it. And I was so in love with Stephen Dorif. And it's so funny, because he looks very different in this movie than he does. I think the blue contacts look so real. It's very convincing. And you can tell it's 1996 when they filmed this because he had those frosted highlights. He just looked great. Yeah. And they had him dressed up, like, Darth Joan Jett. You know, I could not stop thinking of him reminding me of is the lead vampire from sinners. To the whole movie. To the whole movie.
11:07To the whole movie. Like, just the level of disheveled that he is. And, like, once they cut his shirt open in both movies, like, there's just a real him being the vampire and everything. It's just, like, I'm getting real sinners vibes from this guy. Like, maybe that was him, like, 200 years or 100 years before. Yeah. I do kind of wish this movie let us know how old people are. There is that fun, higher archie of the purebloods and the vampire rules and the being too turned. Udo Kier, who recently passed away, he played, like, the leader, the one that they blow up. Mm-hmm. He was in Andy Warhol's Blood for Dracula in 1974, which is a fever dream of a movie. And before that, he was in a Frankenstein movie. Um, shit, what was it called? It was, like, Flesher Frankenstein. And both of these movies are rated X for the 70s. But it was really fun to see him pop up as, like, this high-ranking vampire in this after, you know, I don't know how long it's been since he's played a vampire in an Andy Warhol movie. But I always was happy to see him. He just passed away in November, and this is very sad.
12:07But he's had quite the career. Wow, that's really neat. And it feels like an interesting call back to have him, you know, come back as a vampire so many years later, as the head of the vampire. Yeah. You know, the old vampire, kind of the old blood. Which is fun. So, yeah, the rules of this are very interesting because one bite turns you into a vampire, which is not usually, you know, it can be mixing blood. This or that, you're going to bury them in the ground and all these different things. There's different versions for every universe has its own vampire version, which this was a little confusing because if you're bit once, but Whistler can fix you maybe, if you're not too far gone. They can push it off a little bit. Yeah, I don't know. Do some sort of garlic thing to purify you or something. But then there's also, at the end, I guess blade can't turn people because blade is a vampire, right? Well, she could just cure herself again. Okay. Because she quickly offscreen and only mentions at once that she creates a cure. Oh, yeah. No, I got that. Well, that was easy. So she let him bite her so that she could just...
13:07I guess she went home and purify herself. Fixed herself. Yeah. Okay. There is a major plot in this that I picked up on this plot hole that I picked up on this for the first time. What is it? We're talking about Lamaga. Oh. So, if Deacon's frost, his whole plan is to bring this ancient blood god back to turn everybody into a vampire, if you're caught in the wake. So, who would you feed on? Exactly. It's a big problem. It's a huge problem. Also, a weird problem is there's supposed to have these 12 representatives of the different houses or whatever. And before the ceremony, they killed one. Mercury kills one. And you're like, girl, what are you doing? Yeah. I don't know. Maybe they had more. Yeah, I guess they have spares. I don't know. It was really... That was like a weird thing. There's a few weird things like that in the movie. Like it's not... Like I said, it's a weird mix of like... It's not like a Marvel movie of today where they expected people to look at it and watch for all the plow. I mean, people did it back then. But it wasn't like it's on the internet where people are like making videos about... Here's the 28 cinemasins of this movie or whatever. You know, like...
14:07We didn't care. Yeah, we didn't care that much. I was like, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. I was actually sad that they never played that song again. You kind of expect them to play it at the end for the big battle but they played start by lightning. Honestly, this score is... It's like my treadmill score. Because I have this song followed right by Mortal Kombat. Oh, my God. Oh, yeah. It's just this perfect 90s. Yeah. It's great. Going back to the first scene, there's a great moment when Blade Steps forward. And I just love how these blood-covered vampires look like the most horrifying things in the context of this man running around. But then as soon as Blade Steps in, whatever they do with the cinematography, I don't know if they take the camera a little higher or what they do. And it's a lot of the acting and the music and everything. But suddenly they just look... Every vampire turns from looking like a horrifying creature to looking like they are just the most pathetic crawling on the ground
15:11running from Blade. So they go from the hunters to the hunted so quickly and nothing about the scene really changes except for... I mean, everything about the scene changes. But it's like you're in the same place with the same characters but suddenly they do enough with the cinematography and the music to just be like, okay, they're being hunted now. They're pathetic creatures running from Blade. This fearing this one man army that he is, you know? They do such a good job with having all of the actors in that scene who have really vibrant blue eyes in the front. So there's so much contrast with the blood and the blue and the white of the tile so that when it comes in and that all black suit. And then if there's so many, he's so good in this, all his little jokes, like it's actually kind of... The movie's very funny. Yeah. The way he just smiles when he walks in, when he sees them all screwing away in fear, you're just like, oh, here we go. Well, let's think. Here we go. I keep thinking he should just be a silent killer. No, I love it. I do too. I do too. Because I almost think that like whatever he says
16:11is gonna sound cheesy. But somehow Wesley Snipes pulled every line off. Like every line comes off so much better than it should. Like he seems like in so many other movies where you've got the killer, just like doing all this business, putting heads to bed, as you like to say. Thank you. They just like, when they break the silence, it feels kind of like, oh, you're not a character supposed to talk. And like, you know what I mean? Do you know what I'm talking about? I totally do. Yeah. He is this strong silent type. Yeah. But Wesley Snipes pulls it off. He isn't had that many lines. There's your kind of sparse, especially in the fight scenes. But when he says them, he pulls them off. Even if the line in any other mouth would not feel as good. Like Wesley Snipes is just eating it up. And I love it. I don't think a lot of other people's work. I think Quinn, every time he opens his mouth, you're just like, ugh, it's a little ridiculous. Oh, really? Like Karen tries. He's just written kind of, it's ridiculous. He could have been written a little better.
17:13I agree. I like Quinn. He's written to be kind of annoying. But I think he's, he's annoying the characters around him too. He's like, what I liked about Quinn is he's the second in command. And again, in any other movie that second in command character isn't given as much flair as Quinn is given. And I like the fact that Quinn is like almost like a pretender to the throne. At the end of the movie, he's like, we're going to be gods, man. Oh, I know. And Deacon looks at him like, we're not going to be gods. Like, you have misunderstood the plan here. But he didn't say anything. He said, I'm going to be a naughty blood god. I enjoy his over the top. He's annoying. He's not nearly as cool as anybody else. But that's the character. He's the guy who loses his arms and keeps having to grow him back. I don't know. I think he adds to the tapestry of the vampires. It seemed like a lot of the vampires had deeper personalities than just in a lot of vampire movies. You've got one leader and just a bunch of vampires that are just generally kind of sexual acting.
18:16But they all kind of had their own world personalities. I dug that. Yeah, it was like kind of what they did in underworld with this group of vampires that your job is. We just sit at the party and we just drink and we chill. And then there's other vampires. It's like a covenant they have going on there or whatever they call a nest. I feel like you really get the feel for it the first time when Wesley Snipes is at the hospital and he says Karen and the police shooting him. He's like, well, the fuck is you out of your goddamn mind? And I'm like, oh, set the tone. Yes, that line sets the tone after. And then it's funny after. It's one of the first lens he has. And it's just like, it's a tone that I did not expect at all. Like again, every time I see him moving so cool and silent and like killing everybody, I just don't expect the lines to come from him and they're, they always land. And it's really impressive work on Wesley Snipes for it. This was the first time watching it. I noticed that the cops were in on what's going on with the vampires the way that they're telling you the entire time because they were way too calm
19:17walking into that absolute blood bath in the, in the slaughterhouse. Because if you would imagine people would be like, oh my god, you know, what's going on? And they were just like, put him out. Right, I know it's all the cops, but there's definitely like a, a sect of cops that are working with them. We see the one familiar. But like, they, they also say in there, like, if we gather in, they're getting on to Deakin for, for having these parties. And he's like, if we gather in numbers, the human politicians will make our lives very different. Yeah, so there's like a truce going on. Yeah. Because it is what it is. And that's like L.A. I don't know what city it's supposed to be, but I can tell that they're filming at least some of that in L.A. And he's just like the Belchers of Vampires, that guys of Vampire, they're going on the corners of Vampire. This is Vampire. I'm like, okay, so is everybody a vampire in the city? Yeah. Get out of there, Karen. And how did you never notice? Guess it's everybody. I think the idea is that's a vampire club. And he's like, yeah. How do you know it's a vampire club? He's like, they're all vampires. I think it's just very funny. Yeah, it's really funny. But it does seem like there's just a big vampire population
20:20happening. And it seems like the purebloods at the around that table want to keep it this sort of secret society. They keep getting their drink. They don't, they're not going to mess with the balance between humans and vampires. But Deakin is all about like, no, we should be, we're top of the food chain. Let's have our parties. He feels frustrated. They have to have these parties in secret. He wants these blood bath parties out in the streets, you know? And what I kind of like about that is the frost first, like the vampire council. It kind of mirrors like corporate revolution. Like people say, like, we're not doing the right things here. Our generational conflict. Not wanting to do what your ancestors do. Trying to like move things forward. That tech era kind of moving in around the 90s and these vampires are like, I don't want to use an iPhone. You know what I mean? Right. Yeah. And he's like, no, we should be in control. These people are our food. And they're just like, you, you sweet summer child. You've not even, and I love the way they talk down to him. They're like, you're not even a pureblood. Yeah. Get away from me.
21:20Yeah. That's great. And then it's just pissing him off more. And I'm like, you guys, you guys better be careful of it. It doesn't matter. He's still a vampire. And he's going to get you. Yeah. And he only took him off the one, I believe. But I don't know, but he and they killed all right. The blood god kills him off the end. But he let him see the sun. And I love that scene. And even though I'm like, what kind of some block are you all using? Because your wrists are exposed. There is no some block in the world that's going to protect you vampires from that. I was wondering if like the purebloods might be more, this is just me head canning things. Probably. Maybe the purebloods are more susceptible to sunlight because they've literally never had it. And like if they've talked about these, the others, I love the line when she says, you know, you're not, you're not a new race. You're just infected. You know, like you're not a virus. A virus. A disease. Yeah. A sexually transmitted disease. And he was like, listen here lady, you shut your mouth. Yeah. I do. And I love her. What a smart idea to bring in a hematologist doctor.
22:20Because then you kind of, I'm just not questioning anything she's doing. Yeah. You want to make stuff that blows vampires heads up? Sure. Of course you know how to do it. You cured yourself. You got it girl. Okay. Oh, it was a really nice little concede at the end where you've got the, the final trick of the movie, which is using the EDTA that explodes the vampires as, as the MacGuffin sort of thing that's like hanging from the thing and blades got to get it to get put it into Deacon. And like it was nice because Deacon really did seem to know everything about blade, like you knew about it so already knew about. Yeah. It's like, I know all about you. I know about your serum. So he just made a wrong assumption. And it's nice because it's like, he made that one mistake and that was all that blade needed. The opening blade needed to like get that EDTA into him to blow him up. Yeah. That's fun. It's really fun. Yeah. I like the beginning. I love all the women and I think the women in this movie are so beautiful. Oh, yeah. The way I feel so bad for Karen because they do the beginning in such a good way of her.
23:22Quinn's body is taken there. We don't know that it's him or who he is yet just that he's a vampire. And they're having this relationship talk like she doesn't want to date this orderly or this other guy and he's getting in her, you know, her business about it. And then bam, that vampire just jumps up and rips his throat out. And I think I would react exactly the same way she did. I wouldn't believe it would take me a minute to believe what was going on in front of me. And enough time for that thing to definitely get me to because it's really hard to process that. And I think they shot that really well. Yeah. Well, it's also not just a vampire in that moment. It's like a charred remains of a vampire, which is pretty nasty. Yeah. It's really nasty looking like charred. And they say when it drops, they're like, oh, it smells terrible. Like it's this burn up human body and then it, you know, Quinn ends up healing. That's one thing they also do in this movie is they don't make getting bit by these vampires look sexy ever. It's always really like except for blade at the end. Oh, well, no, he, I think he, I was like, you need to let her go.
24:25He's like, okay, I thought that too. And I, and I remember that scene from when I was younger watching that scene. And she keeps saying stop. And I thought she was saying stop. But she's not saying stop. I pulled up, I watched it with a close caption this time and listen closer. She's saying don't stop. Oh, okay. And she's moaning as if she's making the noises. She's making moaning noises and saying don't stop, don't stop. And it's like got this very like convulsing. Maybe because she's already vampire. Yeah, maybe she's already a little vampire. For sure. But she's like convulsing in this very sexual way. And like, it just seemed like they were really going for like a sexual thing there. At least that the bite was giving her some sort of sexual gratification. And yeah, I just, when I was, when I was younger and watched this, I guess I was a teenager. I thought she was saying stop. And I thought it was like more of like, I'm fearing that blade is eating me. But no, she's saying don't stop. Which is like, you're going to die if he doesn't stop. He's going to drink all of your blood. I guess the greater good, the higher cause, he got to stop.
25:26Yeah. Yeah. Not what it seemed like her motivation was though. No, she was like, get it. I thought they were going to do some weird, so there's a big twist. You know, he's doing, blade is doing all of this because he wants to find the vampire that killed his mother and that tartan because he's a. It's whole motivation. He's a high, I can't remember what they call it in the comic books. It's something with like a, like a diifer, a, it's vampire, but with like an ancient front of it that sounds like human because he's half vampire. So in this, it's pretty cool that you get to get all of the powers of being a vampire but you don't have any other weaknesses besides thirst. I feel like I would thrive with that. I'm sorry that he's not having a good time with it. He seems to have a lot of guilt over eating people when he's younger. Yeah. Whistler says he found him like, you know, as a, like drifter kid just eating. A 13 year old. Yeah, like a 13 year old kid should run around eating people and like trained him not to. Basically. Yeah. And we love Whistler. Oh, yeah. But then the twist is Deakin Frost.
26:26I mean, Deakin Frost is his stepdaddy. I guess he's making his mom in this little sex box in his room. She seems very content there. And yeah, it was him the whole time. So blade is like, okay, not only am I going to stop this blood god stuff. I'm finally going to get the guy who got my mom. And even that we talked about things they wouldn't put in a Disney movie. There's also like a real weird vibe. And I know this is like, there's a little bit of an incest thing with the mom. There is a weird thing going. And that's kind of where I was going with that. I was like, what are we about to do right now? Yeah, she's like trying to tell him that, you know, she's a, she, these are her people now. She's a vampire now. His mom died a long time ago. And she's like doing it while like putting her face on his face and like speaking softly. That's your lips. And we're back here like, oh, it's your mama. Yeah, that's your mama, but it was a weird, that's a weird scene. And on that note, we should probably take a quick break. Good point. On the incest note, let's take a break. 28:28And we're back. Okay, so get about to the Le Mansure or Le Mansure thing. I thought it was really funny that they're like our ancestors built this temple and I'm like in Los Angeles. Right, yeah. That's like some Europe stuff. That's some Europe stuff. Yeah, it is very strange that that temple exists there. How long ago did it have to exist? For the language to be dead? Oh, I know. So it had been thousands of years ago. When we're against one piece of it, he's like the 12 people will stay together. I can't read the rest because it's gone. I'm like the vampires couldn't even read that. Yeah, none of them. Well, see, I got the sense that the vampire, the purebloods could. And they just didn't believe it. Oh, okay. And they didn't want him to know about people. Exactly. They kept telling Deacon like it's a dead language no one can read it. But Whistler can read it. So where do Whistler learn? And I think that like the purebloods know. And like they're not telling people like Deacon because they don't trust them with like the knowledge of the old,
29:28whatever the book of, have it written here. La Magra. What? No, it's a book of Arabus. Oh, that was good. The blood god. Oh my god. When they went to pearls and we go into that room where every one of these scrolls are in glass panels. You're like, oh, guess it's going to happen in here. Yeah. Those are all going to broke it. I could believe it. Like every John Wick. Yeah. Honestly, there's some real John Wickness to that scene, like the glass panes. Like that is, I think there's a scene in, I think John Wick, like three or four where like, they do the almost exact thing. They're going to do it. In the Hajimoto. A modern one at like the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, man. It really, this movie is, I mean, you know, I'm sure it's building on a million movies before it. But like, there's a lot of things that I recognize very clearly. And it's way earlier than, you know, movies that came out 20 years later that are still pulling from the same lexicon. Um, I think it's funny how they make it seem so easy to put people's shoulders back into socket. It happens like five times.
30:28Oh, my shoulder here. Let me help you crack. I'm like, that is not that easy. And you girl are tiny. He's got that big shoulder. It's funny. I was just like, yeah, how everybody is really good at that. That's funny. I'm like, yes, you are a doctor, but you are a hematologist, man. Yeah, you're not a, you're not a trauma person. Well, no, yeah, she was just down. I was thinking about she was down in that morgue, but like she wasn't even there for that. She was down there because the blood was weird. Yeah, he got her. He was like, but I just want you to come down and look at it. I swear to God, I'm not going to talk about us. He gets it pretty bad. I love the cool vampires. They're like, they eat everything. And he's like, Karen, it's good to see you. And he's like talking in that, like, British accent and talking to himself before she talks to him. You know, he's like, well, what if I should, like, that was real creepy? He didn't have an accent in the beginning. He didn't. Yeah. I know. I didn't know what that was about. Ah, instead. Like what's he playing like was he playing with the accent down there? Like he was, because he was saying some sort of,
31:28that he was doing a bitch. He's doing a bit, while being a vampire zombie. Like it was real weird. That's the thing. This movie is full of weird stuff like that that gives it life. And I think that is the thing that I am, I'm really appreciating about movies these days, these days that I hadn't in the past, movies that have a ton of rewatchability and a lot of depth, even if the overall plot isn't deep, it's like they're just the other characters that are given weird stuff to do that just sort of gives you, gives the world life that doesn't make it feel so like that your main characters are these three people and then everyone else is just like a servant of those three people. You know what I mean? Like we're like, or a victim or a servant or like they're just playing a trope like everyone's doing weird shit in this movie. I love the whole sequence when they go to the Japanese vampire layer like pearls and then they're using like Whistler keeps creating all these different little tools. He's like here's a UV light which looks like the Jurassic Park light which cracks me up because that was right around the same time. Yeah. And then they pop in there and there's this little like girls on stage. I was like go ahead girls you guys sound great
32:32and then you look in the entire audience is just disgusting old men and you're like wait a minute what's going on? It's not good. It's not getting there blade. It's creepy and I wasn't sure if it was all vampires or if that's a I think it was like 50 50 because it was a vampire bar. Yeah and I love you kicking the shit out of that cop and he's like tell me where the entrance is and he's like it's in the freezer and he smashes his face off a couple more things. He's like I swear to God it's in the fridge and it was nice. He just didn't believe that cop. Yeah he is is smashing. My favorite thing we smashed in the cop up is in Karen's apartment. Yeah she's like could you not like could you it's like he's intentionally breaking every one of pieces piece of Karen's furniture. The cop shows up and he's like you use me as bait didn't you and he's like I had to catch this guy. There's the throwing her and breaking all of her IKEA furniture. Yeah and I also love like girl he told you that people were after you and you've just walked into your apartment and left your door open. Come on you got to be smarter than that.
33:33Yeah yeah and immediately she was surrounded by vampire familiars which I thought was funny too. I was like okay what is going on in the city. Yeah the whole city is vampires and I do think that like they were after her I guess like they were they told the cop probably like oh she's back yeah go get her because like the cop was like oh my god everybody's been looking for you your co-workers said you were kidnapped like he had it for a second and then he messed it up a bee and like well you don't have to worry about the fact that your co-workers did because you're dead next bitch and then she sprayed him in the face with the garlic and he's like I love that I love that like the garlic that whistle or gave her didn't work and it because it was a familiar it like built on the world but also was a surprise like it's just so fun of course you shouldn't have been as price because it's like bright outside so it makes sense that's a familiar. I was a little disappointed that that's what she used to take out mercury because he didn't say that that's that the spray would blow their heads up and I liked her the the chick vampire in the white. Oh she sprayed her in the mouth at the end with the with the vampire mace and her head exploded.
34:38Oh that's weird. I thought he got her with the the serum or like the new serum not the whatever yeah because she goes after Karen and it's a really sick sequence where Karen is shooting at her and it just shows how fast the vampires are because she's running around the thing and then it's like thing bang bang and she's right in her face yeah okay. And then she sprays her in the mouth and then her head exploded and I was like yeah that's not the same thing that you're you seems like your ETA is supposed to be doing something different than the you know yeah like you could just use the the garlic spray then I guess yeah just injected that why why are you creating some fancy I appreciate the callback of her finally getting to use it on a vampire and she's kept it with her the whole time yeah me too me too that chick was too cool to go out that way yeah she was I really liked again it's just things that they gave us in this movie they didn't have to give us which is like there's that scene where she's arguing with Quinn and yeah and I just like that it's just it doesn't really matter it just shows the sort of infighting and biting nature of it never comes back it doesn't really matter that they don't really like each other that like
35:40she kind of looks down on Quinn and Quinn's mad at her like but it's just builds out the world it makes it all feel more real and it is it there were a number of things that I kept thinking like oh this is going to cause a probably like when the council is so mad at Deacon I thought maybe that was going to be his undoing you know he was going to fly too high and maybe the council was going to turn on him and at the end it's like blades like I'm coming for you but they coming and kind of save him from himself because or like like I was like trying to think you know think through have this this plot would work but there's a lot of things the movie that don't go anywhere but not in a bad way but in this way of like the world just feels bigger than the movie every little thing doesn't have to feed into the final moments you know that scene where they're yelling at each other he's gotten his Quinn had gotten his hand cut off again and that one other vampire was wrapping it and then she bit it and he was like oh you little oh yeah I laughed so hard I forgot that that happened and it was just so like you know this whole time he's like hey use my new girlfriend or
36:42whatever I'll introduce you to Frost that was she's rapid she just bites us they so that I was like oh can you guys just drink off each other I guess that would that solve the Lamagra problem of not having people to drink anymore and then I was like do the squirrels turn into vampires too if it's everything it touches like is everything a vampire now you got vampire deer foxes mooses some movies have some some when universes that definitely happens but I don't know it's not very clear they're super clear with the rules in this one but like yeah it's it is weird like some some some universes it's like if you're bitten by a vampire but they don't drink all your blood you become a vampire but if they drink all your blood you're just dead and then so I was wondering if that was the thing because does that mean that everyone they drink from just becomes a vampire or can they decide to kill them you know what I mean I don't know yeah I don't know it just seems like a bite that's all you need in this one yeah and honestly the way these vampires are living come get me I'm ready I'm ready I thought it was really funny this one scene deconfrost
37:44has a band-aid on his finger and I was like huh what's that from yeah what he's talking to him on the camera yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah it's this band-aid and I was just like I noticed that that's weird that is weird there's a little weird little things um I don't know oh I the the first superhero landing I'm not sure but this movie in the first moments oh I'm talking about oh at the end oh at the end for sure at the end like that it that is like an iconic superhero landing and and and when he lands but at the beginning of the movie he does the jump across the buildings and he does like a nice little like superhero land like she falls into a pit of stuff and he like for shoulder yeah yeah when she when she just look at the shoulder but he jumps from the hospital and lands in a very much a superhero landing I just think it's so much fun we're talking about we're talking about this movie because he appears in Deadpool 3 but in Deadpool 1 we got all that mocking of the superhero landing and like I don't know I'm I'm sure that is
38:47probably depicted that way because it's similar to what's in comics you know but I don't know this is the 90s like I don't I don't know it's just the now it's like the standard way superheroes land and I just think it's neat it looked so good it looks great they can get away with a lot with this because it is I mean they were working on this in 1997 yeah to release it in 1998 and it still looks really really good with a few exceptions it looks great yeah those goddamn skulls come at skull bats coming out of the batsmouth that's a little that was I could have been filmed in like 79 like Jason and the Argonauts are here exactly exactly it's really really shitty CGI it's because it CGI it's such a new technology you mentioned Jurassic Park this is shortly after Jurassic Park and like CGI is just coming on the scene to create like individual creatures another really terrible effect shot which I thought was funny because it reminded me so much of I've been I've been thinking the whole movie how much this reminds me of the Matrix well they do bullet time in this movie yeah once and it's at the time a town yes I think it's because it's daytime it
39:53also looks horrible well yes but the bullets look like cartoons like the bullets could have been straight out of Roger Rabbit or whatever like if they look they look terrible they look juxtaposed on the screen like cartoons and then it's just regular slow motion and he can just dodges you know but it is like a bullet being fired the time slows down and he moves and I just thought it was cool because it's a like so much of the Matrix pulls from this I wonder if I had me wondering like did the wikowski's watch that and go like we can do bullet time like we can figure out how to actually make that shot look good you know someone dodging bullets I think you're right yeah I love that whole scene I love their conversation and when he's like your mascara's running and I love for some reason every time he calls him an idiot it makes me laugh because he says so he's like you're an idiot you know what you're talking about I'm gonna rule the world and you could just be with us but you choose not to idiot yeah and then he throws I'm like little girl where are your parents yeah man
40:54God so many lines I love the when he's watching to see if a familiar familiar will come back and he says if you understand the nature of a thing you know what it's capable of and that's when the familiar comes back yeah just so many like iconic lines he shot him in Chinatown because he was like you're gonna wish they never cut you from your mother and he was like bam bam bam I'm talking about my mom yeah oh dude the freaking um the the number of there's I think there's two main scenes where they're like doing open gun play in the middle of a crowd and daytime like bright outside daytime and they're firing these guns and I was just like what what world are we in again it might have been because there's vampires and ball but like it also just felt like the people I mean people were scrambling and running but like no cops showed up nobody showed up to this fight at all not at all yeah yeah you know we have them getting infiltrated and obviously Deacon and your little crew was going to find your hideout I don't think they were hiding well enough for my uh I think
41:57they should be a little bit more hidden than they were they were very easy to find they torture whistler and then there's that really dramatic scene I was very upset watching that the first time oh me too you know what do you think happens that they undo oh they undo it I mean spoilers I've seen them but I but it's been since the theaters like I don't remember anything from the second third one uh I remember that Ryan Reynolds is in the third one that's about it I hate the third one I can't wait to eat last that with you yeah and I look forward to liking it and then us disagreeing the whole time it's fine it will probably happen but no no yeah I'm sure it can't if like this one's just so iconic and cool um but I I like I'm a I'm a person who like I appreciate the evolution of things being they don't always have to say the same but I know that like it is still rated R right it might not be I'll have to look into it yeah I know that they got there's an unrated version on uh on Amazon like I went to buy this one this morning or rent it or whatever
43:02and uh it it was uh they had a blade Trinity on there and it was like blade Trinity or blade Trinity unrated well should we watch the unrated one uh I mean I'm down maybe maybe you'll enjoy it more I yeah it works for me it's and love it I love me some Dominic Purcell I loved prison break but that that guy just wasn't Dracula to me and oh it's Dracula let's not go too far okay sorry sorry sorry sorry I don't want to spoil and other people might be watching along with us silly let's not let's not spoil well if you watched if you read what the movies about or watch the trailer that's right there sure sure okay yeah and well the second one is Guillermo Dilturo and we're I'm on a kid right now with him and Norman Reedus is it an I I know a lot of people didn't like the second one I loved the second one and that guy we were just talking about we wanted to come back and play the the quick silver the silver surfer he's in it oh oh yeah of course Guillermo Dilturo is making it he's got to be it's so good so I can't wait to watch that cool cool cool yeah I'm definitely gonna I'm I'm excited to watch that that sounds really great like this this world seems ready built for having Guillermo Dilturo take a take a hand at it um
44:09I got a bunch of little notes uh I really like just the lines and stuff I liked oh this is they're a few cheesy I think this movie took a lot from all the all those other movies took a lot from this movie and a lot of it is like hitting your cue at just the right moment and like panning a camera and someone stepping into that camera and going along with music and a lot of there is one moment where they I think they're doing for something like that and it is the silliest shit if you think about it like what's not in the camera and it's when uh they bring Karen back to the base and they say I'm Abraham Whistler and you've met blade and it turns the camera and like she's you see her and you see over there and then blade comes up from the ground oh you didn't see him pop down oh no I get silently drops down because he's a vampire yeah still he's like yeah I gotta go back and watch the drop down I did not see the drop down but it's still like a weird thing where he like he must be like squatting down for a second because the
45:09camera comes into view and then he like stands into the shot in a way that like if she's looking that direction she'd do it still see him but she looks kind of surprised I don't know I just found it really funny they were trying to show us how silent he was oh yeah I did not catch that I am nice I need I need to rewatch this moment it just made me laugh because it looked like he was just like squatting down under the camera until he popped up like boo yeah there's so many little nuances that I do appreciate if you watch the fight when he's the sword fights I think all of the fights are really good they went realistic yeah it is that age old like why is everybody just standing around waiting for one to fight him you should all fight him at the same time but that's fine I saw that they purposely made the henchmen all kind of look alike there was at least three dudes that all had like long but the long ponytails shaved head with beards shaved heads go tease or like here because they were just the same person fighting him over and over oh yeah but that was fine I didn't mind that I thought that all the the choreography of the fights are what really sell this movie and they go into the detail during the deacon and blade fight that you
46:13start to see deacon's shirt being ripped to shreds because he's not dying because he's lemagra and blade is stabbing him and slicing him in all different ways and his shirts actually taking like the damage little stuff like that oh I love it yeah this super cool that the whole like went once he reaches blood god mode is great and there's no way to kill him but again deacon doesn't know about the new hotness the EDTA or whatever you don't know about this week's newest gossip girl you're not on it I say deacon but not anymore as he says in the movie I love that one I love it he whispers it's really creepy as he he's taken on the blood god has like entered him or whatever mercury runs up to him says deacon and he goes not anymore oh it's so good and he's he's completely covered in shadow it's just really creepy and good except his glowing red eyes oh that's right that's right yeah and then immediately followed by him kicking the shit out of blade and he goes look at you you're a little bitch and then he does that crouching
47:19tiger hidden dragon jump at him and then I will say the best line of this entire film is delivered and here's my second f-word when he goes some other fuckers are always is trying to escape uphill isn't that the best line of the movie okay I do what let's talk about it okay what does that line mean to you so as somebody watches a lot of figure skating and winter Olympics people are always trying to do the thing that you can't do you know it is impossible to ice skate uphill so it's because is beating blade fighting uphill or skating uphill I think I think yeah him thinking he's gonna do all this stuff I'm gonna become the blood god I'm gonna stop you I'm gonna take everything over which like from a yeah from a perspective of like I don't know it's it's a it's a weird so for me that line was maybe my least favorite line of the movie that's so funny that you say your favorite I like to get in Deadpool because everybody loves it what what an interesting funny line for him to say at that time yeah yeah it's such a like I like it because it's so weird but then I was like
48:23what does he mean though like his deacon what does that what is the metaphor of deacon skating uphill and I can't like it's it could be just fighting blade it could be trying to become the blood god but who he's talking to is already the blood god right yeah and then it could be like trying to rise from his station because he's like an infected he's not a real vampire and I was like but that kind of sucks because I like that's the one thing that makes you kind of like deacon is that he's the he's the he's the a scrappy guy who's just an infected like ready to throw off the chains of all the all the purebloods right so like that I like that about deacon so if that's what blade saying I'm like blade shut up I just that that line I was like I didn't the line was really cool well said of course as well see some delivers every line really well but that I didn't know what he meant by it I was like I don't know what you mean and it for being the last line after you kill the bad guy I was like I want to understand what you're saying yeah no I just see it as like
49:27people think you know these little these two always think that they're gonna take on great gains kind of thing like you know this person thought you know stand your lane kind of like that line would have made sense to me I don't know like like that you just set a line that has more coherence than what than the other line but I I digress I can see it meaning any of those things but I didn't like that I didn't know what it meant yeah it's funny it made me say it took me out of it because he said it and I was like what's the hill and what's the skate so did you think the same thing when he said it in deadpool to whoever I didn't I don't remember him saying it in deadpool oh you don't okay but I yeah I haven't seen that one in a while so I need to go I need to go back and watch it especially now yeah yeah yeah well I think I'll rewatch it after I watched off well we finished watching all three blades I need to rewatch that one because I know there will be Easter eggs that I didn't catch the first time so we kind of end up there I mean him and Karen stopped everybody as far as we know Whistler is dead and he's like she's like oh I can get you back is the cure that she created won't just help him it will turn him back into a human
50:32so her cure turns you into a human and he's like I'm gonna stop you right there baby I don't want to be a human again I think you need to work on some better serum for me if you want to help me like you keep saying you do so that's what I need you to do and I love that they don't make them a couple there's like there's these little like vibes you do kind of want them to you kind of don't but I love when they don't do that because it just doesn't need to be done they always force a love thing in all heart in all superhero movies there's always this love interest we have to protect this or that and they don't do that in this and I really appreciated it I appreciate it and I liked it because what it did to the beginning of the movie too because his save the cat moment or whatever is he saves her even though Whistler tells him it's dumb he's like you brought almost stray we bring home strays now it's a bummer because he he's sure she's gonna turn but then uh like if it had been romantic for a romantic reason it would have felt like oh he grabbed a pretty lady but we know from the moment he grabs her it's because he reminds her him of her mother
51:32yeah I guess maybe he has memory from a baby because he's a vampire I don't know that it has to be the vampirism yeah anything weird you can just blame on the vampirism uh he has a crush he remembers because he's a vampire yeah yeah so he remembers his own birth and being taken from his mother's arms in that moment and then it from she reminds him of his mother and that's why he takes her like that makes it would have made it weird if then they be him romantic it was nice that he just saved her because like of the memory of his dead mother yeah we breeze past Whistler's whistler's death uh I just thought it was a beautiful scene uh I think it's really really great I like blade has been so strong and unyielding and like I keep mentioning he seems like a more of a silent type than he actually is because he's just like everything he's just so cool all the time and like having that moment where he realizes it he he reaches over and pulls the sheet off of Whistler as Whistler's blood without looking because he can't like I think he just cannot look he's pulling it down but I think he smells he you know he can smell
52:36what's going on so he's like pulling it down and understanding what's going on he doesn't want to look yet and that is really effective and then when he smells what's going on and he can tell he he goes oh and it's just like the most grief that he would express you know what I mean like he's just expressing the most grief that like it feels like blade this like you know titan of like stoicism or whatever like uh can express in that moment like let those feelings out with that that emotion out and it's it's really uh it is really effective uh one syllable grief yeah he lets it out a few times and that's when Karen's like oh you have a lot of love for him don't you and he's like no I'm a man push down yeah and you're like you are full and nobody honey like that's your you know pretty much your daddy let's let's be serious you love him like a father and he loves you like a son but you can keep pretending we all know and that's what makes it even worse at Whistler's request he gives him the gun and then he he asks him to walk away like
53:37walk away walk away and uh he walks away and then you hear the gunshot as blade still completely stone face like he's not crying which can just tell the turmoil going on inside uh it's so good it's really and Whistler didn't want him to have to do it yeah exactly having to do that too exactly he's like I need you I need you to finish me and he's like no and then he realizes he can't either there's like a realization from Whistler and Whistler goes well then walk away walk away you dumb mother like his story is very traumatic like he said that a drifter came knocking on his door and it was a vampire and he was making his family have to pick who died in what order the wife and two daughters and it's very interesting that they ran with where hell they ran with how open he left that story and that's all i'm gonna say about that okay um they also there's a moment right after his death where and i don't feel like this is explained in the movie i may have missed it but there's a plant that we've seen a few times in the uh what is that i don't
54:43know and it but he slices the root off of it after Whistler's death and it was in Whistler's layer and i'm wondering if it was some sort of like i don't know it has a real vibe of there's two things i think of it's like either that was something that like sort of spiritual token of Whistler's and it has a meaning that he's supposed to cut through off i'm wondering if it's like a spiritual practice i don't know about uh he had a whole meditation thing in the corner yes so i do think it's like caring for something and keeping you alive is maybe a connection to keeping his humanity that's kind of how i saw it like this little plant this fragile little thing that needs me to take care of it i'm going to keep it alive and take care of it and then when everything's kind of taken from him at the end he's like this thing yeah oh interesting see i took it as like a part of his grief process and uh i i wasn't sure if it was his plant or Whistler's plant if it's his plant it feels like he's he's kind of giving up on the meditation like we're done with the meditation part it's time to go kill some folks like i i don't need this like silent uh peaceful
55:47part of myself that's going to take care of people i'm i need to go into kill vampire mode but it was just really interesting because they don't explain it at all you're left to like kind of like interpret it but it's very it's a very like poignant scene that's happens right after Whistler's death and right before the big last battle so it's it's meaningful to blade but i have no idea from the movie like what it means for me it kind of also felt like he's not coming back there yeah can't be on the move with this little plant yeah no that's that's a great that's a great interpretation but as i think we've mentioned three or four interpretations no idea and again adds to like the weirdness and depth of the movie that there's these weird things are like i can interpret that a few different ways oh i guess we didn't also kind of bring up the fact that blade's body is with the vampire stuff in him is rejecting the serum so it's not working anymore which is kind of why they needed her to step in to create the new serum and i just like want to know what happens with Karen she's great she cured herself and we'll see if she
56:51pops up in the next one yeah totally we'll see i guess i don't know i was i kept thinking she might end up being a vampire like when they took her i thought it might be a thing where he had to like kill her at the end but she survived and i liked it i liked it too i really like how this ends i was you know there's so so many good points that they hit on of like what a good film is the three acts are really good the drama you feel bad for what's happening you know with Whistler um you kind of see it coming but whatever and then we pop over to Moscow at the end and this scene always makes me laugh because he's like hi biafka and the guy goes and i remember it every time and it makes me laugh every time because he's just got this like vampire yeah and blade tells her keep your cure it's not over there's a war going on like he's he's he's it's it's nice because just like any vampire just like any good vampire in a in a story uh they kind of always want to go
57:54back to being human like that's like part of the the kind of lore of like the the i miss my humanity i hate this thing that i am he just saying like he hates the thing that he is like in that scene where he's talking about uh where Whistler is telling her about his past and he he talks about eating people and all the stuff like he hates he hates himself he hates the thing the monster that he is and in that moment just like any great drama he gets to choose to be who he is at the end and i think that's a really nice uh way to in the movie yeah i love it he sounds it's very much like Louis in um interview with the vampire where all of the vampires in interview with the vampire get a special power uh you know uh list at tom cruise can read minds but Louis got a soul and oh okay so to some vampire like two vampires that is the best gift you could ever have like I could have my soul back but to Louis it's the worst thing ever because because it's hard for you to kill because you have a soul and then when you do you have to like deal with that and that's
58:57where those vampires are very interesting and that's kind of what blade has this also has the soul buffy has angel yeah the character angel which is the same thing uh yes have you seen uh have you seen argue about were you a buffy fan all of it baby all of it love it okay him him as angelus like the whole character is a character who is a terrible violent vampire who was cursed to get a soul back like that was his curse yeah yeah it's really it's a great thing because he's cursed with a soul and then he spends like 200 years torturing himself before he can kind of get it shit together and it's just like a nice and it's just a really a lot of paythos in that story you know we were listening to Florence on the machine on a youtube uh show called genius and she was breaking down one of her songs and it's called one of the greats and she was like I wrote this and it's about buffy when she came back after she died and everybody brought her back and she was like why would you do this to me I was at peace I was and I listen to that song so much and then I could I was like oh my god that's exactly what that song's kind of about that's so great
1:00:02it's very interesting yeah you know I've done obviously I've done that I've made made songs for uh made songs about stuff we did a Star Trek album and and we're still work on the Daredevil album uh but uh but it's just so fun when you find out that these like artists who've like been really successful were making music kind of the same way about yeah it's kind of like a geeky sort of niche thing to do but then you find out like you know oh that lebs a zeppelin song is a bout uh Dare or Tolkien like it's about Lord of the Rings or whatever like oh yeah that's that they're doing the same thing you know it's just they're their fandoms that they loved and their stories that they loved and they're like writing songs about them it's fun um okay uh let's see I have two last notes and they're just silly ones but uh I really liked the in the last fight he rips the throat out of one vampire and throws like oh larynx at another vampire just the silliest thing just this so silly um and I really liked that uh the way they fund like that throughout the third movie he's stealing watches as he's killing these old vampires
1:01:04you gotta do what you gotta do yeah he says like how do you think we fund this organization we're not exactly the march of dimes he's like fake yeah fake ass watch so good it's so good uh man I love it I love this movie and you know thank thankfully this movie did as well as it did and we have a lot to you know we owe a lot to this movie us here at Marvel yep uh yep here Marvel like yeah like we don't we don't work for them but uh here here as Marvel fans and people that love the MCU uh it is a huge reason this all exists this this this this movie and yeah it's just so cool so cool um yeah I love it uh and I'm excited to watch the next two me too I know what and uh I wonder I wonder what I'm sure we'll be talking about this next week but uh I how many years were between them I wonder I don't think it was very long for the first yeah that that happens a lot the first this oh it's 2002 for blade two and then 2004 okay so about four
1:02:12years between each uh four years than two years okay that makes more sense yeah because a lot of time it takes a while you the sequel go in and then once you have a sequel going like we'll keep the franchise going well I don't think that blade two did as well as people expect I know a lot of people don't like it and I'm gonna you know I really do I know a lot of people don't um so I think that that's was kind of where they were like uh what are we gonna do here gosh but then they did it yeah well uh yeah uh I dig it I'm excited to I'm really excited to see the those next two and it'll be interesting how they are informed by like the things that are happening around them because like we said this movie launched a thousand things but then if you by the time blade two comes out it's kind of in the thick of all the marvel stuff you know spider man's out x min is out like how how much is it adapting to those kinds of superhero movies and how much is it like trying to stay this kind of weird horror I have a feeling it's sort of like trends more towards
1:03:12superhero um this one uh oh Guillermo del Toro's I bet states as as weird and horrid oh weird but I think I don't know well this is something I'm sure we'll discuss when blade Trinity gets here I think blade Trinity gets a little more super heroie a little more like that realm I don't know we'll talk about when we get there I guess um my lips are sealed okay your lips are sealed I like it because I don't want to I don't want to be tainted for the next one those those are my those are my remembrances of what these movies are like is that that one's a little more like quickie a little less uh dour that this like the third one the third with Ryan Reynolds is less quickie girl or more no it's a more quickie okay more quickie I think it's less quickie no no no more quickie less dour less uh let's do whatever yeah um uh let's listen at least we get to look at Jessica Beale's abs yeah excited about that all right guys we'll be back uh to the right here you think going on Ash I have some great stuff going on um we over at Bill and Ashley's terror theater
1:04:17are getting to interview Brandon Christensen who is a director of a lot of films that I've seen a lot of horror films especially ones that are uh streaming on shutter he directed z super host stole born the puppet man stranger night of the reaper and we got early access to his new film bodycam from shutter themselves which I still can't really believe and it was all just from like every time we watched something we at somebody on twitter like loved your stuff you know no persons you know we did it to Tom Hall and when grandma is like please not not Spider-Man Tom Hall but like the guy who directed you know uh grandma and um sometimes they say yes and uh Brandon Christensen said yes so shutter sent us uh early screeners of bodycam it comes out on the 13th and we're interviewing him next week so that should be really exciting I can't wait he's been involved in so many things that I've enjoyed um grave adventures or I'm sorry grave encounters
1:05:18strange harvest it's just a lot of if you're a shutter person you know exactly who I'm talking about yeah but look him up I mean I'm very excited and I can't wait to have him on the show that is super cool and I mean like I like like you're saying if you're a shutter person and obviously over there at Bill and Ashley's terror theater you got a lot of shutter people and he's going following Bill and Ashley's terror theater and you're our shutter person we're just a horror person in general you need to be checking it out come see us go check it out go check it out um over on binge is a symbol word finishing up our coverage of scream scream screen screen is coming out to yeah I watch the screen yeah we'll have dueling screams uh on binge is symbol and Bill and Ashley's terror theater check them both out well I'm sure we'll have very different takes there's a bill will probably be very informed over there uh I have a lot of knowledge that I don't have uh well there's a lot of bullshit there's always a lot of bullshit that goes on with these movies coming out and stuff that they did to right right yeah we talked about that with with scream six uh and how that was for as of now final outing and real it's a real bummer uh but uh we talked about that
1:06:23some but yeah there's uh I'm really enjoying the screen movies and I have you seen seven yet I did oh cool well maybe we'll talk to it talk about the left cast um I uh yeah I've enjoyed the entirety of the franchise uh they've been really fun um so uh check that out over on binge is a symbol and uh multiverse news we've got uh the multiverse news and happening so we'll be back soon peace until next time true believers hey you just look into the Marvel Cinematic Universe podcast from stranded panda I really hope you liked it let me just say a big thank you to all of our supporters on patreon.com such MCU cast you are the lifeblood of our little operation here and a huge huge thank you to our insanely generous illuminati tier patrons Walter krisky the third lieutenant bongo and jazz viz you guys are amazing if you'd like to see our beautiful faces you can catch a video version of many of our episodes at youtube.com slash
