Bill Murray Cheers UConn Basketball, Generational Fandom

0:00On March 23, Bill Murray has become a familiar face at Yukon Men's basketball games, especially during March Madness. The actor cheers loudly from behind the bench for the Huskies, supporting his son Luke, who's an assistant coach there. This all kicked off in 2021 when Luke joined Danny Hurley's staff. Bill stuck around for Yukon's back-to-back national titles in 2023 and 2024. The first repeat champ since Florida back in 2006 and 2007. Fans love spotting Bill in the crowd and it's no surprise given Luke's long coaching path. At 40 years old, Luke has worked nearly 20 years in college hoops from graduate assistant at Arizona to stops at Wagner, Towson, Rhode Island, Xavier, and Louisville. Bill showed up for those teams too. Before Yukon loyalty, Bill rooted hard for the University of Illinois where he grew up nearby in Evanston. He caught their 2005 Final Four run and remains a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan from his early days.
