Bibb County Child Abuse Trial Begins

0:00On March 5th, here's the latest out of Birmingham. In Bibb County, Alabama, six out of eight defendants in a shocking child sex abuse case showed up for monthly status hearing this week. They face more than 100 felony charges tied to the alleged abuse of at least 10 children, ages 3 to 15. Two defendants, Andres Trejo, Velasquez and Timothy St. John Jr. skip the hearing. The judge scheduled rule six hearings for all of them on April 6th to keep things moving. Prosecutors claimed the group drug kids and took them to an underground bunker for rape, trafficking, and torture. The case has horrified the community and highlighted major child protection failures. The court plans monthly check-ins until trials kick off in June. Defendants will go to trial and payers, with two cases running at the same time in separate courtrooms aiming to wrap everything up by the end of two, 1026. Trejo Velasquez and William Chase McElroy are set to face court first. Officials say the process is on track, despite the heavy case load.
