Bettman Tours Calgary's New Arena, Impressed

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman took a close look at the construction of Calgary Flames New Arena this week. The $1.2 billion Scotiaplace is shaping up to be the team's future home, with an opening plan for the fall of 2027. He toured the site alongside Deputy Commissioner Bill Daley and Flames ownership. From a distance it might seem like just steel beams sticking up, but Bettman noted a ton of interior work is already underway below ground. Bettman came away really impressed by the planning. The Flames studied other NHL arenas to nail the best layouts, making Scotiaplace twice the size of the current saddle dome, complete with more, bathrooms and fan amenities. The arena is also in the mix to host games at the 2028 World Cup of Hockey. Calgary teamed up with Edmonton on a joint bid, which Bettman described as strong, though no final picks yet.
