BBC Radio Guernsey and BBC Radio Jersey will end their Medium Wave broadcast on March 31st. The stations will keep running on FM, DAB Digital Radio, and the BBC Sounds app, giving listeners plenty of other options. This move comes after the BBC shutdown many local Medium Wave transmitters in 2018 and another batch in 2021. More closures are planned this year for local radio and even radio 5 transmitters. The BBC expects minimal disruption since fewer people tune into Medium Wave these days. They prefer the clearer sound on FM or digital, and keeping the old equipment running costs too much as it's wearing out. Listeners who follow Guernsey State's assembly meetings can still catch them on DAB. The BBC has no plans to pull local radio from FM frequencies and stations remain easy to find on preview, smart speakers, or online.
