A semi-professional basketball player named Roosevelt Aaron Williams Jr. has been sentenced to three years and two months in prison for raping A, female friend, the 23-year-old assaulted the woman who was 21 at the time after a night out in August 2023. Justice Mark Redder handed down the sentence in District Court this week, along with a lifelong violence restraining order. Williams had offered to take the heavily intoxicated victim home that night. Once there, he helped her to bed and then had sex with her while she was in no state to consent. He stopped only when he noticed she was bleeding and left shortly after. The judge made it clear that Williams had betrayed their friendship by prioritizing his own sexual gratification. He described the act as a violation of her body and said Williams treated her without regard for her rights. But her text Williams sent to friends right after where he admitted knowing she was too drunk. The victim woke up the next morning in pain with blood on her sheets and confronted him,

The case went to trial in November 2025, and on the second day, Williams switched his pleaded guilty amid a packed courtroom of supporters from both sides. Williams was on track for a pro basketball career, playing for the Willerton Tigers and studying in the United States before returning to Perth.
