Bailey Wins GOP Nomination for Illinois Governor

0:00On March 18, Darren Bailey has won the Republican primary for Illinois governor, setting up a rematch with Democrat J.B. Pritzker in November. The former state lawmaker from Downstate Zenia took about 53 percent of the vote, with most precincts reporting, beating out three, challengers. Pritzker, the billionaire incumbent seeking a third term, ran unopposed in the Democratic primary after Bailey lost to him by 12 and a half points. Two years ago, Illinois has not elected a Republican governor since the beginning of early this century. Bailey lost his comeback after a heartbreaking family loss last fall, when his son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren died in a helicopter crash. The devout conservative says a higher calling pushed him to fight on for Illinois families. In the U.S. Senate race to replace retiring Democrat Dick Durbin, Republican Don Tracy grabbed the nomination with 40 percent of the vote.
