Baguley Crescent: A Street in Crisis

0:00On March 27, a road called Bagley Cresson between Presswitch and Middleton in Greater Manchester has become a hotspot for serious problems. Local labor MP Christian Wakeford says police officers refuse to patrol it alone because they do not feel safe there. The street face is cost of fly tipping, drug dealing, flooding, squatting, multiple fires, and even an attempted murder. Over the past 12 months, police recorded just 14 crimes, but many residents avoid reporting out of fear. An apartment block was left abandoned after a fire in 2023. And another blaze in May 2025 claimed a life. A burst water main nearby costs flooding for over 5 weeks, a made repair disputes between utility companies and property managers. Long-time residents in their 70s described the last decade as appalling, with dump fridges, mattresses, and worse, turning the area into a notorious mess.
