Backstory to 2 John
In 2 John , the church John is writing to is a church John is worried might be affected by some of the people spreading false ideas about Jesus. So he writes to head things off if possible. He tells them the key things they need to know to spot and resist their false ideas and he instructs them not to welcome any traveling teachers who don’t teach the truth they have received.
