This is Corey, here with your quick two-minute global update. Azerbaijan is pulling its diplomats out of Iran right now for safety reasons. This comes after four Iranian drones crossed into the country's Nakchivan X-Clave on Thursday, injuring four people there. Four minister Jeyhoun Bayramov announced the move during a news conference in Baku on March 6th. President Il Ham Aliyev personally ordered the evacuation of staff from Azerbaijan's embassy in Tehran and its consulate general in Tabriz. Tabriz sits in Iran's northwest, home to a large ethnic Azerbaijanian community, officials say they cannot risk lives amid the rising tensions. Azerbaijan fired back hard at the drone incursion with the president warning of retaliation if it happens again. Meanwhile, Iran denies any involvement in sending those drones over the border. The two nations have a rocky history, strained further by Azerbaijan's strong ties to Israel which Iran strongly opposes.
They share a majority Shiite Muslim population, but Azerbaijan's government stays firmly secular. As of now, the evacuation is underway, and both sides are watching closely for what comes next. No further incidents have been reported yet. Support for this DNN episode comes from our sponsor. Press play. Put your head down. The sound is already there. Thanks O.L. I-SoliPillow.com
