Prime Minister Anthony Albinese, named Anthony Harris, the former head of the Energy Regulator, to lead it. The group will coordinate federal and state efforts on fuel security after a national cabinet meeting. States and territories will each appoint a representative to join Harris under the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Albinese called it a sensible step amid global oil shocks. Stressing Australia is well-prepared and aims to be over-prepared. He noted the federal role in supply and states and distribution. Fuel prices have climbed, with regular unleaded averaging $2.19 a liter in major cities last week, up 49% since. February 20th. Diesel hit over $2.40 a liter.
