Auburn's 1000-Yard Receiver Drought Continues

0:00On March 12th, Auburn Tigers wide receivers have a tough history lately. The team holds the longest streak in Power 4 College Football without a player hitting 1000 receiving yards in a single season. That drought dates back to 1999 when Ronnie Daniels lasted it. No current college student at Auburn has ever seen one of their receivers reach that mark. Close calls have piled up over the years. Jarvan Adams fell just three yards short in 2009 and 37 yards shy during the undefeated national title run in 2010. Sammy Cotes got to 902 yards in 2013's championship year. More recently, Kiandre Labyrinth Smith managed 983 yards in 2024. Fans might wonder why, with all the star recruits like Cam Coleman under Coach Hugh Freeze. Big names came and win, but production never quite hit them milestone. It's longer than droughts of schools like Florida and Georgia, both stuck since 2002. Now, with new head coach Alice Goulish taking over, things look similar for 2026.

1:05Ki receivers like Coleman left in the staff change, and the new group lacks proven 1000 yard seasons. Goulish did help Jalen Hyatt rack up 1,267 yards at Tennessee in 2022 as offensive coordinator. Goulish plans a run heavy attack this year, so the streak probably keeps going. Recruiting could shift that down the road, giving Tiger Span something to watch.
