Asylum Seekers on Trial for Brighton Beach Rape

0:00On April 10th, three asylum seekers from Iran and Egypt are on trial at Hove Crown Court for the alleged rape of a 33-year-old woman on. Brighton Beach, last October 4th, 26-year-old Abdullah Amadi, 25-year-old Ibrahim Al-Shafei, and 20-year-old Karin Al-Dhan Asert, face rape charges with Al-Dhan Asert, also accused of sharing videos of the incident. Amadi took the stand and described being disgusted when Al-Dhan Asert grabbed the woman's face and spat in her mouth during what he called, consensual. Sex behind a beach check. He said he pushed his friend, called him an animal, and swore at him for the unacceptable behavior. Amadi claimed the woman approached them after a nightclub, kissed them, grabbed their genitals, and led them to the beach suggesting group sex. He testified she later kissed and cuddled Al-Shafei on a bench consensually and even said goodbye with kisses before they left. Prosecutors painted a different picture, saying the woman was too drunk to stand after leaving the club around 5 a.m., and the men targeted her.

The men, who arrived in the UK by small boat and stated in a silent hotel in Horsham, deny all charges. With testimony wrapping up, the jury weighs these clashing accounts as the trial pushes forward.
