This tax-free benefit pays out every four weeks, with the lower rate at £295.60 and the higher rate at £400.41, £40.00. It is not affected by savings or income, and arthritis accounts for 35% of all 1.7 million claimants. Arthritis covers a range of joint issues causing pain, stiffness, and swelling, affecting around 20 million people in the country. The allowance helps cover extra costs, for those needing help with daily tasks, like dressing, eating, or staying safe, even without a carer. It also applies to mental health conditions, learning difficulties, or sensory impairments if supervision is needed day or night. Claimants can use the money for taxis, bills, or home help to stay independent longer, and they might boost other benefits like pension credit.
