It's new Recreation Center project. Someone pretending to be from fighty construction, tricked city staff into sending the payment to the wrong account, but officials caught it quickly. During an internal check, no personal data or other city information was touched, and it was just this one transaction with no wider breach. Now multiple agencies are on the case, including the local police, Alabama law enforcement agency, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and Secret Service. The city is teaming up with banks to try recovering the money, has added new security steps, and note similar scams have hit other towns lately, possibly from overseas.
