Apex Data Center Project Scrapped Amid Opposition

Natelli investments withdrew its annexation and rezoning requests for the 250 megawatt New Hill digital campus on about 100, 90 acres along Sheeran Harris Road. The move comes as the town waste changes to its zoning rules that would allow data centers inside city limits. Natelli says it will watch those discussions and decide later if pursuing something similar makes sense. Local residents and leaders voice strong opposition over months of town meetings. They raise worries about environmental harm, job losses, and who would foot the bill for roads and other upgrades near the nuclear plant. Council members thanked advocates and experts for helping them understand the risks. One leader plans to propose a one-year hold on new data center permits starting next week, giving time to tighten development rules. Federal and county officials also came out against it, stressing protection for the community.
