Anchorage Election: Vote Now, Avoid Delays

0:00On this March 17th in Anchorage, here's what is making headlines. Ballots for the Anchorage Municipal Election started going out to voters on Tuesday, March 17th. On April 7th, people will vote on six Anchorage assembly seats, two at large Anchorage school board spots, and some municipal bonds, including A, one-time tax levy for the schools. Registration closed on March 8th, so now it's all about getting those votes in. Expect your ballot packet to take about a week to arrive. Travelers have until 5 p.m. on March 31st to update their address for delivery, and there's a secure online portal option if pre-approved. Voters mark choices with a black or blue pen. Slide the ballot into the secrecy sleeve, then the return envelope, and sign the declaration that's A. Must. All envelopes need a postmark by election day, or be dropped at a secure box or vote center by 8 p.m. on April 7th.

1:05Officials are urging early returns because of U.S. Postal Service changes. Postmarks now happen at the regional facility, which could add a few days delay. Go inside a post office for a manual postmark, or use one of the 18 secure draw boxes around town. There's an interactive map online.
