Alaska Rig Cleanup: Progress & Safety

Nearly two months after a drilling rig got damaged during a move on Alaska's western north slope, crews from Dooyan drilling are making steady progress on cleanup. The incident happened on January 23rd, and now most of the rig structure has been taken off the tundra. Right now there in the second phase of a three-part response, focused on taking apart the rig, removing fluids and debris, and hauling salvage. Away. That includes decontaminating 135 gallons of hydraulic oil from a damaged tank, all contained within the rig with no spills into the area. Teens have been closely watching the site, and so far there's no risk to nearby communities, infrastructure, air quality, water sources, wildlife, or anything else around there. Phase one wrapped up with initial containment and planning, while phase three will handle final cleanup, remediation, and checks through springs. Check up plus a summer visit to assess everything.
