Organizers expect more than 5,000 athletes from across the state to compete in nearly 30 Olympic-style sports. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, this event offers chances in everything from track and field to powerlifting. Earlier this week, details emerged on the opening ceremony at Legacy Arena in Birmingham on Friday, June 12th. It's free for everyone to attend, featuring high-energy, celebrations, and scholarship drawings. The games started in 1982 by the United States Olympic Committee now run under the Alabama Sports Festival Foundation as part of a National Network. These games go beyond sports, focusing on building leadership and healthy habits. Since 1993, they've awarded over $450,000 in scholarships to athletes.
