Alabama Senate Pauses Solar Power Projects

The Alabama Senate put off a vote this week on a bill that would pause new solar power projects for one year. Sponsored by Republican State Senator Greg Albertan from Atmore, the measure aims to halt construction and operation of fresh solar facilities across the state. Albertan stressed last week in committee that the moratorium would not touch projects already underway. He pushed the idea as a needed break to review the fast growth in solar development. Democrats filibustered earlier bills on Tuesday night, dragging out the session and leading to the delay. Hours of debate left little room for this one to move forward right away. On the Senate floor, Albertan called it a key issue for South Alabama, but agreed to carry the bill over under the circumstances. That means no vote for now.
