Welcome to AI Assembled, the top AI news for small business.
I'm Chris Daley, and each week I bring you the most important AI developments
that can transform your business. Let's dive into this week's top stories.
Story One. Open AI launched GPT 5.5 on April 23rd,
calling it their smartest frontier model yet for professional work.
It's now rolling out to chat GPT users with significant gains in coding,
research, and complex data analysis. For SMBs, this means better automation of multi-step tasks
like financial analysis, contract review, and market research, all without upgrading your
subscription tier. More at OpenAI.com slash GPT 5.5. Story Two. Open AI also launched chat GPT
for clinicians on April 22nd, free for verified US physicians, nurse practitioners, physician
assistants, and pharmacists. It synthesizes medical evidence, drafts clinical notes, and answers
questions with cited sources. For independent medical practices and clinics,
this is a free HIPAA-aware AI assistant that can dramatically cut documentation time.

with major improvements in coding, image handling, and long-running autonomous work.
They also launched Claude Design, a new tool for creating prototypes, slides,
and visual assets in minutes. SMBs can now skip expensive design tools for early-stage marketing
and product mockups. Details at anthropic.com. Story Four. At Google Cloud Next on April 24th,
Google announced major SMB-focused upgrades. Gemini is now embedded across Gmail, Docs,
and Drive in Google Workspace, giving tens of millions of small business customers immediate,
low-friction AI access. The strategy is clear. AI capabilities arrive automatically. No separate
purchase or implementation required. Coverage at SiliconANGLE. Story Five.
Vodafone Business announced a major partnership with Google Cloud on April 22nd, bundling
agentic AI capabilities and cybersecurity for small business customers. This is a significant
trend. Telecom and infrastructure providers are becoming AI distribution channels.
Watch for similar bundles from Verizon, AT&T, and regional carriers. SMBs should ask their
existing vendors what AI is included before buying standalone tools. Press release at Google Cloud
Press Corner. Story Six. Sales Force rolled out a major AI upgrade for Slack in early April,
embedding agentic capabilities directly into team workflows.
The new tools can summarize threads, draft replies, and execute multi-step tasks without leaving Slack.
For SMBs running on Slack, this turns your communication tool into a productivity platform.
Coverage at Forbes quicker better tech. Story Seven. Deloitte's 2026 State of AI report
shows agentic AI is scaling faster than guardrails. 74% of companies plan to deploy
agentic AI within two years, but only 21% have a mature governance model for autonomous agents.
The SMB lesson. Define what your AI agents can and cannot do in writing before you deploy them.
Report at Deloitte.com.
Story Eight. Automation Atlas Research shows 51% of companies have now deployed AI agents in
production, up dramatically from earlier this year. But here's the warning. 74% of AI games are
going to just 20% of companies. The winners are investing in clean data, defined use cases,
and team training. The losers are buying tools and hoping. Source AI and 60 weekly briefing.
Story Nine. Microsoft's co-pilot co-work went live in the frontier program on March 30th,
with broader availability rolling out through April. Built in collaboration with Anthropic,
co-work moves Microsoft 365 co-pilot from prompt and response to long running multi-step task
execution across word, excel, outlook, and teams. One co-pilot license can now run a complete
client proposal from research to delivery. Microsoft 365 blog has the details.
Story Ten. Forbes reported a critical SMB risk. 25% of US taxpayers used AI chat bots to help
prepare their 2026 taxes. The problem is hallucinated tax advice, creating audit exposure and
incorrect filings. SMB take away. AI is a starting point for tax research, not a replacement for a
qualified CPA. Document any AI-assisted tax decisions and have a professional verify before
filing. Coverage at Forbes. Your 30-day action plan. Step 1. Test GPT 5.5 or Claude Opus 4.7
on one complex task you previously avoided. Step 2. Audit your Google workspace or Microsoft
365 setup to find AI you already pay for, but aren't using. Step 3. Define written guardrails
for any AI agents you deploy. Step 4. Ask your telecom and software vendors what AI is bundled in
your existing contracts. Step 5. Have a human verify any AI-generated tax, legal, or financial
output before action. That's your weekly brief. Ten stories. Five actions. 30 days.
