Actor John Alford Dies in Prison After Conviction

0:00This is Corey, keeping Lester in the know. You're listening to Lester News today. Former actor John Alfred has died at age 54 while serving time in a Norfolk prison. He passed away just weeks after a court convicted him of sexually abusing two teenage girls during a sleepover. The assault happened over Easter holidays with a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old. A jury at St. Albans Crown Court took more than 13 hours to find him guilty on all charges after a week-long trial. Alfred first gained notice playing a teen role on the BBC show Grange Hill starting at age 13. He later starred as a firefighter on London's burning through most of the 1990s, helping draw huge audiences. Prison staff found him unresponsive in his cell at H&P Bore during morning checks on March 13th. They first thought he was asleep but got no response when trying to wake him. His career also included a brief run in pop music with three top 30 hits and a spot on top of the pops. Officials have not yet shared the calls of death.
