1:02A little later on the show. And this, this can't down and cuff, by the way. It's going to talk college hoops with us. And some soccer with us too, a little later on. This right here can't be true. What I'm looking at right here. Ladies and gentlemen, we hope we believe that in about a half an hour, Super Bowl 17 MVP John Rickens will be joining the show. Yep. Now that might not be exciting to you. But to me, this is like, I don't know what they, I don't know what the equivalent is for anybody else. It's like seeing that imagine going to sleep as a little boy and above your bed is a black and white of this guy, breaking off from Don McNeil to glory in Super Bowl 17 when you're a, I think I was a teenager, I'm 14 years old. I'll pump for you, man. Oh my god. I can't remember how excited you were when we got Thysman on for the first time. This is Thysman on stage. Yeah, this is, yeah, this is next level. This is Thysman on stairs. I hope he shows up. I hope he shows up. Me too. He's close. The reason he's coming on is not necessarily primarily to discuss Super Bowl 60. They'll try to cook some opinion from him on that.

2:03But he is, uh, he's selling his stuff, man. Yep. He's selling his Super Bowl ring, his Super Bowl jersey. Bro, I would pay for it. It's going to be made. It's probably six figures, though, for the jersey. I'll bid on it right here right now. It's all surprises yesterday. I was like, this is, this is got Gil all over it. He says he's the most, uh, we had this discussion off area yesterday. I think he's the most beloved sports figure in the history of the DMV, the district Maryland Virginia. Yeah. But, you know, we can debate that. All right. We got to, we got to, before we do anything else, we got to talk about these status badges. Okay. Let's just talk about the one that just finished, which I, which timed out beautifully with me, butting up my shirt right before I got in the car to come here. No vac a joke of itch. He of the 24 Grand Slam Finals. Beats Yonic Sinner in five sets in over four hours, which, by the way, again, turns out to be the Lamar of the two matches. Let me just point that out. No vac joke of itch, who is seeking his 25th. Remember, he is, he's had the most of all men.

3:04Um, Rafa Nadal had 22 slams. No vac joke of itch. Excuse me. Roger Federer had 20 slams. No vacs sitting on 24. He's tied. I guess you would call it tie across, uh, cross gender lines with Margaret Court, who has 24. No vacs seeking the amazing 25th at age 38. He's a big dog against center, the number one player in the world. And, uh, Yonic Sinner, um, loses sets two and four. They go to a deciding fifth set into the fifth set. Sinner is two of ten in break points, two of ten. He goes 0 for eight in break points in the fifth and final set, including. Wow. Oh, for three in a triple break situation. At four to three in the set. No vac ends up winning it on his third match point. By the way, I thought no vac was going to gack it because on his second match point, he had a clear shot to win it. He had to write the center, bail it back. But no vac joke of itch wins it. Sinner goes two of 18 on break points.

4:04So let's review how no vac joke of itch got here. The last three matches. Yakuomensik retired before the match even started. He withdrew. So no vac got a buy in the round of 16. Then our guy, Lorenzo Musetti, was up two sets to none on no vac before his leg injury happened. So no vac without winning a set, advanced to the semi-finals. So, and now he faces, now he faces center and Sinner goes two of 18 on break points. Now I was admittedly the coma for most of this match. And it was showering getting ready for this. So I didn't see the nature of those two of 18. I don't know if it was mainly Sinner just not being able to get over the hump or no vac was the guy who was so good on those break points. I don't know the nature of that. But two of 18 on break points is off the charts ridiculous. Yeah. That's a big number. Oh my god. So no vac. What an upset. So you know how Drew said the the men's tournament doesn't start till February 1st. Yeah, it did. It started yesterday. What a liar.

5:04What a liar. That didn't sick. Gotta watch out. And that ladies of gentlemen was the second best match of the evening. Because the one before that between Carlos Alcaraz and Sasha's verif put that one to shame. This one again, I said it was four plus hours. Five hours and 27 minutes. So let me just say, I had a long day yesterday. I did the show that I did the podcast. Yeah. Right. And you know, I went to my real job and I taught everybody how to ducky the rest of the day. So I was very exhausted. Right. That's what I do. So I, of course, like an old man that I am, I fall asleep on the couch. So I miss like the first set of the Alcaraz verif match. Because I'm a sleep on the couch. It's watching me. Six four Alcaraz wins the first set. And then like second set, I kind of wake up. I'm like, oh, wow. Sasha's verif. Sasha's verif is up to five to two. Or as John McEnroe pronounces his name, Sasha is a verif. It's not three syllables, John. It's just two. It's verif.

6:04Anyway. So it's five, two. I kind of nod off. I'm like, oh, wow. Zach, Zach Cohen, our buddy Zach Cohen is going to win his bet that each player wins a set. Right. Then it was going to go three plus. Well, no. Because then I sort of, right, I wake up to, oh, man. Alcaraz is going to win this tiebreaker. And sure enough, he came back. He broke back. He won the tiebreaker. So it's two sets to nothing. Alcaraz, you figure, oh, well, this is going to be a short, a short day. Right. By the way, the first set took 40 minutes. The second set took 78 minutes. But you figure, okay, you know, this will be, oh, this will be good. Now, Alcaraz did start to cramp a little at the end of the second set. An unbeknownst to us as the third set moved along. At three to two, he vomited into his, into his towel. Not once but twice. We only learned this later when they caught footage of it when they caught him talking to his, to his box. So he started vomiting in this weather. So Alcaraz, this is like who set you all over again, but in a different way. You're like, is this, is this really going to happen?

7:06And I had no pre-flop wagers on either of these two matches. And nothing going, I thought it was going to be a non-bedding night for me. So third set that he's leading, you know, but they're still going on. Four to three. Now he starts to get his quad massaged. And it's very of his losing his mind because he's like, oh, is it real injury? He shouldn't, if it's just a, if it's just a crap, you shouldn't be able to have it right. He's going crazy. He's like, first you do it with center. He's, he's going nuts. Um, anyway, Alcaraz's mobility is reducing dramatically at this point. And you're like, oh, my God, this tournament is bananas on this. So then it's very of his serving four or five. Because you know, Alcaraz is still doing this thing where he can't move. When the ball comes when we just slaps at it and he like hits winners. So he comes to two points away from winning at four or five, but he can't get there. Then at five six, there is very of serving love 30. He's two points away from winning, winning it again at 15 30. He misses a easy four in. I could have given him two match points. This Vera comes back, right? And wins that set.

8:08Seven to six. And at this point, you're like, oh, man, like Carlos is hurting. This, this may not happen. Like Sasha's Vera could get to the final and knock out Alcaraz. So the fourth set happens. This Vera wins the first game on his, on his first serve, right? It's one love. The Alcaraz takes two steps towards the net, which is sort of a universal tennis indicator of, oh, he's about to quit. He's about to concede. In fact, Patrick Macaro stops himself in the middle of a sentence. It goes, oh, and then Carl, it looks like. And then Carlos decides. You could see almost his brain spinning. He decides, yeah, I'm just going to go to my bench. Like he almost decided in real time. If I just stay out here long enough, maybe this subsides, maybe these cramps subside. So at this point, you know, Alcaraz, I go to bookmaker to see if there's a price on Alcaraz. Because Alcar, I'm like, oh, he's, he's trying to win this. But bookmaker doesn't have it up. They have the game off the board. But it's a couple of outs like had Alcaraz plus 153, then a little later on since plus 118.

9:12So I made like little bets just for those two numbers. This is after the third set. This is during the fourth set, right? But they're just on serve in the fourth set. Right. And as the set goes on, Alcaraz starts to gain back his powers. Not quite fully, but gain back his powers and shade covers the entire court now. So it's getting cooler. So it's like, oh, you know how they had to, they had to take a center off the court when the heat index index got to a five. We were down to a one at this point. So there was no problems anymore. Alcaraz is gaining power again, like it's a video game. Bookmaker goes up now. I'm seeing this. I'm like, all right. Alcaraz minus 145 bang. Alcaraz minus 135. Later in the set, I even played Alcaraz minus 171. I'm like, oh, I'm a genius. It's going to work out. Right? They just keep holding serve though. Zverev never flinches. They go to a tie breakers. Zverev wins again. We go to a fifth set. And then the fifth set. Alcaraz immediately gets a broken. And I'm like, oh, no, I'm stuck in a match that I had no prefrontal.

10:13Right? Like this is terrible. And every time Zverev consolidated a two-loved, you go two to one. Alcaraz had two break points. He's at full Carlitos strength now. He's even had one of the best gets of his career. Like he's just flying all over the court now. But he can't break him. Three to one. Back to three to two. I check bookmaker again at this point. This is 117 in the morning Pacific now. Carlos, just down one break is plus 204. I'm like, at this point, I'm like, oh, there's no way this should be plus 204. Bang it again. Plus 204. I'm just like I'm going for broke on this. He can't break him again. Four to two. Four to three. Another two break points. Can't break. Five to three. Zverev is a game away. Five to four. And then just in the nick of time. Alcaraz breaks him. The opposite of this center match. Five, five. He holds serve. It's six, five Carlitos. Then Duce. Zverev forehand wide. Match point. Carlitos. Rock it into. It goes at the net. He hits it back into the net.

11:13Ball game. Game. Set. Match. Carlos. Goes to the ground as if he's won the tournament. Just like Novak went to his knees as if he's won the tournament. No one ever does this in semis, by the way. And Carlos Alcaraz in five hours in 27 minutes. The third longest match in Australian Open History. And maybe I got lucky. Or maybe I'm just that smart. No one at Carlos is going to get it done in the end. You be the judge. I know I'm judging myself right now. It ends up being a massive match. And now we have Jokovic and Alcaraz in the finals. In two of the greatest semis. Two of the greatest matches you'll ever see. In tennis. Phenomenal. Coming back on a numbers game. You're here because you want an edge. 19:27175 on that. No chance. I wouldn't either. I think the Patriots do get interesting here. I think we've, we've heard a couple things about people betting, trade on, uh, trade beyond Henderson, like a long rushing props and stuff. Right. You know, if he, because he had a couple games this year where he busted out with big, two games. So use those as an example, right? I think if I, I'm just saying if I were someone betting some of those Henderson props, I'd be sprinkling in this market to a 25 to one, right? If you think he's going to rip off a 60 yard run or something like that, I think it's worth playing into this. I don't know that we see a massive running, running game out of either side in this, right? Like we talked about this a little bit earlier in the week. Yes, I think Seattle will look to find that early and obviously Patriots would love to do that too. I have a feeling, Jerry. He bet that over on May rushing yards, I think May is involved heavily in this running game come next Sunday. So six to one is probably fairish skill, but I don't know if that intrigues me a little bit. Drake May most Russian. Yeah. Six to one. I know on that. Wow. Would you do if this was a, if this was a game in the middle, let's do this exercise.

20:29This was a game in a middle of a Sunday morning with 10 other games and they happen to put a props. Would you bet it? No, no, no. No, probably not. This is the, this is the other thing I'll add on like the Super Bowl props because I know we're going to have this conversation a lot over the next two weeks, right? There is the NFL for me and I can't speak for everybody, right? Like we often ask that question. I think it's very fair to ask. The NFL does change for me once we get in the playoffs, right? Like I don't have as many games that I'm looking through. So like, I've got a little bit more time to focus on props. It happens to me in the NBA playoffs, too. Like I don't bet as much player props during the season, yet the playoffs allows me a little bit more time. End of the day, better than what a week 14, you know, betting the NFL will be, maybe it's a wash, maybe not, you know what I mean? But yeah, at least it allows me to focus in more, do the homework and hopefully take away some lessons just from that. We try to say everything in two weeks leading up to Super Bowl. I just thought of something I haven't said yet this week, which I always say every year. What is the Super Bowl prop that flumics is the public the most year after year after year? Let's put up a prop that says, will a team score three times in a row, excluding extra points,

21:34two point conversions, will a team score three times in a row? And the casual better, the average better's instinct is say, no, he's the best team in the AFC, the best team in the NFC scoring three times in a row is probably unlikely, right? And then they look at the number and they say, the yes is heavily juiced. My God, I should absolutely take the know it's plus money. It happens all the time. That's the prop that always gets people, you know, it was the funniest about that. You do a great job of bringing that up every single year, the, I definitely like raised my hand. I remember back, you know, 20 years ago, I went after you'd first like, you know, betting this stuff and be like, oh, yeah, that's got to be missed for everybody's first reaction. I remember being my first reaction back in the day, too, yeah, most, uh, most receiving yards is that the next one? Yeah, most receiving yard. JSN, Jackson Smith and Jigbo minus 185, everybody else eight to one or longer, I think that's right, too, though. This one. This one's way tougher for me to look at one of the dogs, right? Like JSN, all he's done, all season, we've said this is the beginning of the season, he's

22:35the only guy there. He still gets targeted all the time and has massive games. There's no Marvin Mims junior home run hitter here. I mean, I guess you could, you could talk yourself into Rashid Shaheed, but really we've seen it just as much as a, as a returner and a rusher as we have as a receiver, right? And that, yeah, and that's another one. I don't, I would not bet 22 to one here. I'd rather have 25 to one on a Super Bowl MVP. Agree. Agree. That's the thing, right? Always look at which market suits your conviction the most, which uh, is commensurate with your conviction for the best bang for your buck. All right. I'll try to be an adult. He led the NFL in rushing in 1983 and 1984 as a 34 and 35 year old respectively, uh, for my money, the, the, the most civic treasure, the greatest or most beloved. Let's call it that the most beloved athlete in Washington, DC, the DMV as the kids call it out history, pro football, Hall of Famer, John Riggins on the show today, courtesy to progressive gaslight. How you doing, John? Nice to meet you. I am fine. Gil, thanks for that introduction, but, you know, I am a showman. That's who I am. I just happened to my medium was football, but that's why you say what you say, but I appreciate very much, very kind, although I don't think some of your rushing statistics were correct. I never led the league in rushing and I had 11,000 and some change yards actually rushing

24:44and 13,000 over all yards. I just like to correct people, but I felt like we don't want to do any false advertising. I left out the word touchdowns. You led the league in rushing touchdowns in 1984, that's true. That's true. That's true. Sorry. I didn't want to misrepresent that. That's very nice of you too. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. The record. So we even set off air. I was like, I don't know. Do I call you Mr. Riggins? Do I hear you say? Yeah. Just call me Rigo as well or John, whatever. So I appreciate that. Um, let's, let me just start with this. I was also going to say that I was going to tell you about the actual action of the National Football League auction. Once again, collaborating was Super Bowl 60 to host the 18th annual live auction event in San Francisco. Obviously the Bay area is the site of the Super Bowl Super Bowl actually in Santa Clara. The auction is going to feature over 700 football related items, including the personal connection collection that is yours. You have decided to auction off among other things. You're Super Bowl ring from Super Bowl 17 and a Super Bowl game worn Jersey as well. A why did you decide to do this?

25:46Well, that's a big question. I, you know, I don't want to get defensive or anything, but he could also ask the question, why not? Truthfully, it comes down to this skill. And I'm going to tell you a story and I think we got plenty of time for that. And we, we talked about it off camera here at a little while ago. The game that we played down at RFK against the Minnesota Vikings during that Super Bowl run of 1982 slash 83. I had a, I had a, you know, a good game. But it all started in 1971 at Shay Stadium in New York City. And what had happened is an early in the season, my rookie year, Joe Nameth had gotten injured in a exhibition game down in Tampa, Florida. And so he was out basically. They didn't know how long, but it was going to be a good while. He was out seven, eight, nine weeks injured his name. So we're playing in San Francisco 49 is there probably late October, early November. And the two quarterbacks that were, Nameth was on the bench that day.

26:48And he was going to play the following week. But what happened was is that the two quarterbacks, the first and the second team quarterbacks went down. So Joe had to come into the game and it was probably, it was the second half. It was in the third quarter. Probably early on. And I got to tell you something, deal. It's still I get goose bumps when I tell this story that when Nameth came into the game, those Shay Stadium fans at Shay Stadium, they gave him an ovation, a standing ovation that it seemed like it lasted for 30 minutes to be honest with you. And probably in reality, it was 30 seconds to a minute, maybe a minute and a half, maybe even two minutes. I don't know, but I closed my eyes in the huddle and pretended it was for me. And I got to tell you, there is no better PED than than the fans. And that's where this all gets back to because then fast forward 10 years, RFK,

27:49and I come off the field and I got the same thing. And for me, it was real. In other words, I didn't have to pretend anymore. And you know, I took the bow. I didn't know what else to do. I was like, well, I think this is what a performer does, a showman. And it was just such a great moment. And I've had these mementos, but that is what is my treasure. That's what I will always remember. And the actual objects themselves, they have meaning, I've enjoyed them very much. I've enjoyed wearing the rings when I go out in public. I have my wife works in the US, Owen, I'm around a lot of four star generals and a lot of, you know, higher up type people on the food chain. So I have to wear my bling to keep up with all the metal. So, but, you know, I think I can adjust to the life without that. But that's what it's all about. It's given back to the fans because without fans, there is no game. And there was a player. It was a pretty good player here years ago that said he'd play, he'd play the game, you know, if there was nobody in the stadium.

28:51And I thought, T, that would not interest me in the lease. Because they're, they're the reason you're there, at least for me, it was. And like I said, I was never a very good practice player. It's kind of like Alan, Alan Iverson, I guess, practice, practice. You mean, practice, but at the same time, if you put me down in front of 60, 70,000 people at RFK, the adrenaline, whatever it was that I got, I mean, I'm from an ordinary, I went to above average, you might say. So I know that was a long, winded way of answering your question. I hope I've done it as it's a, it's actually a beautiful sentiment because that I can speak personally to this. I was in section 309. You bowed right in front of me. This is, this is the Minnesota playoff game after the 1982 season. So for those who have a certain age, you know, this, I'll repeat it for those who may not know. The 1982 season was a strike year. So there were four, the format, they rejiggered the format. There were, you ended up having to win four games to win the Super Bowl.

29:53There were three playoff games, the skins play Detroit, Minnesota, and Dallas in that order. The Minnesota game is where you had the most yards over 180 yards rushing. And John bowed to both sides of the field afterwards. We were going ballistic in the stadium. It was just unbelievable. The next week, my favorite game of all time and it's the game that it's, it's my happiest moment of childhood. So I know what you mean from your perspective, it must be, you know, my perspective is, is this little spec of a, you know, of a perspective on it. Yours is the, is the colossal one. So I can, I can really, it resonates with me. And obviously then Super Bowl 17, the famous fourth and one where you shed Don McNeil on your way into the end zone. Do you remember what you were thinking at that moment before the play called? Cash in tickets is what it's all about. And I think everybody on the Dolphins knows what's going to happen to ask it. Everybody watching on TV, the only question was, am I going left or am I going right?

30:53And it's kind of an interesting, it was an interesting scenario because Clint Didier had come into the game number 86 in the announcer. You know, he says, now playing, because I think Donnie Warren got injured and he had go out. He says, now coming into the game, Clint Didier, and of course. Cash in tickets is what it's all about. I'll hear. So that kind of started the whole thing off. And of course, Joe, he called the play and then I mean, I've said this and I'll say it again. My life always kicks me in a shin when I do. But you know, if I wouldn't have scored that touchdown, I'm going to make the first down. That wouldn't end down. But I scored that touchdown. When I got to the sidelines, Gibbs could have summarily fired me right in the spot. If I hadn't been getting the first down, you should have got a touchdown. You should have got it. I mean, but it was a great, great moment for sure.

31:54Yeah. But if I could, if I could, I was going to say if I could just rewind for a second, when I came into the league, all I ever really wanted to do was play in a Super Bowl. Just playing a Super Bowl. I didn't worry about the outcome. So when we be going back to this Dallas game, and of course, the Minnesota game was the prelude to that. And that's when the, that's when I actually thought on the field, I got panicky. It seemed like an earthquake. Those fans were rocking the stands so much I said, somebody's going to get hurt here. This isn't going to end well. So then you bring in the cowboys. Now you're playing the cowboys, the cowboys at RFK. And everybody in the league had a serious distaste for the cowboys. When 79, I think they came out with America's team. So, you know, and they were, you got to give them their due. They, they were an excellent franchise. There's no quite if you beat the cowboys, you felt like you accomplished something. But when they came into RFK, the fans were waiting for them as you recall. And the stands were doing the same thing.

32:54And I was comfortable with the fact of how that was going to go. But now here I was, one game away from the one thing. My one thing that I thought a fairly modest goal was to get to play in the Super Bowl. And of course, after that game when I, you know, I was like, I realized that's what we'd done. And as they say, you know, I guess that the, you know, the Super Bowl was just icing on the cake. Because, you know, my dream had been fulfilled at that point. And obviously it just got better. John, I cannot thank you enough. I think those are some beautiful sentiments again. How you, how you relate to what your treasured memories are. They play Arsenal in the lead cup on Tuesday. So this is kind of a classic sandwich game. And West Ham, even though they're pretty firmly in the relegation zone, they've won a couple in a row over Tottenham and Sunderland and look pretty good doing it. I've been good on the counter attack. The test for Nanda has been playing really well in the midfield. So plus 155, I like the double chance here for West Ham. Okay. And then Liverpool and Newcastle. Oh, over three and a half goals. You're going for this one. Going for this one. Plus 155 here. Also, this is a lot about the lineups that we're going to see. Both teams are a mess injury-wise.
