About this episode
This week we talk reboots, remakes, and why Hollywood keeps reopening stories that already had an ending.
From Top Gun getting it right to Jurassic Park, Karate Kid, and the growing list of revived shows like Scrubs (and the potential of a Knight Rider..wha???) and other 80s/90s TV favorites, we ask why some reboots work while others feel completely unnecessary.
At what point does bringing something back honor the original… and when does it just feel like Hollywood ran out of ideas?

00This is Tree Forts of Mixapes, where two Gen X guys race on Saturday morning cartoons and bad advice attempt to make sense of today's world. Sometimes we look back, mostly we look around. I'm Josh and he's Brett. Welcome to the Tree Forts. Well, top of the morning to you Brett, still got my first cup of coffee here, so I monster that I this is a new flavor that at least I don't know if it's new, but it's I knew when I saw some. Okay, it's like a melon. But not like watermelon, like cantaloupe, maybe. Cantaloupe flavored energy drink. Obviously completely natural flavors. There's no chemicals in there. Let's talk about your coffee for a second. Let's start throwing stones and talk about my coffee. This is natural grown out of the ground and hot water. My own labor that are out in the field like oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. I I
04visited coffee plantations and and with like herbicides and stuff so that the beans don't like rot and so bro I don't drink Folgers. I drink the real stuff. Folgers maybe. I'm not a coffee drinker for for religious reasons yet. I'm a coffee drinker because I think comes awesome. Yeah, it's got a great taste. I enjoy it. I don't do it as much for the the pick me up these days, although I'm sure it helps. I just it's part of my routine. I enjoy it. I enjoy it. And you actually are kidding yourself. You think it's enough to pick me up because the the days that you don't it's a noticeable. There's a book called caffeine. Did I ever refer to this one to you? I don't think so. Oh buddy, it's a great listen. I really yeah. Again, caffeine. I mean we're hard coffee readers but this one's one you need to listen to. Okay. Get it. Okay. It'll blow your mind in terms of what caffeine basically i.e. coffee has done to the world. It basically said the world didn't start officially really taking
06shape. The the renaissance, the industrial resolution until coffee. Because before that we would just medicate with beer and ale. And so like the world and that and that's a downer right? That's just like it's it doesn't get people it gets people up for a little bit but ultimately it makes you go to sleep or makes you kind of just forget. Once we start drinking coffee, people were working longer shifts and their creativity. They broke free on these creativities because they would sit and think with stuff longer. And that initially coffee. I don't I want to spill it. You really need to read it. It's it's a good one. It's okay. It's caffeine. It makes sense. Longer hours, more creativity or your bright and bushy tailed in the morning. The drama of how coffee became global because it actually was just in the middle east, only middle east. Interesting. And then great. Grazio Salos dutch,
13less the hot the people in the Holland are the the Netherlands that that smuggled out so. Huh. Interesting. Yeah. Okay. Trade routes. Remember we talked about lead talk on devices and stuff like that. It was a coffee trade. It was like one of the biggest ones. So read the book. Okay. Deal. Deal. All right. So we're going on the gosh. Yeah. Well, and this is literally spur of the moment. We always try to come up with topics over the prior 24 hours. It is. It is. It is. If we're sitting and I someone says, well, how are you guys doing this for three years later? I said, listen, people work at an office and have water cooler conversations quite literally every day. Yeah. Yeah. For 20 years, they find something to talk about. And I'm like, exactly. This is Josh and my water. We started kind of as a water cooler, where we're both kind of independent dude working at home. Yeah. And we never have stuff. We always have something to talk about. We, you and I, not just with one another, but we could have a conversation with a piece of linoleum tile for an hour. I've been told I'm a little bit verbose at times. It's actually
18something I'm working on. But yes, I can, I can talk about it. I can talk about it. It's, yeah, it's who it's who I am. Yeah. But here's, here's what I was thinking. I finally came up with an idea. And it was, it was a lot of ideas, Josh. I do. This is all right. All right. Well, this stems from last night. We were streaming a show. What did we watch? Oh, the pit on HBO. And it has commercials because we don't pay for the upgrades where the commercials don't run. And so is that your feedback or mine? I'm hearing feedback. Uh-oh. I can't hear you all of a sudden. There we go. Now I can hear you again. Okay. Better. Better. Okay. Much better. And one of the commercials was for the reboot of, oh my goodness. What is it called? It's scrubs. I think it's actually on again now. So scrubs has been rebooted with the exact same
19cast as it was in, gosh, what was that? Probably early 2000s. Like I remember watching it on DVD, I think. And so I kind of went, is this really something we needed to reboot? And so today's topic, I thought we could maybe go down the path of like reboot overload. Where does it make sense? Where is it just a money grab? Where is there enough nostalgia to be like, okay, I'm on board with this. And there are a few examples where I'm like 100% this was absolutely worth doing. And then there are others that I'm just like, have we just completely lost all creativity and imagination to come up with something original? So that's what I was thinking. Yeah. I love this idea. And I have an opinion about, of course. So can we qualify you? You have an opinion about something? No. Are we focusing on the big screen or TV? Because there's, I have an opinion on both of those. Like, so I can start with one and go the other because I really Yeah. So I think, well, I think there are, I think movies, I think TV shows, heck, I even think
26music and toys could be a little part of this. So, so let's start with movies, though. Okay. So, let's start with TV shows since you brought up. Okay. Why? Why? Why? Why? I remember it being mildly entertaining. Like, I don't think it was a show. I went out of my way to watch on it. It's NBC, I think. So it's NBC back then, NBC today. So there are new episodes of scrubs of the I had to look this up actually. It's the the cast from where did it go here? Sacred Heart Crew. And now the big twist is they're older and they're using AI and medicine. No. It doesn't like no part of me. Like in that situation, I'm like, this didn't need to happen. This is the series that nobody actually asked for. So I think it's coming off this, the, the, the, the co-tales of how awesome some pit is like the pit is it's yeah, but the yeah, I know why I know it's just like you can go and watch
35all of the seasons. You can stream all of the seasons of scrubs and all the story arcs and this like that. It just doesn't need to happen. It's just and to me, the line in the sand is this is just lazy writers. I don't disagree with you. You know, I did not go out of my way to watch this new reboot of scrubs, but I will say that from what I can tell from the commercial that I watched, the only actor that I actually know his name is Zach Braff. And obviously he's doing those T-Mobile commercials too, but Zach Braff and his partner in crime and the lead female character have all aged very gracefully. They actually looked the exact same as they did in the, you know, 25 years ago. For sure. Yeah. Well, I saw one the other day was an advertisement, and maybe, and here's the thing is, so this one actually did get made because things get teased all the time about reboots. Yeah. And I cringe when I saw this one, Knight writer. No. No. No. See, I don't
39have money. He's out of money. He's got like, he's got to be, he's got to be like, that's the only reason that he would come back and do the Knight writer again. No, is he going to be the lead characters? He's just going to be some guy in the background. I just saw like the flash of it in terms of like the, if it had a, you know, it's screenshot of it, whatever. And it's just to me, it's like really, really, I mean, we don't, the thing is, it's like the acting and the original Knight writer was so bad. I mean, it was just okay, right? It was so bad. But it's just like, you don't need to remake it. Like, it's just, it was good for what is because what'll happen? And this is my prediction on those kinds of shows is, they're, who are they wanting to capture? They're capturing you and me to go watch it. Yeah. They're pulling on the nostalgia strings of, hey, remember this? Remember this from watching it in grandma's living room, you know, late at night, right before you were, you had to go to bed. Like, it was that show you were, it was that in air wolf. Airwolf, another one. But so when you watch these shows, though, right? Like today's like, you and I
41would watch these shows and you're like, when we watch as a kid, the tech on that didn't exist. But your car, you have a Knight writer, dude. Like, oh, my, my car talks to me that the Tesla drives itself. That's what it's saying. It's, it's your kit. Yeah. So, it's, what is that show going to do? Yeah. That's going to, because that was the wow factor. It's like, Michael Knight and his car that was, yeah, always shown up the right place. Or what's another one that's, it's like that, like, or air wolf. Like, you couldn't watch air wolf today. Because you're like, there's drones that do more cool things than that are just unmanned. It's like, yeah. So I feel like they're, they're pulling us. Okay. So my prediction with those is like, if they, they, they wanted to capture the jackson or the jacess or corners of the world, they couldn't because they wouldn't stick with it long enough because you're like, that's lame. Yeah. A car that talks, dad, your car
42already does that. Which by the way, thank you for mentioning kit. You remember what it stands for, right? Oh, I don't remember what it stands for. It was okay. KITT Knight industry's 2000, 10,000. Now I can't remember. But it was, like, when you said KITT, I was like, I remember what that stood for. But they agreed. I think a Knight Rider reboot would flop with current generations. Nobody that the only generation that would be drawn in would be ours. And later, those that actually watched the original from the 80s. So it can't be done. So that's the thing about those. And so you watched that one or, okay, let's do a couple other ones like that are crossovers. Okay. Karate Kid. Yeah. And so there's a difference between making sequels and then more sequels, which we, I think we've talked about that one to one point, but it's like enough Karate kids already guys. Yeah. Yeah. Enough Karate kids.
46Uh huh. Is that a spin off? Is that a reboot? I consider it a reboot. Uh huh. But it's a different storyline. Did you like Cobra Kai? I've never watched it nor by. Yeah. It didn't honestly that draw. Like I think of the original Mr. Miyagi and Daniel Sun, um, like the original two movies is where I think you should have drawn the line ever since then. And I think Jackie Chan got introduced. Like I always like Jackie Chan movies. But this isn't a Jackie Chan movie. And so you know, Will Smith's kid I think was was the was the Karate kid for a while. And I'm like, I think I've seen it in like clicking through channels and been like, nope. And just keep going. Um, and I don't, I don't think any of those movies or shows did all that well. I think Cobra Kai did fairly well on Netflix. I just didn't. There was zero zero percent of me wanted to go out on my way to watch that. No. And I think again, it's like what to me, it's lazy writing. It's it's going in saying,
47guys, really. And you can't. So it's so frustrating because it's like, they push it down. And it's not like who we talked about this couple of weeks ago. We still have a choice. We don't have to watch it. Yeah. It's just the fact that they've done it that drives me crazy. So because it's like, you don't need to do this. And then you're selling it off. So anyway, what are some other ones? Have you did? Yeah. So this was a show. And again, I don't know. I think it did indeed error. It wasn't just a teaser. I did not watch it. But the Fresh Prince of Bel Air was rebooted. Um, and like, I don't know. Um, well, well, first off, do we really need more Will Smith in our lives? Um, it's not even Will Smith. I don't think there's an on it. I'm sure he maybe cameos or something like that. But, but I just, I don't know. Like that show was perfect. Um, you know, the Carlton, Will Smith's character. Um, what was his, Jeffrey, the Butler, um, big
48fill. Like I, I, I even watched that show in 30 years. And I still remember the characters. What, like, it was perfect the way it was. I don't even remember how it ended. But you don't, it had a beautiful ending. And you don't need to, you don't need to bring it back. And our kids don't know what the Fresh Prince of Bel Air is these days. And so like, that's another one where it just feels like lazy writing. Hey, that got great ratings in the 90s. Let's see if we can reboot it. For sure. No, say by the bell. Another terrible. Has that come back? Really? Look, yeah, again. Oh, but the, the problem is that, well, honestly, the problem is they, they put them on like a Netflix or they put something in the Amazon Prime and stuff like that or Disney Plus. And so you would never see them because they're not primetime. So they kind of slide them in there. Wondering years got remade. I'd say I don't like one, you remember wonder years, right? So the wonders that we've made. Let's see the other one. Boy meets world has the next generation, like the next gen of boy meets world was boy meets world. The one with Topanga. Yeah. Oh,
50I'd set a crush on Topanga growing up every boy did. She definitely not. So you have, they got married, right? Yeah. What? They got married in the show? Yeah. Oh, yeah. In the original O.G. show, they got married. Well, I don't remember that. I also don't remember what I had for breakfast. You're in high school. You probably stopped watching it. They got married. And then they had kids. And so then the story is about their kids in high school. And then Cory is a high school teacher. So like Mr. Feake, like he, he's kind of living in that. He's the new Mr. Feeney. That's the reboot. It's actually not bad. Like as much as I give, but it's like, it's one of those shows that the kids just binge. You're not going to watch that show week after week. And it's like at something riveting. So the other one that I saw that I was, it was, it was cool. The 90s, that 90s show. Uh-huh. Remember that that 70s show they remade it. Yeah.
53Ashton Crutcher and those guys, like they remade it with their kids. Yeah. Ashton Crutcher, Mielecunis. What was that? Wilmer, Waldorama or whatever. And then they had to stop making it because one guy was a head oh, I went to jail. Yeah, I think he's in prison. He's not in jail. He's in prison. He's in jail. He's definitely in prison. Yeah. He might be in the in South Cullen. What's that? What's that super max down here? He did some bad stuff. He did some bad stuff. So you have some of these TV shows like a reboot. Is there anyone that you have watched that you liked? So show wise. Um, are we talking about TV shows? I guess. Okay. I can't think of any because like the ones are like these little kids, my kids watch them. They're on Disney plus most of the time. They're reboots of these shows from before. Like that that are, you know, it's this next generation version of them. And then they're not bad. It's the ones that were like like scrubs or or a team or or a writer or
58those I'm like, you just know guys. Yeah. See, I there have been a lot of those TV shows from the 70s, 80s and 90s converted into movies now. Um, and I think some of them have caught my attention and entertained and others have absolutely belly flopped. You just mentioned one, the 18 iconic classic show of the the 80s with Mr. T. Um, it turned into a movie with a pretty big cast and it wasn't good. It wasn't good at all. And then they they didn't do a follow up because it was belly flopped. Yeah. So and I think they're again, they're capturing on the nostalgia of people like you and me and it's like, oh, they made a movie of it. That should be so good. And I think the ones that said that's one that they remade and that you go to it and you're like, it's just so over the top. Yeah. Because they had to make it into a feature length. And I'm like, you just didn't need to do that. And it's like, okay, so they reboot all
00of these like the live action film. Like, did you like any of the live action ones and they made from Disney movies? What have you seen? I see all of them remember girls out here. So yeah. So I I haven't seen a single live action movie that was previously a cartoon. I've seen, you know, with the boys growing up, we watched every single Disney and picks our movie that came out. They're all for the most part pretty good. And I've always enjoyed them. I'm not going to go out on my way this this summer to go watch the live action version of Moana because I know the Moana story. And it was fantastic the way it was. So so things like that. Like I the answer is no. And my kids also have zero interest in going to see the live action versions. That nope. I don't even know what that is. I remember puff the magic dragon. I don't remember Pete's dragon. Oh gee, like this is one of these dragon. Josh really? I haven't seen
04Pete's dragon. Like I haven't. I'm looking at this. One of the original Disney ones where they mix cartoon with people on the screen. Oh, kind of like bed knobs and broomsticks. Yeah. I do remember this one. Yep. Okay. He's got the pink hair and stuff. I'm looking at this reboot though. 2016 Pete's dragon. I did not watch that. But if you didn't watch Pete's dragon, you want to look for it, right? Correct. Like Mulan was remade. And it was it was just okay. Cruella was another one, but it's a spin off of 101 Dalmatians. That was we made. I did see that. And I actually think I enjoyed that one only because they changed the stone and Emma. Yeah. It was it was completely different and Emma Stone and Emma Thompson were awesome in it. Yeah. And so but that's a good that's a good example. It's not a remake. It's a reboot and it's a completely different original storyline that shows the why Cruella, if I remember correctly, why Cruella is what she is at kind of the story behind the scenes and why she hates Dalmatians,
09which I thought was actually kind of creative. No, no clue. That one actually I would I could recommend that one. I like that one in this Cinderella one. Again, you I don't know if you'd ever watch them at your house, but we've watched it. You need to be some sort of live reboots of those. Hey boys, come on downstairs. We're going to watch Cinderella. I don't think they're going to respond. Well, and my boys aren't here right now anyway. But yeah, I think so at some point. So Joshy, do you need to teach them to like how to sit still through girl movies? Yeah, because it is a good skill. It is. It is. Well, and I wonder is that is that still like a date night like a boy takes a girl to a movie? For okay, there's two things that you're talking about here now. Date nights don't exist as much as far as I know, dude. They don't because you just you just interact on these things. Well, there's that. No, they just hang out. Yeah. Yeah. Like there's like that was there's not the actual act of hey, would you like to go out with me like an actual date? That was that was my go too. Yeah, we're not going to dinner because that costs too much.
12I'm going to buy you popcorn and let's go watch. Yeah, let's be honest. How much is a movie going to cost you take a chick to move? How much is it going to cost you? Still cheaper than going to Buffalo Wild Wings. Not much. If you do the whole popcorn drink and the whole thing. Yeah. Huh. So another one that keeps seeing that they keep spinning up is the predator. Like there's the new predator that came out. I actually watched it and I was very disappointed because you can't keep making the same stupid show over and over again. Yeah, capturing on people's like, oh, the predator. Yeah, the predator one and two. Great. And then from there, again, the original with Arnold and then the number two with Danny Glover. Those were both in my opinion. Those were perfect movies. And then this most recent one was predator badlands. It came out. It was streaming for free and I watched it and I watched the whole thing thinking it's going to get better. Yeah, it's going to get better. And it was just corny and cheesy and the predator all of a sudden is befriending other
17other creatures and it's like, no, the predator doesn't do that. Yeah, I know. And that's what I'm seeing is like you get those sweaters and I saw another one that they said they were making was bulltron in a live action. Would you go? Or the other one. Thundercats, he man, he man is being turned into a movie. I'm pretty sure this this summer or next summer. I saw the trailer for it. Yeah, and I saw the trailer and went, okay, it doesn't have a big name. But okay, with your setup at home, could you wait? I would. Yeah, I'd wait to stream it. And I'd watch it and I'd probably be disappointed. But if you're watching at home and you're just you're hanging out with the misses and the pups, you're like, whatever. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, they're movies that I'll keep on the list. You know, if they come to Netflix or they start streaming on Disney, etc. I'll watch them. Because again, it's pulling on those heartstrings. If these are the shows I grew up with,
19let's see, let's see if they were able to recreate the magic that was what I remember from the 80s and 90s. One movie, there's one movie that truly did it for me over the last five plus years. Maverick, which is a reboot of Top Gun. That movie I thought was phenomenal. I'm going to give you that one for sure. I just don't know if it calls a reboot. So like in our context today, I feel like it's not a reboot and it is a reboot of the series for people that have watched it in the 80s. But it was a much anticipated sequel. Yeah. Well, I guess it is. Actually, you've got a good point. It is a sequel, but it's a sequel that needed to be made and it's a sequel that was made 35 years after the original or something like that. Like it was close to that. But it was perfect. I think they they did a good job of paying homage to the original movie. They had a few cutback scenes, a few flashbacks. They had the same
19characters. They into I think we've talked about this. Stop me. But Penny, his love interest. Yeah. Yeah. Was actually discussed in the 1989 version, but was never introduced. But that character, Penny, her name was dropped twice in the 1987, 1987, 1988. I don't know what it was. The original movie. And they wrote her into the current one. That's good writing. That's being creative and finding an angle. So there's the scene after the initial scene where they disobey orders and they help. What's his name? Tomcat. They helped the one guy land who's freaking out because he was in missile lock the entire time. Right. They're getting screamed at by the sergeant who's like, you're this close. He talks about like there. Yeah. Cougar. Cougar. He's talking about how like you're this close to, you know, being shipped out of here because you've done this, this, this,
23and you know, a flyby with the colonel's daughter. And goose leans over to Maverick and goes, is he talking about Penny? And then they keep getting yelled at. And you, sir. And so Penny is referenced in the original movie. Go back and watch it. Oh, man. Mm hmm. I love that. I love it. Yeah. They stick together those things because to me, to that, that's where if you are calling it a reboot or a reboot or a sequel that they're stitched together. Okay. Let me throw another one at you though. The movies aren't bad. But you consider it a reboot Jurassic Park. It has become so watered down. So yeah. And I didn't like it with Scarlett Johansson. Okay. Let me give you. Yes. And the right. Why I did like some of it is they did give nods back to the OG series. Yeah. Okay. Some of it though. Keyword. Some of it. In these days, movies are not 90 minutes. They're two, two and a half, sometimes three hours long. That movie drug on in my opinion. And then, you know,
25this, this new hybrid four-legged like T-Rex creature. Yeah. Like there's all this setup. And then it's like, and that's it. You killed it that easy. Like look. So that one just didn't do it for me. And I think Jurassic Park. The first one was perfect. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then three is where it went downhill. And like after they stopped following Michael Crichton's book, like because there were I think two Jurassic Park books. And both the movies were based on, yeah, we're based on those books. Once the the writers kind of had, you know, creative freedom and carte blanche to make their own movie, it got really bad. And Steven Spielberg was also attached to the first one. Every Jurassic Park movie is measured against the first one because they did stuff in that movie that had never been done before. And it captured. Like I still remember seeing that in the big
25stream being like, that is a real dinosaur. 100% and you felt it. That was like when the THX or whatever it was that the new sound systems were coming. They had to be have social theaters for that. Do you remember that? Bro, when the T-Rex roared and you felt it in your seat. Like, that was good. You're sitting there and they're in their car, right? The cars are stopped, the before exposure stop. And you know, the thought you'll the thought you see the water like sheep. You hear the cheek of the water that's like rattling up. Yep. Yep. Like that's the nostalgia that that's awesome. And when you read, I guess part of some of these movies that get redone, it's like the writers think we can do a reboot on these because we can do it better now because we have better tech and we have green screens and CGI. And I'm like, I totally agree with you. So a couple other ones that came to mind when you brought this at this morning. Planet of the Apes.
27I've seen them. Well, I've seen, I think I saw the OG ones with a charcoal and Hessen like that first one. Yeah. Yeah. I remember those ones. Those actually were kind of cheesy in my opinion. I never loved the originals. But it was, yeah, it was a reboot. So I think the first one with James Franco where he befriended the other, they're working on the like that one was, I thought a fairly good storyline. Caesar, Caesar's name, the monkey. And then I think my kids wanted to watch like two and three and I found myself sitting down with them and just like not really watching. Here's a somewhat controversial one. Star Wars. Was that a reboot? I feel like it was because I feel like they stitched it together. And I'll watch them, but I was not excited about them. Yeah. I was excited about revenge of the Sith. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, those first ones that featured, not featured, but the first ones that came out, the acting
28was just so terrible. And Jar Jar Binks is a character. It's like, what are we doing here? I will say the, what about like the return, like the not the what's at the Jedi, what's it called the Force Awakens and so on. Yeah. I thought those were a little more entertaining in my opinion. Cause it's watching that from a film of saying that it's just what it is. And not being like super nerded out and to walk a land of, you know, the following the canon. Yeah. They're good movies. I, I feel like those movies can stand on their own where somebody it doesn't, you don't, you can watch those movies and be entertained and kind of figure things out without having seen any of the prior movies. Like I, I think they were a good, and that was that a reboot. I think that's kind of a reboot because it is, but they kind of read, but they, they had to pick it up. I guess we don't have time to debate this, but like what is considered a reboot? Like when you said scrubs, that's a reboot is a reboot taking back the same actors from before or is it taking the same stories from before? Yeah. I don't, um, again, we don't have enough
32time to debate this, but I, uh, I think we're on to something here where a remake and a reboot, there are some differences there. And it, it sounds like based on what we've talked about, I think we're more inclined to enjoy reboots over remakes or continuations because I think a reboot is an original story that just uses, and it could still suck. It could still be terrible. Like you could say and like, yeah, you probably shouldn't have done that one. Like the, like, classic park, that wasn't a remake. It was a reboot and new actors and new storyline stuff. They picked up the same themes and stuff like that, but like with scrubs, you know, that's a remake. Yeah. That's a remake or there, I don't know, man, like it's, it's, it's tough because, oh, it's, and then store shows like that need to stop on the same kind of theme of this is like, how many years are we watching Survivor? And how many years are we still watching American Idol? I know. And they're, and their reality shows, so you never really know what you're
35going to get, but you know that they're scripted. Yeah. Yeah. I, I don't watch any of those shows for the record, which by the way, I wanted to share a stat here. I had this from earlier. This was in the New York Times. In 2024, the top films were sequels or reboots per box, box office data. Half of 2024's revenue from the top films was sequels or reboots. So this is not slowing down. It's actually getting worse. So I think writers need to step it up. And again, if there's more reboots and original storylines, I think there's maybe you've got something. If you're just being lazy and rebooting stuff and, you know, trying to recreate the magic that, that used to be, I think you're going to belly flop. That's, that's my opinion. Yeah. I agree. Final one, and this might be controversial. Toy Story is coming out with a Toy Story 5 this year. I've loved all of them, but I also feel like the trilogy, the first three, ended perfectly. And then they, they
42resurrected it for no reason. And so will I watch it? Probably. But I still think the way that Toy Story 3 ended and that was 3 and done is where it should have finished. Where did it stop? Remind me, like, is it when he sold his toys to the little girl? Yeah. Where he, like, he grew up. He grew up. Yeah. And the new ones coming out is like with video games in it. I think buzz and buzz and Woody need to battle video game tablets and stuff like that. They're battling this damn device, Brad. You'll probably watch it. We'll probably go watch it. But when you watch it, you watch it for like, oh, the kind of cool toys and stuff like that. But you're right. It does need it. Anyway, this is kind of grumpy old man kind of thing. I know. It's okay, though. Yeah. I think the thing that bothers me when we, if we put a bow on this, it's like the reboots remakes, whatever we're calling it is, listen, the original series, you're never going to stack up to the original series because you liked it for what it was when it was when it was, right? Yeah. And so some of them,
47though, I do feel like, as you said, maybe the box office is going to half of them for reboots or remakes. I'm like, I'm just used to vote with your dollars these days. But then you also look at them in the news. It's like, like Warner Brothers is being sold to Paramah and stuff like that. And the big and initially was going to be bought up by Netflix, like movies as we know it today. I don't know. I think here's here's probably my favorite of all of them that I'll cap it off at this one. Okay. The reboot of Dune. It was good. You didn't like it? No, I'm not saying I didn't like it. I thought it was good. I got a little frustrated at the end when it just set up yet another spin-off or another movie. It follows the books. It's following the books. Yeah, I don't. I've never read the books. But I, like, I just felt like two and done, like they're first off, they're long movies. That's something I just can't, I've gotten impatient now. We're
48from movies longer than two hours. I really start to, it doesn't matter how good it is. I'm like, come on. You could have done this in two. You could have done this in two. And so, yes, I will agree. They were good movies. They were entertaining. I'm still a camel. I have a very large bladder. So that's not the issue. It's more just sitting still. I got more important things to do. I don't know. Fill out the, fill out the crossword puzzle, the Sunday paper. All right. Hey, I the less going to end it with this. Reboots. Reboots are like bad X's. Yeah, we're familiar with them, but like why bring them back? Aren't they an X for a reason? It's true. It's true. I'm going to go with that. That's, that's my, my, my stamp on reboots. Don't start looking things up about your X's because then then your algorithm will be stuck in. Watching 18 reruns, even though they
53were good. They were, if you watch them again with the eye of our, like our, our expectations for action films and stuff like that. Like these are terrible. Yeah. Yeah. So, which by the way, you never asked me about my llama. I was going to ask you about your llama. That's my last time. What's, tell me about your llama. Do you need to pray for this one? Sure. Uh-oh. Glasses are coming off. You didn't see the head. If there's a head, is there a head in there? Is there a head in there? Oh, did you not see it? No, it got covered up. I saw the bottoms of it. There it is. I haven't. Lama's make terrible sounds, by the way. Terrible terrible terrible terrible sounds. All right. Okay. There's llamas and stuff. Are they what's the difference between a llama and an alpaca? Well, llamas are much bigger. Um, I know that. Uh, and so llamas are more, I think llamas are used
00more for, uh, for like transporting stuff. Like, well, maybe alpacas are too. Well, alpacas are the dainty ones, though. And llamas are, llamas are big mean animals. You can't ride one, but you probably almost could. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're in alpaca. If I jump on the back of an alpaca, I think I'm breaking that thing's back. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that'll be, that'll be next episode. We will define the difference between a llama and an alpaca. Sure. Good times, buddy. All right. We love a great weekend, bud. You too.
